Newegg has Gigabyte Radeon R9 390 8GB 512-Bit GDDR5 Video Card (GV-R939WF2-8GD (rev. 1.0)) for $299.99 - $25 w/ promo code VCO2015BTS (must use VISA Checkout) = $274.99. Shipping is $3.99.

Its basically a 8GB OC'd 290x for comparison/benchmarks. Great performance for the price.

I got all excited, $574.99 for Xfire, then reality hit me that I just spent money on my Jeep. dammit.

The product page shows it at $299 but when you add it to cart it's actually $329. Weird.

Also, VCO2015BTS has expired.

So it's $329.99 plus a $20 MIR, plus $4 shipping. Meh.

Dead is either dead or never existed.

If it was actually $275 + $4 shipping, I would have gotten it.

edit: And now the product page shows $329. Definitely dead before it really started.

Does anyone have any comparisons between this and the 290/290X Windforce 3X models in terms of temperature or noise? The addition of 4GB of GDDR5 as well as the further pushing of the core clocks makes me wonder why they went with a smaller cooler for this card, unless it is somehow more efficient.

Sorry to sound like a broken record, but why would you go with a 390 for $280 when there are 290s out there with good aftermarket cooling, a back plate and a free game for as low as $230? It's not like the extra 4GB on the 390 is going to matter as the GPU doesn't have enough horsepower to get to a resolution/IQ to need the extra memory.

True. I am quite happy with my 290. The 8GB cards would probably be nice for Crossfire though.

Right now you can get a 290x for $250 and a 290x with 8gb for $300 if you want something for crossfire futureproofing...

GTX 980 performance at $250-$300... lol @ NVidia.

The deal was posted late here. The promotion ended Aug 31 at midnight PST.

Wasn't the 390 based off the 285 anyway? And the 390X off the 290X... Makes it even more worthwhile to track down the clearance 200 series IMO. They're really milking that architecture for all it's worth, between the early mining craze that had them sold out for months on end and the current clearance + rebadge...

Got a link to that deal?

Here's a one with a good cooler that gets close and gives you a free game:

Unless you're going Crossfire (and even this rational is tenuous since even up to 4k you're not going to need the extra vram), there's simply no reason to go with 390/x while there are still 290/x out there for 20% less with free games.

Think of it this way: would you rather have a 290 with 8GB for $310 (cheapest I see AR), or a 290x with 4GB and a free game for $260? My choice would be clear every time, no doubt.

390x is tweaked 290x with 8GB

390 is tweaked 290 with 8GB

And the RAM speed does seem to make a difference if you look at reviews.

The gigabyte 390 is voltage locked? Is that still true?

Would it really matter? Don't buy a 390 or 390x and expect to get any OC headroom on it, they have pretty much already pushed the cards close to their limits.
