During my last 3.6 test, the display said "no signal" so I couldn't get back into windows. 3.2 was very easy, so I might just live with that.
Hey, my 3.2 is @1.37 as well. What were your other voltages (fsb/pll/sb)? you used for 3.6? I can try 1.41, but I'm pretty sure I wasn't getting into...
Personally, I had this same decision to make 2 weeks ago. I went for the q6600 because as others said, the GPU is the limiting factor, not the cpu once you OC.
In my case, my q6600 is OC'd to 3.2 stable, with a 8800GT (currently not OC'd) and I can play Crysis at 1280x1024 resolution on VERY...
It probably does need to be reseated, the lower two cores are about 62, the other two are 71 @3.5.
The other prob is my cpu with a high VID (1.325) isn't stable at 3.6 *sigh*.
JC: Thanks for the suggestion, I tried using: vcore 1.5, nb 1.4, pll 1.4, sb auto, fsb 1.4
instead now and it's been stable for 2 hrs so far! another 2 go to and it's looking good at 3.5 Ghz! :) Temps under load are 68 and below
Update: It failed after 2 hrs...lol why is this so hard? It...
JC: I know Intel says the max is 1.5, this is just to see if I can hit 3.6/3.5 stable just for fun at this point. Unfortunately with a high vid (1.325) it requires at least 1.5 vcore to boot into Windows with my chip.
However, I will try your suggestion of lowering the fsb/nb and try again...
Ocel: Actually I am currently running 24/7 @ 3.2 and it is 100% stable (14 hrs prime95) with most settings on auto. 3.2 was very easy to reach and my temps are 55 C and below under load. This is why I'm going for a higher OC.
I know staring at the screen is a waste of time lol. I just don't...
Logan: Problem is I run these stability tests at night time while I sleep (I do want to have SOME fun with the computer when i get home from work...lol). I"ll look into the fans you're recommending, the Scythe S-flex is 65 cfm, which I thought was pretty good given that it's practically...
TKD: Given that you're playing at 1080p (1920x1200) that is awesome. 25fps should be fairly playable and things must be very crisp at that resolution. Good job, now go enjoy the game! I've spent more time tweaking than playing since I got my computer 2 weeks ago..lol
I still dont' have a sli...
Hey,
Ok, I'll have to look into reseating. I might just take it into the shop and let them do it so I don't void the warranty.
As for 3.6: One thread failed after 1 hr, but the other 3 stayed stable for 8 hrs +. The only things I changed from above was change the NB voltage to 1.4 (from...
Hey,
Very true points you mentioned. My cpu is very comfortable at 3.2, temps <55 C and most settings are on auto (even vcore), I simply changed the fsb to 355x9=3.2. There was no way to get to 3.6 without cranking up the settings. You're right, I don't care about 3.6 vs. 3.5, this is just for...
Hey Ocell,
Thanks man, it's been taking a while. Dumb question for you, is it safe to keep the vcore/temps this high for 8 hrs? I'm still new to all of this.
I'll run prime tonight while I sleep (8 hrs +) and post screenshots tomorrow. I did try to lower the vcore to 1.5 and it wasn't prime...
Hi everyone,
I've finally overclocked my q6600 (g0) to 3.6, stable for 25 mins so far (will keep it running after I post here) but I need some help with fine tuning and have enclosed screen shots.
My specs:
q6600 (g0)
p5k premium
antec 900
TRUE hs with scythe sflex
600W OCZ...
Umm, you guys do realize you can turn your TRUE verticle instead of horizontal right? I put my scythe sflex on that way without require any power tools... lol...crazy!
Kr1z and Others:
I've OC'd my q6600 to 3.2 (stable) and the game runs flawlessly 1280x1024 @31fps average (up to 40s), on VERY high details using the 8800gt (still at stock).
The gamer runs very well with this video card at stock, OCing it will only help improve the fps.
Hey Copy, I am actually stable for 20+ minutes (have to test longer) at 3.5. The only issue is that I'm running at peak voltage as you said. I haven't tweaked vcore at all yet though. I might be able to get this down to 1.4 (hopefully). I've seen reports of lower vid's requiring less peak...
Hey,
This is 3.6, it's not stable *yet* but before yesterday I couldn't even get to the loading screen of windows, in fact, it wouldn't POST at 3.6 at all. So there is some progress. I just wanted some suggestions from you OC experts, I'm still fairly new at this.
