Shit, I learn something new every day. Thanks for the info all.
So let's say I do a fresh install of Win7. I then run the redist to freshen things up. From that point on, I allow the games to handle any DX specifics. Would that be the optimal strategy?
So what happens when you install 5 games and each game has a 'specific' dll version but are now overwritten by the last you game install. Are the other games going to suffer? Are there multiple versions of the same dll? Isn't the forced DX installs games perform essentially the redistributable...
Good point. I have many vid cards in house going back to a TI 4200, and have never had to RMA one card.
I have 9500,9700,9800 Pro's, 2/1950's, 2/8800GT/GTS and 2/4870's to name a few. All of these cards were beat to death in their prime with the 4870's going through torture now.
I've never had any problems installing on top of just like they recommend. The only thing I do before an install is delete the ATI Support folder. This is on XP 32/64 and Vista 64. I'm sure everyones mileage may very. For me, it's not been a problem at all. In fact, on this OS, I have been...
Installed ON TOP OF the 9.3's. No reboot needed. Everything seems stable after giving it a run through gamer hell. That's all I'm looking for at this point.
The side panel sure is pain to get back once all the cable is routed in the back. That's my only gripe with the case. They could have easily afforded a bit more space between the tray and panel.
Granted, the PC P&C psu is fit with tons of long cable. This may not be an issue with other...
I can attest to the cooling capabilities of this card. I set it manually to 25% and the load temps never rise more than 10 degrees above idle temps. In my case, 45 idle/55 load max. At 25%, it's barely audible. You can hear the slight hum but the rest of my case is dead silent so it's expected.
BSOD's after installing on top of 9.1. I then tried a clean install with driver sweeper but it's the same thing. I can get in to VGA mode but I get an error that CCC is incompatible with the graphics driver.
I got my Toxic over the weekend. Temps with the stock fan setting were a bit high and expected...well over 60c idle. This card gets very hot, quickly! I kicked it up manually to what I thought was reasonable sound level (30%) and now idle at 44C. Load temps never break 55C. It is cold here in...
No mods. Nothing special. Just really happy to finally have this case. I treated myself to all new parts. Kids come first so I had to wait. After tuition this year, I had enough to splurge a little this time around. Dad deserves it. ;)
