You could always send a bit of rain down my way, we've had less that half of our average rain fall this year, it's getting real dry around here................

was fooling around with the camera last night to see if I could get some night pics, its really hard with this camera, becuase to turn the flash off, it pics up al the shakes... but these give you an idea of what it looks like.

yeah the paint made a HUGE difference... im hoping as it dries it doesn't need a second coat, but it might, i hope if it does, to do it early, SO i can still put the WC in later in the day.

That's looking awesome. You've inspired me to start building one of my own. Forgot dad had a whole bunch of wood working equipment in the shed :p The MDF comes out way better than I thought it would. Good work :)

the MDF is really nice. The only thing is, what ever edge you cut, requires a decent sanding, other wise, it was great to work with, very smooth... i sanded the cabinet edges better than i did the WC box.. and they came out great! I really like working with MDF.

Even in the pics you can tell that you finished it a bit better, at least I can anyway...........;)

yeah, its my one regret with the WC, wish I had known the edges needed that much sanding. I still think it came out great though... and yes, it definately noticable that the edges of the cabinet came out a lot better. Live and learn. I definately like working with mdf over plywood. I need to build a custom desk for the PC, actually 2 PC's, the wife has been bugging me for months to build a place where we can set up both PC's in the same area. Problem Is the area is a weird shape, and you cant buy a desk the shape I need... so its gonna be my winter project, to build a custom computer desk to house my wifes computer and mine. So sounds like another work log to me! Actually its going to be like a 3-1 work log, My wife now wants a more "interesting" computer.. so probably new computer and WC'ing Box for her, and a Desk to house everything.

I definately will use MDF again, esp now that I am accustomed to working with it.

On a side note.. just went into the Cellar, and the cabinet isn't dry on the inside yet, 14 hours later!!! Problably becuase of the high humidity we have (9 straight days of rain will do that) and the fact its cold down there.... and i noticed a few minor drip areas, that will probably need a sand, and a light second coat...

SOOOO.... that probably means.... no WC again this weekend.... but it will mean the cabinet should be ready to go, next weekend... unless by some miracle this dries fast (i moved it upstairs and put a fan on it) and the second coat dries really fast too. Who knows.

Wells heres a little preview!

I took the next 4 without any flash, so you could kind of see the real color, the flash tends to make the cream color look white

That's going to look nice together I think........... :D
I've still got a desk to build as well, like you, it's going to be a winter project, to much to outside on my property while the weather is nice, and it's been so nice and warm so far this fall, still getting into the low 80's..............
Painting in the basement isn't the best solution, I learned the hard way, but if that's all you have, you have to do it. But I normally bring the stuff upstairs as well for finial drying.

yeah I like the way the cream and the aluminum look together, and the cabinet blends with the rest of the room as you can see, the paint is the same at the trim in the room in the back of the pics.

Yeah, in the house I have no real place but the cellar... i normally paint outside, but with ll the rain, that wasn't an option.

well, i went through with it, sanded the drippy spots, and applied a thin second coat... it really made it shine.. it really looks good now, almost professional... :)

Lastly was the wheels... got those bad boys installed, and its good to go...all thats left is to run the tubing, a leaking test, and install the blocks! Oh yeah! I can smell it now!

Ok, here are the wheels... and with the WC sitting in its final resting spot.. looks pretty good.

wheels!

Looks real good, now all you have to do is fine the time to hook everything up. But that shouldn't take all that much time....................... :D

well, did a little water color testing tonight...

here is a little mix of MDT-5, water, a few drops of Crazy PC Venom UV dye, and 1 drop of green food coloring.

A little too dark but close to the color I want.. obviously the 1 green dot of food coloring overpowered my small water sample.

The MDT-5, is a pinkish color, until you put in under the UV, then it becomes green.. I want the water to be green, even with no UV light, thus the food coloring...

Anyway here it is!

well ran into a snag.... i went to install the blocks, and got severe kinking in the hose..

not sure what I am going to do no....probably get some 1/2 inch elbow connectors if i can find some locally on a sun.. otherwise gonna have to order them online i guess!

Anyone used elbows? to they restrict flow?

Ok, well after some thought, I used some of the better hose from the external box, inside the computer, and it didn't kink at all, and I used 1 run of the thin stuff from the ext. box to the PC.

