Hello Everyone! New to the forums here but seems like its better here then
most of the other places I have been visiting.. so enough with the talk, on to
the action...

I have always been interested in Chem-Warfare and things of the nature, so
I figured I would do a case around that idea... The case I ordered was an
entry-level server case, from the pictures, it seemed pretty small and typical
of an ATX case.. but it is good sized.. (cant really tell how large it is from my
pics as well, but its much larger then your typical Dell case.. )

1.jpg

2.jpg

The nice thing about this case is thumbscrews hold 75% of the stuff together,
while smaller screws hold everything else together (except for the main frame
structure which is riveted of course..)

3.jpg

Bunch of nasties inside.. have to get rid of that junk...

5.jpg

No! No dissasemble!

Time for some dremel work! you can see where it is going
so I will let the pictures talk..

Didnt like too much how it looked so I cut the center part of the bio out
lots of sanding and filing to be done later on, right now im getting the
basics done, then I will go back and make it look pretty!

Introducing Tracker. Mans best friend, his Cameo as well as mine

Bio-Dog checkin things out... (He always helps me find the
broken bits of cutting disks that fly about the room, I can tell
because he is quiet and looks like he is trying really hard to
eat something that doesnt taste good..)

Time to do some work on the front B.
I didnt like the USB/Audio ports on the front,
kinda cheezy.. those got to go, switches arent
that nice either, not into led's on the front of the
puter either.. and want the front intake to look
a little more like you would find in a chem-lab
I will let the rest be shown in the pics.

Instead of the one fan for intake, I will mount 2
(more on this later once the fans are here.. )

Current work area with some tools and other goodies,
(Sander 10$ at walmart. alot easier then hand sanding!)

Some goodies from our friends at Xoxide

Today I came home to two packages!

One is filled with a secret that I will reveal later on (one of many to come..)

and the other had some rounded IDE cables and my new Sony combo dvd/cdrw drive
No pictures because its not that interesting...

any feedback thus far?

So far you've got my interest, and have created the need for me to mod again.

It is looking great so far!

What case exactly is that? link where you got it? Thanks.

NewEgg is my friend :) for 35$ only, but it does the trick.. Alum case, classy, no
cheesy "pre-mods" the only plastic to the case is the little bit that holds the front
B to the case and the case fan, everything else is Alum

SkyHawk/Eagle Tech Silver Aluminum ATX Mini Server case, Model "MSR4610"

They have a couple more different types of cases there, just search for SkyHawk/Eagle,
so far i love the quality and have no problems with the case!

Skyhawk "server" case. Search skyhawk's cases at newegg, think its around $50. Basically the same as a pc60. Ahh beaten ;)

Well the last of my FedEx packages from NewEgg is waiting outside my front door,
so more work to do tonight and some more pictures as well. Still waiting on some
things from an un-named online auction site...

Looks good. I like the theme.

However, everytime I scroll past a picture with your dog in it....I think I see a Donkey. Is something wrong with me?

This sounds like a cool mod, with lots 'o possibilites. I also like the fact that you've gotten right into it head-first with pics and proposals. Do you have any sketches of your overall theme? Is it "scientific instrument"-like or more of a "creepy gooey don't touch that it'll kill ya" type look? Anxious minds want to know.

looks good so far. that cutout looks pretty good, except it needs some cleaning up, and the box cutout doesn't look quite square (i mean besides the corners... it is a quadrilateral but not with 90 degree angles - the sides aren't quite right) some sanding should fix that right up (unless that's the look your going for, in which case it would mess it up pretty good)

good luck!

I am going for more of a lab look to it, I havent had time between work and other "real life" stuff to do any type of sketch up things.. but i will give some insight to the future of the mod.. and as for right now all my cuts are very rough as I am mostly getting the basics done and later on during movie watchings etc I can do some serious sanding and polishing to give it that finished look, its not going to be a hack-n-slash mod, and the paint job i want will probably have to wait until its a tad bit warmer outside.. (more for me having
to stand out there rather then for the mod)

So one thing that will happen in the near future is glowing stuff.
this may or may not be in test tubes and other various chemical warfare looking containers

another is (thanks to ebay) i found a WWII chem war chart with the list of the weapons
and all.. this will be included somehow.. somewhere.. later on..

top, blow hole, and a special sign that will probably take a weekend to make..

I have the front plexi cut that is holding 2 uv yellow fans that will be situated between the front b and the case frame and will post pics after my vacation (sometime next week)

The whole case will be sanded down and have a nice paint job (it will not be one standard
color, but you will have to wait to see what i have in store..)

Inside, i took out both of the hdd bays, and will be making special plexi holders for them to slide into the 5 1/4 bay up top, along with my new Sony CDRW/DVD combo and a plain 48x (free) cd rom drive.

So those are the basics for the next couple of months at least, i commute to work, so weekday work time is nil, and weekends it contends with the dog and how long the female resident in the apartment can stand the loud sounds of a certain tool touching a certain type of material ;)

I just wanted to say sorry for not providing updates recently, as Half-Life 2 ruled my life for a short time (bday present) finished in roughly 36 hours spread out

then had to move our entire apt (from a 3bedroom to a 1 bedroom.. long story)

and now xmas break, but I will return on monday night, so hopefully updates week from tomorow (wed) :)

Well back from vacation and had a little time to mod... on with the pix..

Goodies! You will see the red box later ;)

Prep work on the top.

