    is the 5000+ x2 am2

Heh, I wish. Newegg is the first in-stock location I have seen since I started looking for one back around the first week in august. Directron is taking preorders for an estimated 8/22 shipment for $359, newegg is gouging people for $699. Everyone else seems to top out at 4600+ X2's, at...

    is the 5000+ x2 am2

Typical newegg price gouging. No one else has them in stock, so they'll sell you one for twice what other sites are pre-ordering for. I was gonna buy my entire new system from them, but this makes me really want to go somewhere else.

Is AMD's new processors going to have DRM built in like Intel's

I dont believe they'll put DRM hardware in CPU's just yet, maybe eventually once they get their software algorithms better... As far as DRM, Longhorn is going to be chock full of it, and it's already snuck into XP. Anyone else notice the 'protected media content' in WMP 10+? So that will...

    xp-120 lapping

I took my SLK-800 to optical quality using micro finishing compounds (abrasive, not polishes!) Took my load temps down 10C, don't know what they would be if I stopped at 600 grit, but probably not as good, since 600 grit still has visible scratch marks that could trap air.

    I'm gonna make the switch....

Gentoo is great once you get it setup. The way I look at it, I learned enough during the install/setup to run the system with ease :D Its a distribution that provides a lot of security, and the ease of keeping your software up to date is as simple as # emerge --sync && emerge -uD world :p

Best ppD (bang) for Buck for Heat output for Power consumption

Correct me if I'm wrong, but that cpu runs at a 200mhz FSB (I think the 800mhz that newegg refers to is the HTT frequency) You have DDR266 ram, that runs @ 133Mhz FSB. With that ram, you cant even run stock speeds (unless you plan on using mem divider, which you didnt mention) Muskin is...

Best ppD (bang) for Buck for Heat output for Power consumption

the 3100+ apppears to be a 9x multiplier, while the 3300+ is 10x. I'd say you'd get more out of the 3300s.

    Razer Diamondback Plasma LE

I was so close to buying a razor about a year ago. Then I realized that I couldn't stand twitch shooters anymore. So here I sit with an MX510. Definitely not as cool looking as that plasma, but a whole bunch cheaper. Plus it suits my computing environment. If I still played FPSes, I'd be...

Does Logitech make a corded MX700?

My roomate has the MX700 cordless, while I have a 510 corded mouse. I dont notice a difference in resolution with the mice. I do however notice a lag when using his mouse, especially with the scroll wheel. The battery part doesnt seem to bother him, and I havent seen it run dead on him in...

Less than 50,000 Points to go!

I must admit, the rapid ramp up on OCAU is damn impressive. All those folders coming out of the woodwork, + Sceggs about to come back online... I remain hopeful on getting to number one, but we'll need some serious firepower when that 200k per day starts rolling in if we want to stay on top.

    Congrats on getting to #1

Seems to me that the recipe for concrete involves quite a bit of sand, a few larger rocks, and water :D I look forward to great competition in the top ranks; a nice afterthought to a great program for all of humanity. I myself started as a small grain of sand in the great scheme of things...

    folding without a hard drive?

Yea, this will definitely end up being a semi-permanent solution until I get a big enough garden to make fold-server worth it. I'll probably work on minimizing the minimal livecd with samba support and an automated script to get it all working. Maybe down the road something that loads data...

    folding without a hard drive?

I would love to be able to use EM3 to do it, but this cd does not appear to have samba installed on it (big surprise there) It does however have the ssh daemon included, so I'll just have to give that a go.

    folding without a hard drive?

I just made a gentoo livecd work for me. I still need to write a script and modify the iso so it works on reboots, but it will do for the time being as it is. Steps: Download gentoo livecd (60MB) Boot mkdir /mnt/gentoo/fah (the livecd makes a ramdisk for itself) cd /mnt/gentoo/fah wget...

    folding without a hard drive?

I'm all for bootable cd distros, but the size of this file vs what I need it to do seems a tad bit out of whack. Its a full distro complete with x server and several window managers, even KDE! It may be faster for me to learn how to manipulate ram drives and create my own gentoo cd before...

    folding without a hard drive?

I saw something on the ocix forums about the spanish thing... Seems the people that showed it at CeBit decided to have it output all errors in spanish, and that made it through to the release. There was a post on how to fix it, but it only works on hdd installs, so I didnt...

    folding without a hard drive?

My friends system just had the hard drive die, and he says he's just gonna go on his laptop till the hardware over the horizon comes around. So, I relieved him of his box, thinking I could fold on it without a hard drive. I thought I saw a linux bootcd swimming around somewhere that would let...

    Venice Nicknames

Geeze people... The Latin part of my brain just writhed and screamed in agony. Veni Vidi Vici. I came, I saw, I conquered. There, I've said my peace. Leave it as venice, it's already a codeword <= 2 syllables.

I was going to, but upon further testing this is not a feasable situation. I successfully got my work unit to switch over a few times, but now windows has no idea what linux did to this work unit, and the core crashes. Reboot to linux, and it chuggs along fine... So for now, its back to...

    I tunes questions

He's not talking about an iPod (which will actually show up as a firewire/usb drive), and can be loaded with any music files you have. He's talking about songs downloaded from Apple's music store. Thats where the DRM crap comes in. iPod does not require the music store.

    Sharing work across clients

I recently began dual-booting winxp and gentoo linux, as I just swore that XP will be the last M$ product I ever install. My question is: If I put my windows client on an FAT32 partition, can I have the linux folding client use the same work directory, thereby having a continuous work queue...

    Thermal Throtlling

I have an AMD system, but as far as my board is concerned throttling only happens when the system is in a standby state. Throttling on my board reduces the clock speed of the cpu and drops the voltage until you wake the system up. IE, 87.5% throttling when the system is in standby means my...
