New Lian Li case TYR PC-X500

I was considering the TJ9 but the side intake and the open mesh area for the hdd's kinda turned me off... but it was the best design until I saw this...

I like not to see my componets since I like to add some sound dampering on both panels, and moving the hard drives to the top is great... direct front intake to cool the cpu and gpu area! nothing in the way.

I disliked the TJ-09 for the same reasons you do. However other than I still think its' the best case design and it will suit my needs better than what I have now.

we should see a TYR PC-X500 Thread popup on the forums soon!

if i see the OP start it without him owning one himself and with pictures im gonna shoot someone..

need case porn!

I almost had one but got distracted in the last thirty minutes of the bid on flea bay. I think it went for $210, and I was so depressed I let it slip away. Said screw it I am not waiting, and bought an antec 1200 instead.

why is this thing so flipping expensive.. its a MID tower. not some eATX monster..

just cant justify the price at all when i payed under 100$ for my A05. cant be that much more aluminum used for this case..

It's not about how much material was used. It's about the quality and uniqueness that this case has.

I will definitely consider this case for my next build later on this winter.

It's because it says "Lian-Li" on it.

...so does the A05.

It's because of the design and the "curved" outside I'm sure.

I'd rather take a Rocketfish for $350 less and 'be a square'. :D (pun intended)

anyone know the size of the full tower in inches lol .. im horrible at conversions

also it doesnt look like u could fit a corsair 1000w psu in the midtower without pulling out
the hd cage in front of it or using the psu extende r?

The case has a shallow depth of 15" which is nice, but the height is kinda big for a "mid tower" ... It's 23" in height!

Are the cd-rom bays accessible from both sides on these -X#### models, from the pics at newegg I would say yes, but pictures can be deceiving... Either way the PC-X2000 is going to be my next case for when I do a new build later this year. The X500 is nice but if you are going to spend that much I would just get the X2000 for extra HD bays.

I own a TJ-09 and it's great. The HDD area is actually really well thought out. You can even cram a fan between the two triple bays to push even more air. Now granted, it only has 6 HDD bays, so it's not ideal for a file server, but IMHO that's enough.

see i cant decide between the 2 .. i dont have a ton of hds ..
so i dunno which one is better for me .. the x2000 is nice with the hd cooling but i definitely
dont like 2x80s on the back

I see limited hdd slots as an excuse to junk old ones and upgrade to new 1tb drives.

yea i guess so .. i just think the x2000 is just too tall
but the downside of the smaller one is that it looks like the hd bay gets in the way
of longer psus

I am probably going to order this case this week. Does anyone know whether there would be a problem fitting the Corsair HX1000 or TRUE 120 into this? Would you need to use a PSU extender? Sorry, I am just not familiar with Lian Li or mid-tower cases. FYI, my current config is below. I started to order a Coolermaster Cosmos-S, but just love the look of this case.

Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450
ASUS P5Q-E LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard
ATI 4870x2 Graphics Card
OCZ Reaper HPC 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066
CORSAIR CMPSU-1000HX 1000W Power Supply
Thermalright Ultra-120 eXtreme CPU Heatsink
Western Digital VelociRaptor WD3000GLFS 300GB
Scythe S-FLEX SFF21E 120mm Case Fan

i would like to know also about the corsair 1000w psu fitment in the midtower

To install the power supply unit into TYR X-500 is easy, just slide the power supply unit through the opening at the rear of the case, and there are room for 180mm long power supply. If user need more space, there is a power supply extension kit.

if you have a 220mm I think you would have to remove the lower hdd rack or it may be a tight squeeze... give it a shot.. you have a better chance with it compared to the longer silverstone unit.... or just buy the extension kit

or worst comes to worse and you end up having to buy the Antec TruePower Quattro 1000W

Note from FLECOM: Do NOT hotlink images, host them yourself

So, based on the side image, if you removed the lower hard drive rack, would you then only have room for two hard drives in the bay above? Also, what does the extension kit do? Wouldn't the PSU be located in the same position?

Sorry, I am fairly ignorant on all of these things and it is my first build.

PSU Extension kit would make the PSU stick out the back of the case a little bit more.

I would first go with an extension kit before considering removing the lower hdd cage.

one could pull the floppy drive after setting up raid and use that for another hdd, and also place another inside the second 3.5" bay since I don't see many people rocking more than one optical device.

but the extension kit looks like it add's at least another 20mm ...maybe more like 40... who knows, first to get their hands on it would know... maybe ask those that reviewed the case over at hardware secrets.

hey, that would look pretty nice, maybe if it had a few more led's that would be nicer, but still looks nice.

well i loved the case in the pictures and the concept, but after having bought it I must admit i wish i hadn't. There are so many things that weren't very well thought out at all. Little shit that just adds up imo for a $300+ case...

1) Front panel wires for HD Audio too short to reach mobo pins, even takiing most direct path instead of trying to stealth it.
2) Reset button very difficult to press with using a pen or some thin object
3) Basically impossible to fasten CD-ROm drive with screws provided, unless I'm completely missing on how the cage comes out (don't think it does)
4) Sides are flimsy, and despite spending along of time getting cables clean and neat behind the mobo, they still bow the aluminum side when you put it bad on.

One thing I do love though that I wasn't sure abotu is thee side mounted cd-rom drives. It's very convenient. And to answer the questiona few posts up, yes you can have it face either way.

Glad I checked this thread again today because I was just getting ready to order the x500 from the egg. So you really would not order it again? I was going to order this instead of the Cosmos S and the Lian Li A7010.

Would you mind letting us know what PSU you are using? As noted above, I will probably just use an extender, but was just curious what you were able to fit in. If I can't fit the PSU in, and the case isn't well built, maybe I will go with the 7010. Thanks.

Well because I didn't want ot use the extender, I specifically bought a Zalman ZM750-HP (and I dont' need more than 750W PSU). It fits (normal size PS), but it is tight, and basically any modular connections i had to add after the fact required me to unscrew the PS and move it out a little bit.

And yea, for $370 , I woudl not buy again. It looks good asthetically, and there is good ventilation over the mobo area, but after havign just recently built two computers using the CM 690...I think I might have been happier just using that case for $85. And I've probably used 6-7 high end Lian-Li's in the past (I'm a case upgrade whore)....

.

This was what I was worried about when I sat and analyzed review and Egg pics for hours (window shopping!). Now that you've confirmed my concerns, in which this is a major one because my previous case - Cooler Master Cosmos had the same problem with panel closing. The lack of length of the front panel cables also seems like a deal breaker. As for the HDD cages, what's your take on them? The x2000, albeit 200 bucks more(?) seems to have the HDD sorted out but the ones in the x500 seem like last minute detail; I can already see the strands of SATA and power cables noodling everywhere.

the HD cages aren't too bad, though I'm using the one below the drive bay for my actual HD, and stuffed as many of the loose cables from the PS and fans into the other bay. I honestly don't know where you'd put all the cables if you used both cages with HD's.

Seems like cable nightmare... Guess I'll have to pass on this one : ( you'd think a company like Lian li would know better, like wtf?

My friend got this case few weeks ago.

Doesn't look cable friendly, and you lose a HD rack! boo. Thanks for the pic though.