Blow Hole

Nifty Handles from Ikea for ~2$
7.jpg

Making lots of little holes to hold everything in place...
8.jpg

This one can remain a small mystery for now ;)
9.jpg

1 Coat Primer, 2 Flat white, lots more coats to come...
10.jpg

Scrap metal for something fun later on...
11.jpg

12.jpg

13.jpg

Before/After just have to paint, and add a little plexi etc.. will be a small
wire junction box in the near future

Just an idea for that big hole on the side. How about plexiglass with a UV reactive biohazard sign on it (xoxide?) And UV lights. Awsome idea so far, keep up the good work.

I have the UV's already, most likely for that side i will have the big
vial's with glowy stuff there, (I don't want TOO many bio-haz signs)
as I think it looks somewhat tacky (too much of a cool thing) like
many other cases out there...

With the first 3 coats of paint on the top, and the painted handles
and blowhole
a.jpg

That little piece of scrap you saw earlier... Add a little heat,
you get some bubbles (when it is nearly done drying)
and a look that just warns "Do Not Touch!"
b.jpg

The bubbled paint is nice looking, but how well will it hold up? Will those bubbles flake off soon?

The bubbles really arent that high off the plate, and shortly after
it cooled down some i pressed them all down (still has the same
effect but will not be prone to the flaking) I will update more tonight
once im home and get some more work done

you're right about the biohazard thing being overused, it's just that I saw one there before the big hole and figured that's what you wanted. But I'm all for vials of glowy stuff, that would be awsome. Keep it up!

I like getting off work early for hollidays, more time to have fun!

Well when I finally got to work i found this waiting for me
(note this is just a photocopy of it, not going to actually use the
o/g document for reasons you will see later..)
1.jpg

Taped up..
2.jpg

Of course i forgot to take any pics before i actually started cutting...
3.jpg

Rough opening, gosh, JigSaws make it easier! (saves on discs too)
4.jpg

Using discs and the carbide bit i finished off the opening.. but
i have to say this is the first time i saw a disc do this...
5.jpg

Primer coat on the MB side door..
6.jpg

This will be my next project for tonight, after a short FarCry break.
Can you guess what might happen with these 2 next?
7.jpg

No comments? :(

Well. I suppose 157 comments and a Locked Thread indicates that
maybe no comments means everyone likes? :p :D

I am just a lowly office worker
But it pays the bills, (and im Federal... so I cant loose it anytime soon)

Right now I am just resting a bit (far cry break) and soon will do some prep work
for future cuts etc, as it is getting late (dont want to make the people in the apts
around me cranky...) and have to wait to spray paint until tomorow (when its
light and isnt freezing outside ;))

One of the main things I am looking at is for the main door window cutout,
as I am not sure what design I want yet... hmmmm.

I will let the pictures speak for themselves...
8.jpg

9.jpg

10.jpg

I might have to resand everything down to the AU later and redo this,
im not feelin this paint that much, it works "ok" but not great

Liquidate
The torture kills the troops that try to fight
Terminate
Human pesticide bring days of doom
Mist falls
The deadly gas that brings them to their knees
Sacrifice
Steal the soul and send his corpse to hell

Yeah...saw the title, first thing I thought of was the Slayer song.

Anyhow, it looks pretty good. Seeing all these things makes me really want to free up some time to get my ass moving on my project.

Lots of tape... paint by numbers...
1.jpg

X-acto knife and 20 minutes...
2.jpg

Couple coats of paint...
3.jpg

Go to bed... wake up a few hours later... back to work
4.jpg

5.jpg

6.jpg

Still needs the second color, and some clear coats and cleaning up
but you can see where this is going...
7.jpg

8.jpg

9.jpg

Just a couple pics of glowy stuff to statisfy your thirst...
a.jpg

b.jpg

paint by numbers looks fun...

looks like it is turning out pretty well. good luck!

Mmm I'm loving the look. I don't know if I've ever seen a well done biohazard themed computer before, looking foward to the final results.

Thank you for all the good comments :)

Alas. it is 10:30... the new year draws near..

and about.... time too. its been too long and hard this year..
but enough real life bs.

What better way can you bring in the New Year, and in
conjunction (sorry for the big word) what better way to
end an old crappy year?

Modding of course ;)

Plexi. Nothing to see here, just an after shot of the 3 peices I cut to size..
1.jpg

Paint by numbers continued!
2.jpg

Hmm. Heck with numbers. Lets paint it all.. GREY!
3.jpg

Instead of watching paint dry today, I thought I might as well get
some more work done.. between bouts of FarCry that is...

Here is the non MB side door. I was thinking about doing a lot
of smaller cuts with the windows blending in with the cammo
paint job I am giving it, but, then you wouldnt be able to see
all the nifty stuff inside.. so plain gi jane for now...
4.jpg

5.jpg

Hmm. All nice and grey...
6.jpg

Or is it?
7.jpg

Mock up just to check it out, and to let you people at home see ;)
8.jpg

Remeber I said I didnt like how the small plate came out.. well
here i go again (I stripped it down and painted it the flat black,
its almost like a very fine powdercoat which suits me fine)
Next up is making little holes in paper..

Last time I just taped the plate, then taped the paper on top of the
taped plate.. then cut.. etc.. it was fast and simple, but not very
good looking... since im doing it over... might as well do it right
the 2nd time... ;)
9.jpg

10.jpg

11.jpg

The smaller letters there are 5/24" the right size for a term paper..
but a paint with an exacto knife..
12.jpg

Earlier in the day I ripped open some highlighters.. dumped em in
with some good ol UV reactive... Tonic Water
13.jpg

Few hours later... they are even darker now as I type this post..
Later on I will add them to all the test tubes (diluted so its not
so dark) and take some night shots for more oohy gooey glowy
chemical warfare madness.... enjoy!
