    Small SFF Gaming Cases???

Thanks WiSK, I'll have to measure mine up but I seem to remember it being about 12". Guess I'll have to look into getting a new card, which isn't the worst thing in the world. I'm sure a new one would be faster.

    Small SFF Gaming Cases???

Wow, it fits with like a millimeter to spare! If a 450w will run that, I've seriously been buying way more wattage than I need for years it seems! Just for reference, how long is that card? I currently have a 5870 I plan on re-using and have my fingers crossed that it's shorter and would fit...

    Small SFF Gaming Cases???

I took a look at the TJ08-E and it looks cool but is still almost as big as a ATX Mid size. While the Antec is a bit smaller, it would need some modding and painting to look good! It still seems like small + gaming just doesn't happen and I should just transfer my current rig into a mid tower...

    Small SFF Gaming Cases???

HaX, I had intended to put mITX but put uATX instead >.< The only one I saw that looked like I could shove a real graphics card in it was the BitFenix Prodigy which is huge with those handles. Jamai, I'll check those out. Thanks for the suggestions!

    Small SFF Gaming Cases???

So I've been using Full Tower ATX cases for about a decade now and I think it's time to downsize since I don't run custom water loops or more than one graphics card or anything crazy these days. Now I took a look at cases on newegg in the uATX and mATX flavors and everything I saw that looked...

POST Stalls on Detecting AHCI Drive

Ok, so I have a P5E that has been running in AHCI mode since I got the thing. I put a 1tb drive (WD Black) in yesterday that had Win7 on it from another computer and was running some testing with it last night. Today I decided to reinstall Win7 and it got through the part before the first...

AMD Phenom II X6 1055T or Phenom II X4 945?

Well if you do a lot of video editing or hardcore photoshop... Think of it this way 3Ghz x 4 = 12Ghz / 2.8Ghz x 6 = 16.8Ghz. So in things that scale well, you have about 4.8Ghz more of CPU power as well as any other refinements they added. And Turbo Boost will boost the things that use 3 or...

    Help Picking a Processor

Ah, well I guess no unlocking then since it'll be one of the new boards with the SB850. But I think an overclocked tri core should be fine for what he's doing. Thanks for the info on that.

Hrmmm... I wasn't even thinking of unlocking potential. A x3 that might be a x4... Added bonus!

    Help Picking a Processor

Thanks for the replies guys. That's exactly what I thought myself :D As for the x6, well the budget keeps it at around $100 so their a bit out of the price range. And for the maybe 20 minutes of fraps video he does anything with I think it would be a bit overkill as well. And...

    Help Picking a Processor

Hey all, I'm helping a friend who wants to know nothing about hardware build a computer for playing MMO's and single player RPG's. Now I'm a bit out of the loop myself since I'm still happy with my system and haven't been keeping an eye on what's going on. But I figure for a best bang for...

    5850 fit in SG01

I think it would hit the hard drive cage in a standard SG01. Though the length seems to be 9.5" so that's a bit shorter than a mATX mobo. So the main problem would be the power connectors might hit the hard drive cage. If the connectors pointed up like a GTX260 it should be no problem but...

    SFF Gaming HTPC

Correct as far as I know. Since the AM2/AM2+ cpu's only have a DDR2 controller and AM3 boards only have DDR3 slots. And you caught my post right before I looked at the Zotac site and saw they say the board supports AM3 cpu's. But if he wants a dedicated video card that's still an issue as...

    SFF Gaming HTPC

Good point, I looked at the cpu and saw it was an AM3 and not the mobo which an AM2+. Zotac's website at least says it'll support an AM3.

    SFF Gaming HTPC

Re-reading what I said before... I was incorrect about why the 5770 wouldn't fit but was correct that it won't fit. Won't fit due to the card taking up the slot next to it which the case doesn't have. Any single slot cooler cards will still have issues due to the fact that the fan will be...

    Will this work for me???

How much CPU power does a Vent server need? I had one of the single core Atom chips in a netbook and it would lag on websites with flash... So if the Vent server needs any real cpu power it could cause issues.

    SFF Gaming HTPC

That would explain the high price. Taking a better look at the overhead view of the case... I'm not sure that the graphics card will fit. I have a 5770 sitting next to me for a computer I'm putting together for a friend and it goes almost all the way to the back of the mATX mobo. Which makes...

    80mm Fan Suggestions?

So I ask this here as I'm sure us SFF people have more experience with 80mm fans than most people out there. I dug through my fan box and pulled out some vintage TT-8025a's in an attempt to get my cpu to run under 75c with the case top on. And sure enough they did it, it's only about 1c hotter...

    SFF Gaming HTPC

I have not a clue about ITX so I can't really say anything about if it's a good idea or not. But after having to resort to some pretty fast and loud fans in my SG01 to get it all cooled off I'd think it may get kinda toasty in that case. Though my cpu is at 85w tdp and the one yer looking at...

What is holding back my Q9400?

