My Gateway FHD2400 has been working perfectly since I got it a few months ago. Then tonight, I turn everything on and when the vid card starts sending a signal to it, there's nothing but snow across the DVI input.
All the card has is DVI out, so can't test anything else. And I don't have...
Oblivion was a bust for me as well with that hotfix.
It seemed to run okay on the base 8.3 drivers, but there was some stuttering every few seconds, even indoors with all the video options at default settings. I thought I might need that ATI hotfix, so I applied it, and wow did things really...
Oh, no problem on the commens...I work in customer service, so I've heard it all, and I come from a QA background, so that's why I'm pretty anal about reproduceable tests :)
I don't have Crysis, but do have Oblivion (don't have many of the modern games right now cause they wouldn't run anyway...
Well, I was trying to find a dedicated utility or demo, and wanted to stay away from something like just playing a game because the load on the GPUs would vary depending on the scene, what I'm doing ingame, isn't hitting the GPUs at 100% *ALL* the time, etc. There's too many variables to make...
Just built a new system with a VisionTek 3870 X2, and am trying to find a good GPU benchmark that will stress both GPUs at the same time so I can monitor temperature, and I'm coming up short.
I tried ATITool, but seems I can only run the fur cube test against one GPU or the other, not both at...
I just bought an Asus Maximus Formula, and it looks like the only SATA ports on it are the Intel ICH9R RAID SATA ports.
Rather than buying an IDE DVD drive, I bought a SATA DVD, and now I'm wondering can I run it off the ICH9R ports, or are those ports for hard drives only?
I didn't get an...
Had to run check my invoice...
$275
That was the version (OEM?) without a heat sink/fan...just the CPU.
I bought a Zalman CNPS9700 LED for a HSF for it. I was tempted to lap both the CPU and HSF, but now I'm not sure I'll spend the time doing that. I may just try it stock, since I...
I just bought a Q9300 at the Fry's in San Jose, CA.
I wanted a Q6600, but the guy said, "But we have the new Q9300, it's faster - don't you want one of those!?"
I thought oh crap, there goes all my research out the window, cause I don't know anything about this new quad series, but decided...
I see so many people talking about BLB on LCD monitors. I have an older Xerox LCD at home myself with some BLB.
But what CAUSES it?
What happens to the panel to make the backlight shine through more? Is the light getting brighter over time, or is some coating deteriorating on that panel...
Yeah, I never sell computer equipment. I hate having to deal with auction houses and buyers halfway across the country, etc.
I just keep my old equipment for a backup PC I have, and then once it gets so old it's not worth anything, I toss it in the garbage.
Hard to imagine tossing an...
Ah - except I'd want the Danger Den waterblock (I like their stuff, plus if BFG picked them as a partner to design their block, they must be doing something right), and I'm sure the cost of a separate 8800GTX plus a DD waterblock would probably be more than just buying BFG's DD watercooled...
Well, call me crazy then :)
My current PC is five years old, so needless to say they tend to last me a while, so when I decide to build a new one, I usually wait until NEW technology is available, and Conroe and DX10 cards definitely qualify.
So if I'm going to drop the money into building...
I'm thinking about doing a watercooled system for my next rig, and was wondering if anybody out there was running one of the BFG 8800GTX watercooled cards yet, and what your impression was?
Looks like a very nice card (and I'd like the single-slot solution) but for the additional money over...
I found this article on 8800GTX and Oblivion to be very interesting, and sounds like this card is really capable of running it at some very maxxed settings:

Was curious if anybody had a Lian-Li PC-60APLUSII (or PC-60BPLUSII) case they had squeezed an 8800 GTX video card into?
I'm especially concerned about the length and clearance to the back of the hard drive cage, and also clearance with the side fan.
I don't own this case yet, but am...
I don't own a 2405, but...
Black bars? Are you talking about "letterbox" bars at the top and bottom when you're watching movies on a 4:3 screen? If that's what you're talking about, the 2405 shouldn't do that because it's a 16:10 monitor. Well, since it's 16:10 instead of 16:9, there might...
I took a look at the Gateway because PC Magazine and some other sites gave it really good reviews. But...it has the Intel Media Accelerator graphics chipset, which I'm trying to avoid.