I orginally wanted to use the thinner stuff inside the PC, to give it a cleaner look, but alas, the bends we tootight, and I could not. No biggie, just had to redo some work. It all hosed now.. and tomorrow we are gonna add the water!

So lets see.....

Heres a pic inside right before i started to install the blocks.

Well thats it, its 3am, and im going to bed.

My thoughts..

The primo flex is REALLY flexible, more so than the clear-plex i got from Crazy. I wish the Primo was less cloudy, its just got a cloudiness to it, that the clear flex doesn't.

Lastly,

installation of the blocks was pretty easy. Shoot, it too me that long to just install the artic cooler.. of course I had to mod the hell out of it to get it to fit.

Aside note about the artic cooler. It was full of dust. That had to be hindering performance.. So a word to those artic cooler fans.. you might want to clean yours.

Not lets hope i installed everything right, no leaks, and some serious cooling performance!

man that looks great! its gonna be much cleaner looking that when you had air cooling! and with that very very little amount of actual tubing? since the rest of the stuff is external? wowowow

Looks very good my friend, it's good to see you up and running.
By the way, how's your temps ...........

El - thanks man. Love your work log too. The system you put together is awesome. Love the blue. I know i was amazed at how little tubing there was actually in the system... its a little over 1 foot of tubing. It gives it such a clean look, I love it.

Bio - not actually up and running yet.... still got to but in the water... using the 2nd computer for now. :)

I can tell you...

my old temps were

Now I have the 3000 Venice OC'ed to 2.5 so it not stock temps...but

At idle it ran usually around 38 C, and under full load (Folding at home) it could max out around 60 C, but normally around 55-58 C. That was my whole reason to WC, i am hoping to get that load Temp under 50C

On the 6800GT, with a min. OC, i barely tweaked it over stock, just becuase of lack of time, more than anything else.. under full load (that rthrhthththl program) i was getting 72 C stock, and then when I put on the Artic cooling it dropped to 62 C.

Being interesting to see where it all goes!

Chris

Up ans running now! After about 8 hours of no leaks, i turned her on, and gamed on her a little....

A quick little test, shes idling around 38 C, and her Load temp stays around 45-47, which is a 10 C improvement over air. But only tested for a 30 minutes.

All seems well, i will post some final #'s, and pics tomorrow!

As well as some final thoughts on some things.

good for you mane, cant wait to see more pics, and hear the thoughts / comments

Really nice setup you've got goin there. One small tiny thing that for some reason erks me though. You left the paper backing attached to the acrylic backplate for your Maze4GPU. I know....very minor nit-pick, but I can't help it. Once again, very nice CLEAN setup! Perhaps you could disconnect one of the hoses and take a picture of the ends of the quick-disconnect so we can see how much water is lost when the 2 parts of the system is seperated? I know plenty of people on here have used those quick-disconnects, but I have always wondered how much liquid is lossed durring disconnection. :)

Its funny that you say that about the maze. I tried for like 20 minutes to get that thing off, and I just couldn't get it started, and when I could, it would be the tinest little piece.. so I gave up thinking... maybe it belonged there... and it didn't help it was like 1 am, when i was trying it :) So it really DOES come off... easy fix, one day ill take it off..

Yes, ill do the disconnect thing one day this week when I get a chance. My guess is, a few drops, it seals really fast... but ill give it a whirl later in the week!

Thanks for the compliments!

Chris

I use the same quick disconnects (except the non-panel mount type) in my external setup. I was pleasantly surprised when I tried them out and discovered that only a couple small drops come out while disconnecting. Heck, I didn't even need a towel...

Very nice setup you have there bradyapba. If you really wanted to drop your temps some more, you could always add another radiator, perhaps in parallel with the one you have. Heck, you sure have enough room in the external box :).

Keep us posted!

yeah I may at some point ad a rad.. i was thinking the sane thing that one day, I may add another rad somewhere!

Hey bradyapba! Hey dude you got water flowin', sweet! I spy something in your pics I didn't see installed in your ext box - blue ccd's? How do they look in the dark?

those are not Blue CCD's... they are UV lights... I do have some Green CCD's, but didn't use them :)
