Ebay or Craigslist. The positive of buying second-hand is you can guarantee S-IPS. I'm actually going to sell my S-IPS 2007wfp soon for something larger (not interested in multi-monitor setups).
I was just compiling the complaints others have had. Yes, people have complained about the large bezel. I don't think any of said people actually owned the monitor however.
You'll need an HDMI -> DVI cable to use HDMI, included with the monitor. If you want more than one digital device...
It remains to be seen.
Also wide gamut. They're believed to be the same panel.
That is a fair assessment from my point of view.
Planar:
Pros:
Scaling (1:1)
USB inputs
Cons:
No A-TW polarizer
More Expensive
No component input (does this really matter to anyone)...
:p
I really don't think there is 1:1 mapping on this monitor. As someone posted earlier(Orange Crush?), the graphics card was putting the bars on the sides. I guess I'm not as optimistic as you.
Well, we have a few forum users who have the DS-265W, but no one has put up a comprehensive review. The DS-265W may have an A-TW polarizer which would eliminate white glow from angles. The Planar appears to have more scaling options, as it can do 1:1 pixel mapping, but degrades the image...
I don't know what to tell you guys, on my Dell 4:3 is letterbox and maintains the aspect ratio. I guess it's getting kind of off topic now.
I would take those Engrish responses with a grain of salt :p
The reason I asked about 4:3 so many times is because I already knew (from the manual and others) that it doesn't have 1:1 mapping, and also that the "4:3" mode effectively letterboxes non-4:3 resolutions on my current LCD. Which would be perfect for 1080p content. Again, DoubleSight has some...
Funny. :p Now I'm curious, what does 4:3 look like with PS3 1080p? Squashed with black bars on all 4 sides? That's pretty much a dealbreaker. I need a monitor that can display native HD resolutions. I was pretty much sold on the monitor too.
Wait, so the PS3 will stretch no matter what you choose, Auto, 16:10, and 4:3? That's disappointing. I use the 4:3 option on my Dell 2007WFP and it maintains the 16:9 ratio with bars on top and bottom.
I think Newegg's LCD policies are infamous for a reason. If it bothers you a lot, try it anyways though.
No, but then again there technically isn't a review yet. And also, the market who would buy TN panel vs. IPS is different.
Okay, X-ray Doc, I understand you. Yeah, a lower resolution like 1680 x 1050 will have black bars all around. kessomatt, I'm looking forward to see if when you hook up a PS3 if you can maintain aspect ratio when outputting 1080p. From what you have said so far, it sounds like it should be able...
It is recommended to leave UDPixel going for a few hours after you have selected the stuck pixels. No guarantee it will help, but it's worth a shot if it has a chance at fixing it.
I am not familiar with catalyst, as I have an Nvidia card. I would assume that setting your resolution to...
You need to clone your output from your graphics card to a CRT in addition to the DS-265W and run a timer in order to test input lag. Or you could even tell us if there is notable difference between it and CRT in general use qualitatively. You need a calibration tool to test the colors of the...
Another confirmation of a polarizer. Sounds like at least this first batch has one.
How is it so far, kessomatt? Sorry to hear about the stuck pixel, you could try exercising it. Few questions, how is it in displaying sRGB colors? How is the text? Input lag? If you set your PC to ouput...
So there is no "aspect" option to maintain the aspect ratio? That is too bad, the monitor should display 16:9 content without stretching. What if you changed it to 4:3 when you were ouputting 16:9 content, would it letterbox?
BTW sent this email to DoubleSight:
So with a grain of salt...
Whoa, you want to do photography/editing on it too? I think everyone else misunderstood you. You are severely limited in your options for a 30" TFT LCD. Which is more important, gaming and low input lag, or accurate colors for photo editing?
Newegg now has the MIR that provantage was advertising:
http://images10.newegg.com/UploadFilesForNewegg/rebate/SH/DoubleSight3MIRsSep22Dec3108lt12.pdf
It seems the promo code doesn't work anymore now that there is a mail in rebate?
Like people were saying earlier, DoubleSight is compltetely illogical in its business practices. Sure, their panels are popular, but so many more enthusiasts would snap them up if they were guaranteed a polarizer. And if the DS-265W does have one in all of them, why wouldn't they advertise it?
That is the advantage of using a digital signal, you can use dongles and switches without degrading the PQ. It's still really weird how this monitor has "USB" and "HDMI" printed on the back with no actual inputs.
And evil HP 24"? Evil because it is a wide gamut? lol. That was actually they...
It really all depends on what you are looking for. For example, the poster above obviously couldn't stand input lag. Some people don't notice that their wired mouse moves like it is connected wirelessly. Some people can't stand TN's 6-bit colors. Some don't notice.
I've been looking for a...
Yeah, those pictures make the monitor look a lot better. I'm still really disappointed with the lack of a true HDMI port. I think most people would agree that forgoing the component input for HDMI would have been preferable.
Possibly. I was just pointing it out. $730 with free shipping is definitely the better deal, if you can find that. Waiting would probably be the smart option.
I'm waiting until I hear about the input lag and whether the component input accepts 1080p. Both could be potential dealbreakers.
Thanks for the response Orange Crush. The reason I ask is because of the lack of HDMI, I would run my Xbox 360 over component, PC over VGA, and PS3 over DVI(using HDMI->VGA cable). It would be awesome if it accepted 1080P over component for the 360.
Also, I know everyone here hates Newegg's...
I agree with Mav. I am seriously disappointed in the lack of HDMI in the 265W. I'm really not liking my options for a 26" panel. I'm looking to upgrade from my 2007WFP because I want 1080P capability to watch HD content, so obviously I want to stay on an IPS (I've been spoiled by my 2007WFP :))...
