So I have an i5-6600k at 4.7, with the midrange ga-z170xp-sli board. Unfrontunately the board has quite a bit of vdroop, it goes from 1.475 idle to 1.415 under load. So to get a decent OC the chip needs to idle at 1.475 to hit 1.41 at load. Will a high idle vcore do damage the way a high...
I know for a fact that the 1.4v limit is not a myth from my personal experiences. I used to run my e3110 at 1.45v at 4.4ghz, but I am no longer able to maintain that overclock. I was forced to back it down to 1.4v at 4.2 So no, Degradation is not a myth.
Hi, im running the latest cat 8.7 drivers on an unoverclocked 4850 with the fan at 100% and I am getting crash in world in conflict. The screen turns black and the pc doesnt reboot. Is this a known driver problem or is the card dead?
The 3870 is the slowest, a very bad option, it gets its ass kicked by the competing nvidia cards. The 4850 is much faster and is pretty much the bang for the buck deal right now, and the 4870 even faster for $100 bucks more and is in between the nvidia gtx 260 and gtx280, but closer to the 260.
Thanks again for the reply, if it were me I would always go for the most reliable option but its for my friend, who isnt really a "pc enthusiast", he just wants to be able to play crysis an cod without spending too much. That silverstone is around the right price point though. What do you...
Alright thanks for the help, we'll try the new one and see how it goes and if its unstable i guess he's gonna have to look for a new psu, personally I think it will work out ok, the psu has barely been used also. Are the antec basiq models any good? They are only 35 bucks.
My friend has a pc that he is looking to upgrade. he cant afford to spend much but he wants a 4850. The psu is barely adequate for whats in the pc now so Its going to need to be upgraded as well. I have an enermax 431 watt psu that I could give him, it has 20 amps on the 12v rail, will this psu...
Ok, so I need corrosion protection with my loop? And antifreeze will do the job? Will it also protect against biological growth or do I need pt nuke also?
Hi, Im going to be refilling my w/c loop soon. I have been using swiftech hydrx, but I have read too much about it clogging up the loop after a while so im not going to use it again. The parts included in my loop are in my sig, do I need any corrosion protection? (afaik its all copper but Im...
FS does not take advantage of four cores all the time, none of the physics calculations or object drawing calculations take advantage of quad cores. The only thing that will use four cores with the new service pack 2 is texture loading.
A quad will only help fsx with faster texture loading, it will give a few extra fps, but fsx is in no way a quad core optomized app. FSX would be alot better if the developers would take advantage of modern technology.
Dont believe those benches on toms hardware, fsx can display such a variety of frame rates depending on the situation, but it is always cpu limited. Dont expect to get frames like you would in any other game, even crysis, in fsx. I get fps in the 40's at high altitude, but in the most...
For fs, the CPU mhz is most important. As for the gpu, all you need is something decent. For example upgrading from an 8800gt to a 9800gx2 would show zero performance increase, the dev's have made fs soooo cpu dependant. A quad core cpu is also not necssary, but it will show a slight very...
if it was 1.4 vs 1.45 I would say keep 1.4 and go with a lower core speed, but since 1.38 is still a very safe voltage I would say keep the higher speed, either way though longevity or performance arent going to change, but we are overclockers here so go with the best you can get.
The 3870 has 320 sp's, and the 8800gt has only 112, so the fact that ati cards have a huge number of sp's should cancel out the fact that nvidias sp's run at almost twice the speed. Nvidias sp's are just more that much more efficient. Either way the 4000 series should have a great deal of...
Hey my friend is reinstalling xp home and has a home cd key, but he doesnt have an xp home disk, he has an xp pro disk. Will xp home still activate if windows is installed on the pro disk?
How so? It takes an hour or less to replace the caps and then you just run a stress test overnight. Why not just replace the caps. If you destroy the board somehow it was going to destroy itself anyway.
I dissagree. Alot of times these old boards cost alot of money and can be hard to find, especially if its a prebuilt media pc. Replacing the board can many times entail replacing the case if if you cant find the exact same board. A few capacitors cost a few bucks and its not really all that...
