1.2 FarCry Patch (Fix for Nvidia cards!) is out!!

Cannibal Corpse said:
Does anyone know if the drivers that are posted on nVIDIA's web today would support SM 3.0 right out of the box?

Thanks!

61.76 does not, but the soon to be released 61.77's will, the ones on the website can be edited easily.

How do you get rid of the "SM30 Path Beta" on the top of the screen?

From what I am seeing is that the old save games are not compatible with the new patch. I would back them up just incase you need to revert back to 1.1 so it's not a total loss.

Also, you guys may want to reinstall Farcry and skip the 1.1 patch and install 1.2, it has helped a lot of problems.

When I played through the game the first time I had huge problems with corrupted save game files but found that you can just use the "cheats" to switch to a new level and continue where you left off...a good alternative for people upgrading in the middle of playing the game...

Would it be too much to ask if some kind soul, does the all the nv4_disp.inf editing, DX9c, and post the complete package somewhere for easy download? Some of us n00b-ies would really appreciate it all!

NVNEWS has a good guide to enabling SM3.0 in FarCry.

You need to
A) modify the inf of 61.76 and (re)install it
B) install dx9.0c
C) install farcry 1.2 patch
D) use proper commandline switches to enable sm30 path

If all this is done properly, you should see yellow text at the top of the screen that indicates SM30 is enabled.

Also, here is an example of one of the Sm30 features in action (VS3.0 Geometry Instancing) from an nvnews user:

v1.2 SM2.0 - 51,213 polygons, 69fps

v1.2 SM3.0 - 46,139 polygons, 73fps

Over 5,000 less polygons being rendered with the same visual output from the same position.

You'll stay a noob if people do it for you! Edit the inf file with notepad (right click on the file and hit open with and pick word pad, text editor, or notebook.

lol @ laziness of waiting until 61.77 is released. It takes 30 seconds to edit the file and insert the 2 necessary lines.

saw this posted over at Farcry forums:

That geometry instancing must be having a big effect in that particular screenshot, cool beans.

Curious to know if they made it detect X800s properly now. It would be nice if they listed everything they did in the text file. For now, I'm going to assume they didn't fix it. That'll suck to have to wait until 1.3 just to have it detect my card properly.

Well the results aren't massive in the Pier run that I've been using for my benching runs but the differance is there.

Roughly 4 FPS on average in that particular area.

I didn't bother uninstalling the old driver set, just added those two lines to the end of the .inf file and it appears to be working with SM 3.0.

I'm sure theres areas where it is more usefull but my numbers there are pretty much on par with what I had seen on the reviews.

four frames huh? AWESOME!!!!

SM, did you have the yellow text on your screen saying that you had SM3 beta path enabled when doing the benchmark?

Supposedly you can use a hex editor to open XRenderD3D9.dll and remove the text string. I'm still stuck at work, so I haven't verified this though.

you doubt that the widely lauded "SM3.0" only gets a measly four frames increse? hahaha.

Or about a 10% improvement. Depends on how you look at it. 10% improvement for free is pretty nice in my book.

Well it wouldn't be consistant with the results from all of the reviewers findings. Also you have to understand that the nv40 is correctly rendering everything which is a good trade off as well. But you don't like the game anyway, why crap on a thread, read the rules lately?

Nope, then again i don't know how to turn it on that readings either, gimmie a clue here.

UPDATED:

there's something that you can put in your nv4_disp.inf file of the whql drivers to force sm3, brb.

[nv_SoftwareDeviceSettings]

Here is the guide to installing dx9.0c without getting sp2.

http://www.iamnotageek.com/articles.php?aid=85&page=1&topic=DX_9c

after installing

The last step: add this into your shortcut for farcry:

-DEVMODE "r_sm30path 1"

This is what it should look like:

"C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Crytek\Far Cry\Bin32\FarCry.exe" -DEVMODE "r_sm30path 1"

P.S. creedamd doubts your benchmarking skills :(

well it's obvious now that he didn't have it in SM3 mode, did you read the reviews on this patch, if 4 frames flipped your panties, you wait until you see other maps!

yeah, i'll probably run right out and buy a 6800gt upon seeing the results.

There's enough other reasons to buy a 6800gt, this is just a free bonus. You can't complain about something for free can you??

People that are cpu limited might get a better increase....the graphics card can take some of the load...I am hoping I see a bit more than 4fps average since I seem to be fairly cpu limited anyway, considering I get the same benches at 800x600 as I do at 1280x1024.

So Crytek didn't fix the issues with the ATI cards in the 1.2 patch?? Thats strange considering the amount of time they have taken to get this patch out.

these are issues created by the patch..I did not have them previously.

He's speaking in reference to the known issues that the reviewers found when running the 1.2 patch on Ati cards, it was supposed to be fixed.

A snippet from Nvidia's latest driver release notes:

Updated July 20, 2004 9:00 PM PDT: Windows XP / 2000 61.76 is WHQL certified using DirectX 9.0b. The WHQL tests for DirectX 9.0c were not available at this time. When DirectX 9.0c is available, NVIDIA will release drivers to support it.

The patch has given me missing textures. Thank you I'm so grateful

Don't you love it when developers and graphics companies are in bed together?

im not getting the SM 3.0 Beta at the top of the screen. I have 9.0c installed (via SP2), i installed the 1.2 patch and changed my shortcut correctly (when farcry starts i go into console and it says that SM30 is enabled), and i added those lines to my nv4_disp.inf file and installed from there. Where could i have gone wrong?

Try uninstalling both patches, then reinstalling the 1.2 patch. I've read a few post on various forums from people who had problems going from 1.1->1.2. Installing the 1.2 patch over a fresh 1.0 install seems to work the best.