I wanted to find a convertible with a "real" graphics chipset, and found the Toshiba Tecra M4 can be...
I posted another thread asking about convertibles running Windows Tablet Edition that also have good graphics cards for gaming (not that Intel Accelerator).
I found that Toshiba's Tecra M4 has the GeForce Go 6600, and can be upgraded to 128 MB, and seems to have DirectX 9 support and Shader...
Just found out the Toshiba Tecra M4 is a convertible with a GeForce Go 6600 with up to 128MB RAM.
Any others people know of? Any experiences with the M4?
Here's my problem...
My old crappy ThinkPad finally died. I need a new laptop, but I'd like it dual purpose.
1 - On the business side, I'd prefer a convertible - a laptop where the screen can be folded down over the keyboard and use a stylus to write on it, and it runs Windows Tablet OS...
Well, if it were me, I would just have told Dell the monitor suddenly "broke" one day and wouldn't work. Not really a lie, I would have just left out the part about what broke it was my desk falling apart. No need for them to know that part of the story.
Try calling back and talking to a...
Thanks for the info - all this "dual" DVI stuff is new to me.
That sucks that a monitor that would be SOOOOOO sweet for gaming can only be used by workstation-class cards that aren't good for gaming, or by a video card that's only available for the Mac.
Oh well, there's always the 23" I...
Is DVI Dual Link an industry standard? If so, then I agree, the 30" should be able to be used with any dual DVI card, no matter if PC or Mac.
I would hope it's a standard, because I agree, it would be stupid of Apple to design a 30" LCD that could only be used with Macs, especially when a...
I've seen the recent threads here about Apple's 23" 16ms LCD which is now shipping, but I just saw on their website the 30" will also be 16ms:
http://www.apple.com/displays/specs.html
HOLY SHIT!
A 30" widescreen 16ms LCD? That's like display nirvana! That's almost TOO much monitor...
Understood, but they should at least have empty display boxes, a sign, or some type of indication on the display shelf that they carry the card and it's in stock. I didn't even see a shelf tag for that model card.
And if I didn't make the clueless guy stocking the shelves go check with his...
Yeah, I went there yesterday to see if they really had them, and they weren't out on the shelf. No shelf tags, nothing. The clueless guy stocking the shelf had no idea what I was asking about or where they might be. I had to prod him into asking his supervisor, and it turns out they were...
I only go to the Fremont Fry's to buy stuff that nobody else has in stock. But 90% of the time, even if they have what I'm looking for, every single frigging box on the shelf has been returned with the little white sticker on it. EVERY box.
Fry's must be THE WORST place for taking returned...
Same thing here - I live in Fremont and have been to just about every computer store in the area, and the only thing some of them have are those empty pre-order boxes on the shelves.
I really don't want to shell out the money on a 6800, only to replace it with an XT when it comes out (I...
There's a difference between "buyer beware" and outright fraud and deceptive advertising. This guy is using "fine print" to purposely deceive people.
Only consolation is knowing this scumbag is probably going to pull something similar in real life and whoever he pisses off is going to beat...
I'm helping some folks set up a new wireless network with Proxim Orinoco wireless PCI and PC Cards, and I'm wondering if anybody out there has had any luck with getting their client connection utility to run automatically?
I don't want to use XP zero wireless (or whatever it's called). We...
enyceexdanny - Thanks for the post. Where would I find that setting? Is that part of the nVidia drivers?
I'm going back up there tomorrow to troubleshoot some more, and will try that. Thanks
Turns out it's a known issue. Something to do with Dell video drivers and the monitor's EDID (Extended Device ID?). Somehow the EDID gets screwed up and the monitor gets stuck in power save mode.
Long thread about it here on Dell's forums...
I'm helping a friend install new computers in his office, and one of the systems was ordered with a Dell 2001FP monitor. The systems are Dell Optiplex with some sort of nVidia AGP video card (not sure of the model or specs).
The 2001FP was working great for about three days, then this...
Somehow, I doubt a district attourney is going to prosecute a case against some guy who claims a wire came loose inside his LCD.
LOL, give me a break.
And as far as who's going to pay for my lack of morals, um...
That would be you guys. Cause I'm returning my broken shit and getting my...
