On Craigslist two computers - Lenovo Thinkstation workstation PCs with Intel Xeon E3-1230 processor, 150 GB raptor drive, 16 GB DDR3 ECC RAM, and an Nvidia Quadro 600 graphics card. Both for $400.
Used computer I might buy locally. Older Xeon chip and chipset, but it is 6-core and can take two CPUs (although only one is installed). Also has NVidia Quadro 4000 card in it. All for $450. Good deal? Oh, and it has 20 GB RAM.
Is this a pretty powerful setup? I will be using it for CAD and...
Well I bought it anyway. Been checking it out this morning. Everything seems fine. Not even a blemish or nick on it. Has 10.11 El Capitan. Granted I could never afford a Mac, until now. Love the screen.
Found one at the pawn shop yesterday. It was a late 2013 Macbook Pro, 13-inch screen, 2560 x 1600 display, Iris graphics, Intel Core i5 4th gen processor, 128 GB SSD.
All for $350.
I asked the guy if it was stolen. He said no they run the serial number through a database, and the local police...
Thank you for all the responses.
I had a professional computer repair guy tell me the thermal paste needs to be refreshed.
I did all I could do otherwise.
Yeah I think the temps are a little on the warm side as well. With the specs the M4600 has, such as the quad-core 2860QM and the 16 GB of RAM, I expect the performance to be screaming, not the fan.
The lag is still there, but not as severe as before I changed the C-states. Still, too sluggish...
I just bought a Dell M4600 from a pawn shop. No blemishes on the outside that I could see.
Intel Core i7-2860QM
320 GB Toshiba HD
16 GB DDR3 Kingston RAM
Nvidia Quadro 1000M graphics card with 2 GB

I could definitely tell the 1440p 27" monitor that I just bought was better. Not in that I was looking for pixelation, but the image quality was much smoother over all. 1080p on a 32" was okay, not bad, can live with it, etc. But 1440p on a 27" - very sharp.
I wouldn't mind 1440p on a 32" but...
I'm using a 32" TV as a PC monitor. Is 1920 x 1080 too low a resolution for a monitor for you? I find it is barely acceptable, the pixel density is quite low. I have to sit further to get a decent image, otherwise sitting close gets me a bleh picture.
But anyone here have this setup?
Got it last night for $65 out the door.
So far it looks pretty good. 1920 X 1200 resolution. How does it compare to the HP ZR2440w or Dell 1920 x 1200 monitors?
So far this is a pretty awesome monitor. It's not slim like the new LED monitors, but I kinda like the older LCD panels. No PWM to worry about and good color reproduction.
I just bought this monitor used off Craigslist and so far it looks good, but would like to know how many hours on the backlight lamp. Is there a way to see this?
Thanks. The X-540 sub is only rated at 25W, while the Z-2300 sub is at 120W. That's a big difference. How will this affect the sound, if at all? Sorry I am an audio noob.
I found a set of Z-2300 satellites at a pawn shop for $15 total. It did not come with the subwoofer or the controller. I had the X-540 5.1 system at home, so I connected the Z-2300 to the X-540 sub to make a 2.1 system for my laptop. So far it sounds pretty good. I want to ask if this is okay -...
I am virtually laptop exclusive. I have (4) laptops - HP Elitebook 8560p, Dell Precision M6500, an old Dell E6500, and a Dell Latitude E6520.
What do they all share in common? Premium displays (which is a priority with me)
All have the highest-level displays - 1080p or 1600 x 900 for the...
have two Elitebook 8560p laptops. One has SSD and the other has HDD. I would like to swap the hard drives between the two 8560p laptops. Is all I need to do is install the hard drives and it's good to go once I press the power button? Or do I have to do any configuring, or re-install Windows...

Intel Core 2 Duo @ 1.66 GHz, Windows 7 Pro, 120 GB HD, Nvidia Geforce 8400M graphics card, webcam, fingerprint reader, slot-loading DVD drive, screen is gorgeous, battery is in excellent condition and holds a charge for a long time. Loaded with latest drivers...
I have a Galaxy Player 4.0 (4" screen) that works great. Has wifi so I just loaded Skype and make phone calls through that (wherever I have wifi). The 4.0 is small enough so that it fits in my pocket. Sure it's just a Galaxy S phone without the phone - but it works for me.
Not talking about the Dreamcolor display from HP or the older IBM IPS screens.
I'm talking about screens that are relatively available or accessible to general public, whether it's in a business-class or consumer-class laptops.
Also, on a side note, I have read 15.4" screens are generally...
What do you think of this laptop?
Thinking about buying one being sold on CL. What's a good price for a used one, excellent condition?
Specs:
2GHz Intel Core i7-2630QM Quad-Core
8GB (2x4GB) RAM
640GB 7200rpm Hard Drive
Blu-ray ROM with CD/DVD Burning
nVIDIA GeForce...
I know, this is so superficial and the real beauty lies under the hood etc etc.
But let's be shallow for a little bit.
Which notebook computer design sets your heart racing in terms of form factor and exterior skin?
I nominate my HP Elitebook 8560p. I like the austere...
