I remember reading that the 4850 1GB doesn't improve much and actually can perform worse but the 4870 1GB has better FPS, especially on higher res.
I don't know but for $259.99 AR on the Diamond 1GB is pretty hot

I think that was because the memory was slower on that 1gig 4850 in that review.Yup. I read that too. Looking for where I read it so I can go over it again. I am buying a new gpu next month and better get it right the first time. Leaning toward the Sapphire 4870 1Gb heavy now that it is under $300.
Mmm. I'm showing that as $299.99, +$9 for shipping, with no rebate. What gives?

that would be stupid when you can get the 4870X2 for cheaperDiamond is apparently offering a $40 mail-in rebate if you buy TWO of them. Zipzoomfly had a link to it.

oh my bad then.I was just stating what I think shraz was mistaking for a $40 rebate on one..
I have a 4870 512, at 1680x1050 I'm wondering if the 1gb will make much of a difference at that resolution?
Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 (3166MHz) + Gigabyte HD 4870 1GB in 3D Mark Vantage trial:

As usual, I find myself at the low end of the scale.
What happened with games having built-in benchmarks? Not feeling that "3D Mark" love, really.
I would just run fraps in whatever games you play.
Not 100% repeatable in gameplay. Not comparable across users. Too much like work.

Not really. Looks like 1920x1200 and up is where the difference is. Maybe in like a year that will change but except for Crysis, Clear Sky, and other super texture heavy games, no change.