I wouldn't be surprised if the board is maxing out at 463fsb. That's pretty fast. I'm not sure what the average fsb is for P45 boards though. It is possible you need to bump up the termination voltage. I've heard that quad cores tend to need a bump there at high fsb speeds.

    SG01F Driving me nuts...

Cool, SFFClub V2, I'll be there :D Yeah, I know what your saying about them poping. I used to muck around with the fans in psu's all the time till I had one pop on me. Though it was a cheapo *shrug* I think I'll just get my current fans to 100% (Which the inflated specs say is 33cfm) and see...

    Q9300 - Lowering Multi & Upping FSB?

My memory is 1066 so it is running at 1:1 at 417fsb. I just got home and did a rather unscientific test, which was run 3dMark06 at 333 and 416. My scores went up very slightly from 12825 to 12987. I got a higher score with 340fsb and 2.55GHz on the CPU. So I guess it does increase overall...

    Q9300 - Lowering Multi & Upping FSB?

I know it'll go at least as low as 1.1v, perhaps lower. My old MoBo wouldn't go under 1.1v, but the new one does so I'll have to do a bit more experimenting with volts and P95. But that doesn't help at all with the question of getting more overall system performance by lowering the multi and...

    Q9300 - Lowering Multi & Upping FSB?

Hey all, In an effort to get temps under control in my SFF case I'm looking bringing my cpu back to stock speeds and undervolting it. It's currently getting up to 75c which afaik is a tad on the high side. So I'm wondering... Will lowering my multi down to 6 and upping my fsb to 416...

    SG01F Driving me nuts...

Steve, you are the man in the SFF forums... You always have something useful for like every question. As for the PSU, not flipping the entire unit. Opening it up and flipping the fan so it's bringing in air to the 8700 instead of fighting with it for the airflow in that area of the case. I...

Dell Studio Hybrid 140G What OS?

Well it only has 3gb of ram, so no point to go 64bit unless you plan to upgrade to 4gb. And Win7 is pretty nice. So I'd suggest going with that, plus XP will have it's support pulled sooner or later. Also just so you know, your link send you to some here.com or something website.

    Thermally Controlled Fans

Hey all, I got some fans and unfortunately the product literature didn't say they were thermally controlled. So I'm trying to get them to run at full speed as the thermal control doesn't run them fast enough for my liking. Now if I'm understanding on how they work properly, it's a...

Will the EVGA 896 GeForce GTX 260 video card fit APEVIA X-QPACK2?

As for a PSU, one thing you may want to consider is the Silverstone Strider series. Fully modular and they sell short cable kits for SFF cases.

    SG01F Driving me nuts...

Yes I did fail ;) Was thinking the HDD cage could be removed from the case to remove the fan easier as the manual almost made it seem like you could. But nope, just needed a long screwdriver. But now I'm trying to get my temps under control. I'm in the process of cranking up a q9300 and...

    OC Stability Testing?

It's a Gigabyte EG45M-UD2H. matx G45 chipset. Yeah, the gflops are way lower than stock. And I tried bumping all the different voltages available to me with no effect. But it still passed 1hr 45min of P95 small FFT's. So I'm not sure of what would be unstable especially since it runs all...

    OC Stability Testing?

Cool. Thanks Caniba, gives me a few other programs to play with. Doesn't explain what could cause such drastic slowdowns. It's almost like something is being throttled, but both coretemp and cpu-z read everything operating at the right speed. But the temps don't get as high as when it runs...

    OC Stability Testing?

So I'm doing some OCing of a Q9300 in a Gigabyte G45 matx board. And the board seems to be not having issues (besides the lack of Northbridge voltage options)... But I've been using IntelBurnTest v2.3 as I've heard it's probably the best for testing. And it's acting strangely... Sometimes...

    Will this cause cooling issues?

The case with the 3870 in it is a SG01. I'm thinking of flipping the exhaust on the top to be an intake as that would feed cool air right into the card. Though I'll not be gaming much on it, so I probably shouldn't be too worried about the heat as it idled at a decent enough temp.

    Will this cause cooling issues?

Thanks Steve. Wanted to make sure I didn't kill off my trusty 3870. I bought it when it first came out and don't feel like I've gotten my $200 out of it yet ;) Gets kind toasty as is in a normal case so I may have to experiment with getting it more fresh air. At least the 5770 is a cooler...

    Will this cause cooling issues?

Hey guys, I was just putting graphics cards into the systems I'm building and well noticed that the coolers look rather restricted by the sound card. Normally in a full size system I wouldn't worry too much about it as there is a lot more airflow moving around. But I'm not sure if it may...

NZXT Rogue SFF Case AM3 Build

I say potential problem as it always depends on what keeps happening with technology and how long you keep your computers for. I'm remembering something talking about I think it was 4870's that there was only a 2% drop or so in FPS going from dual x16 to x8. Though I'd still think you'd be...

NZXT Rogue SFF Case AM3 Build

The DFI one is the only AM3 one I've ever seen. Though the biggest potential issue with it is the PCIe x16 slots are only electrical x8. Might it make more sense to get a single x16 board and just upgrade to a newer card when the card you get is starting to get too slow for newer games?
