I'm trying to decide between two airport express(es) or one airport extreme.
My belkin craptastic $19 router isn't cutting it anymore, managing a paltry 24% signal strength two rooms away and frequently going dead (different channel then other visible networks, no cordless devices in my...
marketing jargon does not equal a serious reply to a serious audio question, the point is that they cant, that this is like using Bose speakers for the home vs a pair of studio monitors, yes it will 'sound' better because it's boosting certain sound ranges in the lows, mids, and highs. which is...
i've never been able to get ichat av to work with a windows aim without first jumping through hoops on the windows side. Yahoo has been 100% flawless in regards to communicating with windows and osx users, and if both sides have a decent connection the video quality is outstanding.
just stopped by the apple store, i'm going with the black, i'm not a huge fan of that grey color on the inside of the white macbook... and i miss the old keyboard... oh wells. It felt soo much faster then my old 15" powerbook 1.5ghz g4 (duh). nice.

mm i can't wait to buy my 13" macbook. I was contemplating the 15" but 13" is nicer for frequent flights and really who can argue with an intel core duo mac laptop for around a grand (or less :D )
-esr
yeah i was being sarcastic. i think we get a little self centered in the enthusiast community, the more and more that we get all this privileged information the more we feel it's due to us, which is bs _ and we feel that large corporations with business plans should bend to our every whims, also...
i for one don't understand why apple must keep their plans secret. who cares if they spend soo much on r and d and have a steadily increasing market share and the market cornered on design. i want a five year road map and i want them to stick with it, no surprises mean no fun and no fun means...
nope, no point really. i turned my back on a decade of pc uses due to apple's more pleasing design and interface. now i have the ability to revert to an older, less stable os when needed.
i'd wager everyone in the budget camp would he happy though, installing OSX on their newest $500 budget...
while photoshop obviously lags in rosetta, everything else about my 2ghz 20" imac (2gb ram) far exceeded my expectations and i prefer it greatly to my previous dual 2ghz G5 powermac with 4gb of ram and a 20" ACD.

mmm this was fun until the clean XP instal started to BSOD after the second string of updates (Windows SP2 clean install, sophos antivirus). looks like i'll be getting rid of the xp partition, yay for windows, runs sooo well on that crazy intel architecture. PS BSOD on the mac, not a pleasant...
1ghz g4 with bluetooth? hrm... anywho it's alright, it should be fine for taking notes and the like, and the price seems to be in line with what apple products are demanding.
-esr
correct, however prior to the intel based macs there were quite a few people in this forum who were blathering on about how the use of intel chips would mean lower prices even though no indication of such was provided by apple. this vista bs would seem to be in the same vein, again identifying...
um, if this is a shock to anyone here i will be greatly surprised. if anyone thought microsoft and apple would crawl into bed with each other post intel, Id wager a sever reality check is in order.
sad thing is, common sense continues to prevail. intel based imacs did not magically drop in...
i guess we should just all agree that these will be as wildly successful as we predicted and saw tablet PCs to be.
-esr
that said i did pull the old tablet out of the moving box it was sleepign in (under a clip board) and play with it for a bit... then returned it back to its...
i think there's a reason most of the popular tech sites are pretty much chinding microsoft, this is a very hard sell. and as mentioned, many campuses have had wifi for over half a decade, such as my school, bringing it online back in 2000. I've not seen a huge tablet explosion, psp explosion...
THat's pretty much the problem, but i think it goes beyond pc manufacturers. if people want a mac, they will buy one when they can afford to. people buying g4 minis (say like me) were already willingly not buying the fastest machine for the buck because other things were important. that said...
i'm a little confused as to why everyone is bashing the intel core chips. Here's a fun quick question, It has three parts, play along if you can.
A) do you have a mac mini?
B) do you have a mac mini with the intel core chip (or access to one)
C) does the mac mini with intel feel the same...
erm yeah im sending one of mine back at the store as it apple BSODs all the time (that annoying greyed out screen with the warning that you need to restart in a few langauges) such as when using safari or quicktime
-esr
get a gig period, OSX is a delightful resource hog like XP. as per installing it yourself, it's up to you, i had a wonderful time (Sarcasm) doing it myself, mainly because i didn't have a finely sanded putty knife.
-esr
yeah unrapped 'mine' today, i still cant get over the brick and i miss the little feature where the remote sticks to the laptop but it is nice having a 15" portible imac duo :)
-esr
i concur, anyone who talks about their income without adjusting for benis just isn't quite thinking right. im sure you'd end up making up that hourly difference when calculated for benis...

apple's key selling point is OSX, not the design, not their cpus, OSX. if they move to windows they would loose about every apple customer, because we buy their systems for OSX because we can't be bothered with the raging POS that's windows (current or future builds given microsoft's track...
as everyone has said go with the imac, i ditched my powermac for it and aside from the amount of time it's taking adobe to come out with a universal release i'm not complaining.
-esr
honestly i think the 12" is pricey for power/price ratio at $999. $699 is much more reasonable and a much better power/price ratio to me, it's a pitty most apple stores and retailers don't put in the effort to get them at that price
-esr
i've owned both and a powermac dual 2ghz with 2.5gb of ram. the imac is faster then my powerbook, mini, or powermac were, it is worth the increase in price. period. though do make sure it has at least 1gb of ram.
-esr
macbook, period, you can bet we'll be seeing universal versions of everything at AES... the G4 is just so pittyfull, i could only stand it for a few months before going dual G5, now the duo is even nicer. Go Duo and never look back.
-esr
yes.... but (u knew there was a but) it sucks monkey ballz on non universal apps. things like itunes and the like are noticably faster (i'm talking scrolling here on itunes, importing photos on iphoto - imagine that, an quick enough that it's useful iphoto). non universal aplications, things...
well my dear friend (we'll try not to hijack this thread) there are other things. the airport drops my network intermittently in a way the powermac never used to and there have been other minor stumbling blocks. still better then my old xp systems but not up to par with the G5 yet. but i am an...
