What the heck.. I upgraded my Z170 Pro from the firmware that shipped (0224 dated 2015/09/28) to the latest (2202 dated 2016/10/04) in one go and didn't have any problems.

CPUs fail but from my experience at a fairly low rate based on my personal experience over 30 years of messing with PCs. I've had server CPUs fail and the replacement part be DOA.

If it performs at the same level as a 980 then they are charging too much.. Based on how the Fury X performed at lower resolutions vs the 980ti, I have a feeling this card will get beaten by the 980 at resolutions < 2560x1440.

Probably depends on what games you're playing, at what res, and what your expectations are. I went from a 780 to a EVGA 980 SC and for me it was worthwhile upgrade since I bought the card used.