I did try 3.5 late last...
Good news. I got into windows at 3.6 (400x9) using the settings by doing the following (someone suggested this to me).
I set my bios vcore at 1.5, win idle/load vcore is 1.47. The NB is 1.55 and the PLL is 1.6, I also set the fsb voltage to 1.4 with LLC enabled. The only cpu settings enabled...
Guys,
This lapping thing is definately not in my league, I'm not going anywhere near my computer with a machine sander...LOL..I'll destroy my computer!
I think I figured out what has been holding me back from going over 3.2. My baseline vcore (vid) is high, this is reported by coretemp as...
I saw a major performance increase in Crysis from 2.4 to 3.2. It went from unplayable under very high (low 20s fps) to very playable avg 31 fps! Everything else stayed constant.
Maybe you're not playing crysis or your vid card is much better than my 8800gt.
I don't really, I was just curious. I'd like to minimize the vcore going to the chip for my OC so I wanted to know which vcore was more relevant.
From your specs, you don't OC for daily use at all? how did you hit 9x400? Vcore of 1.36 (bios) and any other voltage changes?
I simply meant what voltage is actually going to the CPU? Is it the bios voltage or the voltage displayed in windows (by cpu-z). Just wanted clarification (with reference to my previous post), that's all.
I posted both vcores in my earlier post.
Hey,
Yeah I have c1e disabled currently as well. My memory is running 1:1 with 5-5-5-15 timings, basically underclocked for now.
I'm happy with 3.2, I'm just tweaking at this point to see what my max OC is so I can post on the database here :P Most likely given that the temps/voltages are...
Bandit: Ah I didn't know g15 has it on the keyboard. But did you know when you benchmark Fraps turns OFF that little counter? I just learned this myself two days ago. You can even give it a timer to stop benchmarking after 5 mins (for example). :)
Veldi: I'm already amazed with my setup so...
Copy: I didn't try 8x425 yet, but will give that a shot. This is time consuming eh? What's the deal with c1e some say enable, some say disable...?
Here are my screenshots as promised:
3.2 after 10 hrs prime95
3.3 only 20 mins of testing (was experimenting with 3.4 more so last...
Update: I was able to get into windows with 450x8, but I only saw two cores!! Did I reach my motherboard limit? Just for testing sake I used vcore of 1.5 and nb volt of 1.55. I might have to try lower, again shooting for the stars here :)
1080p is all about PC gaming man, you can't notice it in a 360/ps3 game unless they specially coded at the res (as you said, the usually upscale).
I'm starting to realize I probably should have bought a 1600Mhz board as well, but i'll keep tweaking this week and see what happens.
Bandit: quad...
Caw: ha, being in a basement would definately bias your temps downwards! Here's a fun experiement for ya. Take a room fan, those small desk ones, open your case and have it blow right on it on max, watch your temps go down like crazy! Pretty funny what a $15 fan can do for cooling. It's not...
Yeah thats what I'm thinking (but was hoping for 3.6 lol, just a bit jealous). Sounds good, let me try upping the fsb/nb tonight and see if that helps. Otherwise I'll post bios pics (gonna need my digi cam for that one!).
Copy: Sounds like your system @3.4 is rock solid, good to hear. I'll keep playing with mine. Given that I'm around 55C (max) @3.2, hopefully I can go to 3.4 without the need of getting into lapping. That's a bit beyond me to do (time constraints as well).
Thats great that you're under 60 as...
Copy: How do I insert images into this forum? Do I have to upload it to imageshack first or can I post directly into this message (which is the ideal). Thanks!
Cycle: All the articles I've read show the TRUE to be the best, hence I bought it, it was $50 and all others cost the same (here in...
Hey thanks for the link:
I see what you're saying, that's almost DOUBLE! Pretty sweet man. Oh well, I'm stuck with my p35 board for now. I'll upgrade to one of those gx2 boards next year (sli on a single board from what I've read) so I can keep my mb. Overall, I think my board is pretty stable...
I ran the latest prime95 and all four cores were stressed (100%), I can post a screenshot I saved when I get home from work. The temps were b/w 49-55 for the 4 cores. :) I haven't tried to determine the max fsb of my chip yet, that's my next step. I'm running 355x9 at 1:1 so my memory should be...
