The PAX East 2011 DIVpc - Build Log

All, This is the PC I brought to PAX East 2011: Wanted to share it here, as it was hidden in the BYOC area at PAX, which meant only 218 PC gamers and select enforcers & media were able to view it. It started as a cheap desktop ATX case... ...until I added some PVC pipe arms...

Don't trust hard drives to woot.com

If you love woot.com (like I used to), you know they sometimes have great deals on drives. I bit on some 250GB PATA drives ($50) back in 2006, and they were DOA thanks to no padding in the box. The next shipment was much better, but right now I'm going through a nightmare-- see this thread...

Controllers don't work in new EA game

I bought my wife Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix last week to play on her PC. She has completed the first four games with no issue, including the most recent one ("Goblet of Fire") last year using an Xbox gamepad with USB adapter and XBCD drivers. The new game won't identify the same...

Any Quake 3 players left in NE Ohio?

I'm putting together a LAN on Saturday for some local friends who still play Quake 3 (primarily Threewave Capturestrike) and we may fire up UT2004 as well. I have a couple spots open and if you're big on Quake 3 and are around Cleveland Saturday afternoon, PM me and I'll see if I can get you...

Low SLI performance, or about right?

    I got my Core 2 Duo E6400 up to 3.2GHz with 1.45 vCore, the memory (2GB G.Skill) is at DDR2-800 4-4-4-12, and got the 7900GS cards (SLI) running at 590/1560. That's a decent stable overclock that I'm happy with. My benchies: 3DMark05 v1.20 - 14163 3DMark06 v1.10 - 7781 Do these seem a...

RogerX's Core 2 Duo build - cheap and quiet

    My m0n0wall build (AKA monowall)

Just wanted to toss this out there in case anyone was considering a build for themselves... it's an email I sent my friends, so I apologize for the "dumbed-down" nature! :) I completed a networking project over the weekend that I thought you would be interested in. (I ended the sentence in a...
