don't wanna blow away my vista install, so here are some write benchmarks from atto.
tweaking I did was to dramatically change the stripe size (from default 128K down to 8K) and enable the volume write cache in the intel storage manager.
ok did a little tweaking -- this is looking better.
not sure why my CPU usage is so high though. This is with volume write-back cache enabled in the intel storage manager.
i haven't done any tuning or config changes yet, that was a quick and dirty bench. This is on a ICH9R -- unfortunately I don't have a high-end raid card to test with.
will try to do more comprehensive testing this evening.
I know these get posted all the time, but I just wanted to post my outstanding experience with EVGA customer service. I recently had two interactions with EVGA, both of which went above and beyond my expectations for great customer service.
Interaction #1:
Bought a 9800GTX awhile back...
if anyone has invites left, I'd really appreciate it. I'll share any new invites back to this community.

Thanks very much!
thanks everyone, all of the responses were very helpfull. I think I'll wait for the new cards to come out to put into my main system, and then move the current 8800GTS I have into the mATX system -- now that I know I have enough power :)
Thanks again, cheers!
Hi There.
Please help a n00b figure out this power stuff. I'm building a new system for lan gaming. So it's a mATX system -- case comes with a 350W PS (antec NSK-1380). the powersupply is 80+ rated. It's a non-standard shape, so no replacing the powersupply.
I'm worried about power since...
Hi -- putting together a new system with the following specs:
E8400
Asus P5E-VM HDMI
Corsair Dominator 4GB DDR2-800
To start have it overclocked to 3.6. Doing orthos stress testing and noticed something really weird (or at least I haven't seen before):
Cpu 1 is running twice as fast...
Hi there.
Just installed a new BFG 8800GTS 512MB, but i noticed that the temps seem kind of high. Does 75C at idle seem too high? Is the ntune temp reliable?
thanks!
I'm using the plasma/lcd wall mount from monoprice which cost a whopping.....$25 :D
I couldn't believe the price, but I have to say it works great. I have no worries about it being able to support the GP1U. the design is a basically a clone of the peerless mount that I used to mount a plasma...
One other thing to try. In the advanced menu change the range that OPC is allowed to operate. Even though I set OPC to off I noticed that changing the range changed the brightness (perhaps off is not really off). So I set the OPC range to the smallest interval, -1 to 0.
Ah, I just realized that my sharpness control is turned all the way down too. I did this when I first got the set based on what looks good to me.
Perhaps we ought to start capturing what settings looks best. I also have a spyder2pro coming in, so as soon as I calibrate it I'll post/host the...
just tried dead pixel buddy. either mine doesn't do it or my eyes are not sensitive enough to detect it. Switching between white and others color look instantaneous to me. I don't see any changes in color intensity.
Can you describe what application/game you're seeing this in? I haven't seen anything like you describe. I'd be happy to try out what you are doing to cause this effect and see if this is happenning on mine (i don't think so...)
Which input are you using?
the manual shows it's possible to hook vga to the DVI input of the screen (it's a DVI-I so it works with both). Then you can connect the other computer to one of the HDMI ports.
well, first I went from a 23" apple to a 30" dell.
second, apple monitors are not that good. Seriously, those apple monitors had all kinds of issues. uneven backlighting, no ability to display BIOS screens, and probably the worst, a crazy pink hue to everything that was impossible to calibrate...
when I posted I said it was changing.... well, it's changed! :p Here's my new setup:
Sharp LC32GP1U 1080P mounted on the wall
Dell 3007WFP-HC on an Ergotron 400 Arm
It's so wide I can't even capture it when I sit in my seat! Break out the fisheye lens!
I guess it's a good thing...
One of the main reasons I went with the Sharp over the 37" westy is because I want to use it primarily as a PC monitor. One thing to keep in mind is that the 32" sharp, the 37" westy, and the 42" westy all have the same resolution[. What that means on the larger screens is that the pixels will...
It's my camera doing this. In real life the pictures looks nearly identical to your sample image. The only big difference I can see is that the overall picture is brighter which exposes detail not visible in your sample pic. For example, the bottom row of holes in the gun barrell.
I'm not...
Per request a few more pictures:

A closeup so you can see the quality of the text. Note that the ripple and colors are artifacts of my camera. On my screen it looks perfect. But you can tell from the pic that the...
:D you guys are funny. So passionate about our toys, I love it! :D
I'll got take some more pics to get this thread back on track. I know some folks have requested normal pc use pics, so i'll get a few of those. Anything else?
I don't think he is using 1:1 mode. see how both the icons and task bar are off the screen? If he is using one of the "stretch" modes it would indeed make the pixels larger.
Maybe he got unlucky and got a bad unit. Mine has 0 bad/stuck pixels.
Ask him to set it to dot-by-dot mode (it's the...
posted a new thread that references the model # in the title:

and, Yes -- it does do 1920X1080 at 60Hz over DVI.
In honor of the gigantic westy thread, I'm starting a new one for the Sharp GP1U gaming 1080p displays.
First things first, let's put an end to the rumors. This monitor *DOES* do 1920X1080 at 60Hz:
Here's what I am replacing (dual Apple 23"):
Making some room to put the new Sharp...
Ergotron 400 Wall Mount
Yep that's exactly what it is. It's a Recaro LX mounted onto an office base. I did some programming work for a car accessories store and they gave me the chair as a parting gift.
Speakers are Logitech Z680 - meh
Underneath the Logitech Controller is a Benchmark DAC-1 which is connected to my PC via a toslink cable.
To the right of that is a MG-Head OTL32 Headphone Amp.
Depending on the type of music I am listening to I'll either connect my headphones to either the...
Might as well post mine -- since it's changing .... TODAY! New screen being delivered today. But until the delivery comes, here's what I got. It's been this way for maybe 2 years now...
dual apple 23" on ergotron arms:
I asked the same question over on the AVS thread and some folks have come forward saying they had no problems doing 1920X1080@60Hz. In any event I'll let you guys know for sure, mine is being delivered this friday.
$350 is a great price, I think I paid like $800 for one when they first came out. Be aware that these things are crazy LOUD. Get ready for wind tunnel like fan noises unless you have a pair of pricey low power opterons (HE).
Hi There.
I have a 7200.7 (Seagate ST3200822A) drive that recently died. When I try to RMA it, Seagate's web site is saying that it is out of warranty. I don't quite remember when I purchased this drive, so I'm trying to figure out the date code:
Date Code: 04375
Does anyone remember...
