The devil is always in the detail.
From personal experience even LCDs suffer from burn-in:
1) Industrial control systems, of which I've seen many, often display a given graphic for hours at a time. On some systems the ghosts of these screens are clearly visible.
2) About 5 months ago I...
47 here. Quite recently Overlord II caused problems with my mouse hand - lots of unusual 2 buttons + sweep action I guess - but that's about it to date, an elbow/forearm support helps greatly.
I gave up on Penumbra: Overture when it descended into endless pupycide, I'll try it again one day. Penumbra: Black Plague certainly hits the mark and keeps the suspense running for a good length of time, a fine game and good horror/suspense.
Dead Space? A collection of notionally frightening...
Try Vaseline. For the scratches, not the sex.
Try to work a tiny amount into each scratch then carefully wipe away any excess. I've heard some say it helps, it's easily removed anyway.
Strange. I spent 30 seconds talking to an Indian gentleman. He asked me the model number, checked the 'system', then gave me the correct number to call.
Text: ClearType can be tuned to get most text looking fine, ymmv, but I failed to tune it to the point where all text looked good. Finally I...
Have you tried looking at portable LCD TV's ? I picked up the 8" version of this (warning UK sticker shock) http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=96876 a couple of years ago, it was a LOT cheaper at the time! VGA and composite, 800x600 iirc, separate power brick, it made for an ideal...
Yes, for the HP. On the CRT FF3 and no colour management but I still see 'bands'.
I downloaded the Lagom image and in a graphics editor used the colour picker to determine the width of the 'stripes' of equal shade. From memory the majority of the stripes are of equal width but every 8th or...
@kay
Interesting comment re: the Lagom gradient test. Look closely, especially near the dark end and you may well see banding. I see it on my HP and on my old CRT. This is not an indication that anything is wrong with the monitor, far from it the HP performance is excellent in this respect...
One thing that has worked for me in the past:
Head over to the black tests here http://www.drycreekphoto.com/Learn/Calibration/monitor_black.htm
or here http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/black.php
Open your graphics card control panel and tweak your gamma settings up a little and things should...
I've owned both of them, I no longer own the Dell. I couldn't live with the VA shift, the large colour variation on the leftmost 2" of the screen and I couldn't reach a happy balance with the sharpness control. Oh, and lag, at first I didn't notice, to excited with the new toy perhaps, but after...
I received a request for my 5800k settings:
RGB all = 255, <chuckle> a fortuitous reset
Eye-One gives the following calibration profile:
http://www.i2net.me.uk/files/MonitorCalib-14-10-2008/ecat_58k_23-11-2008_2.icc
As stated somewhere previous this results in a significant reduction in...
This is my third LCD monitor, at the time it was three monitors in three months.
The first was a budget VA, it came highly recommended -by some- instant dislike by me, I spent the weekend we had together avoiding the pc completely, seriously, it was unusable.
The second a dell 2408 came...
It may sound alarming but 20% variation in brightness would appear to be average to good for current LCD's, see Panel Uniformity :

You're welcome, glad I could help.
CRT's are very sensitive to magnetic fields, even variations in the Earths magnetic field can cause them problems. Manual degaussing is not usually necessary as most CRT's perform an automatic degauss at power on but in the good old days before whatever...
With a bit of luck manually degaussing the screen will fix the problem. See page 15 in the operating instructions, especially the note about allowing 20 minutes before trying again ...

Beyond the recommended resolution of your monitor you may find that small text etc starts to blur but there is certainly nothing stopping you driving your monitor up to the maximum supported resolution.
The question is why would you want to ? One possible answer is when playing games, the...
It appears the green/pink issue is a defect ( http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=12883472&postcount=670 ) call support.
I'd definitely recommend sitting 30"+ away from the screen, text etc is large enough for this to be comfortable and sitting further back reduces the viewing...
Colour:
I find over saturation to be occasionally annoying, perhaps that should be very occasionally. It depends on the game and I guess it's a very personal thing, some may notice it more than others. Fallout 3 is a strange one, in fully calibrated custom mode I find the colours washed out...
Hardware does fail and sometimes you just get unlucky I suppose :(
So, no power light at all ? And you've swapped the mains cable so that's not the issue. Just one thing worth checking before the call to HP tech support, there is a power switch right next to the power socket, try clicking it...
I used to have a 7" lcd TV, vga input, as a second display doing just what you describe. Have a look at
http://www.samurize.com/modules/news/
And how it used to look:
According to tftcentral the HP black level is as good as, if not slightly better than, the dell. See Calibrated Black Depth about 3/4 down the page.
http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/hp_lp2475w.htm
I've measured the HP as low as 0.1cd, e1d2, which I understand is very good for any LCD...

I was bored so if anyone wishes to mess around with their ClearType settings give this a try.
Settings are applied in real time so no need to reboot. Registry is updated so changes should survive a reboot.
The 1000 to 2200 range is suggested by M$, I've limited the ^ and v to 0...10000 and...
My monitor has a blue gradient going left to right, the right being the most blue. So no, you are not alone with this problem. I'm waiting a little while for the dust, and the back light, to settle while using the time to gather more information before requesting a replacement. While the problem...
Indeed, mainstream consumer cards with 10bit processing and 10bit DACs have been around since 2002. The ATI Radeon 7000 for example could certainly be pressed into true 10bit service on the Mac. Talking of the Mac I believe the Radius ThunderPower was a true 10 bit card that predated even this...
A decade you think ? I suspect we are somewhat closer. That said better than 8bit was available over 10 years ago only to be stifled by the sRGB quest for efficiency - file size, transfer speed, processing speed, memory usage, little to do with fidelity.
Common interfaces that support better...
<chuckle> The very first thought that went through my head as the Windows desktop loaded on this monitor was 'Hay, this looks just like my CRT'. Must be an IPS thing. If they could up the contrast by a small factor of 10 giving a black level around 0.01cd/m then I genuinely think this LCD...
The people having, how best to put it, visual issues with this monitor have my sympathies.
With over 20 years of daily work with PC's I thought I was immune to such effects, then about 3 months ago I bought a dell 2408fwp. It arrived on Saturday and was put to use. When I awoke on the Monday...
<nice set of links E.T. here are some more for your collection>
Firstly a nice FireFox test. If things are set up correctly the image at the top should not change, the image near the bottom should change:

Access Denied means exactly what it says, something is denying access. This is often the result of over zealous virus or malware software preventing access to the system folder. Disable any and all Virus, Malware, Spyware, Adware, System protection software and try again.
I called HP business...
You have had a troubled time :(
Banding is a funny issue and can be caused by incorrect monitor settings, video card settings too. I am in no way questioning your claims, I just want to point this out.
The other issues are clearly faults. Here in the UK I believe, I could be wrong, the...
@mildante,
I'm sure someone with a lot more knowledge than I will provide you with more detailed information. Meantime here's some links to get you started courtesy of philjohn:

For those with text issues, I suspect the following is already part of the ClearType tuning process but give it a go, FontSmoothingGamma is the setting to change.

Remember to select Decimal when entering values in the recommended...
Instead of 16:9 been hailed as 'True HD' which as Whisperfang says is meaningless I'd like to see 16:9 hailed by the far more truthful '10% Less height Guaranteed, Only of Benefit as a Cost Cutting Measure to Manufacturers'.
Just some quick notes
Modern video cards appear to have perfectly fine analog outputs.
DB-15 is the name given to the standard vga connector.
If making adjustments to your crt alignment settings i recommend using some decent test software, the Nokia test is ideal (first location i found...
