Post pics of your Antec 900

My first post, so I guess I should post my first rig. I'm in a college dorm. So I sorta have limited space for my stuff. =)

Heres what it looks like on the inside:

And heres what my set up looks like with the lights on:

And with the lights off:

Nice alienware background

Here is my 900 that I pretty much got for free in a trade off of PC parts.

An E2200 can get you:
Antec 900, LG light scribe DVD burner, Audigy 2, ATI X800 Pro AGP, WD 250GB IDE hard drive, Asus A7N8X Rev 2 mobo, AMD Barton 3000 (which fried shortly after powering it on :( ), Crucial DDR400 1GB (2 x 512), and a Celeron D 336. I made out like a bandit.

I ended up upgrading my pc in my sig and now had a Pentium D 925 (too hot of temps which is why I upgraded, 36C max on my E7200) and Intel DG965WH media board. I ended up with a second PC with a Pentium D 925, DG965WH mobo, 1GB kingston DDR800, WD 250 GB IDE, LG DVD burner from my main rig (I wanted matching drives) Nvidia 6200LE (looking for a better vid card), Audigy, Antec EW380, and an Antec 900 gamers case that I do not game on........ The 925 runs pretty cool in it though. I may end up turning it into a web server. This is also my tech bench so I have a KVM in back for customers computers.

That is my second office, everything in the house is networked and I have a main server in my office with all my data on it. In other words, its peaceful when there is a 3 y/o running and screaming around the house when I am working on my websites or something.

The blue always looks nice in pictures. In reality, the stock TriCool fans are aqua blue. The fans that came with my Silverstone CFP51 cages are a darker blue.

Also having a camera with kick ass night vision for shooting pics is not bad either. Those where shot with minimal lighting except the one with the flash on.

ahem, i think you mean, "the stock TriCool fans are CRAP" :D guess i shouldn't talk, i've still got mine in there.

i'm still not sure what i'm gonna replace them with. most of the better performing fans tend to be solid black in color, but i was hoping for something clear with no stock LEDs for the front of my case (i want all my case lighting on a rocker switches -- i know AC Ryan fans have this feature, but they seem hard to find). i'd also rather avoid sacrificing quality fans in so doing. anyone know if Apevia fans are any good?

I bought a couple of the cheap apevia blues to add in to my old case. ended up putting them in my 900 when one of my tri-cools failed. they are about the same volume wise, and I have only noticed 1-2 deg difference in temps, but that was when I added an additional fan in the hd cage.

It's been 3 weeks since any action on the A900s...

Once I have a digital camera, other than the one on my shitty phone, I will have some new pics up.

No worries, here is mine:

Q9450 @ 3.2ghz
Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R
4x2gb G.Skill DDR2-1000
EVGA 9800 GTX
2 x Samsung S203B DVDR
Velociraptor
2 x WD SE16 640gb
OCZ Vendetta HSF
Kingwin Mach 1 520w PSU

This is the best cable management I can do without drilling holes (after 4 tries of rebuilds), mobo power connector, 1 molex cable, and 1 atx cable partially hided at the back of the case.

Garage heh?....u must clean inside very often with those 3 fans pulling in the dust everytime that garage door opens :D

^ what CPU heatsink is that? i like the mounting brackets for the fans.

also, have any of you seen the supposed pics of the 4870X2? the one photoed is black; the only part of the card that's red is the fan blade assembly. this makes me very happy, because i wanted the better performance/price of a 4800 card, but i didn't want to muck up my case with a bunch of red PCBs. hopefully the final versions will still be black.

i'm starting to think about attemping to do water cooling with this case... am i crazy?

My team is in the middle of a Folding War right now, so my plans to tear down the 900 have been put off for a few weeks. I have another build starting probably next weekend, so I hope to have enough machines Folding that I can tear down the 900 and get the mods done before moving on to the 300s.

how do you guy keep your case so neat? no matter how hard I try, mine still looks like a mess

In all fairness, it does not look like you've done anything except for install everything and fastened a few zip-ties. There is enough information out there to set you up to win.

especially the thread over at the other place. Should be xtreme ly easy to find it. :)

Wow didn't think it could look more awesome then it did before, I could never figure out what HSF that was and I like how you barely notice the fan controller in the center bay haha

too bad you can't get that RHS88 black nickel plated. i found a location here in San Diego that does custom black nickel plating starting at $100, but i don't know if that's all they'd charge for Al and Cu heatsinks (haven't contacted them just yet).

if you were interested, try a google search for custom nickel plating, they tend to read your IP and give you local businesses first.

also, that clear fan in the back looks a bit out of place. maybe paint it black? or maybe just the outter mounting. i really like seeing fans with black mounting but different colored blades.

Good call. I plan on replacing the 3 fans up front, and 1 rear exhaust (shown) with these:

ENERMAX MAGMA

Aside from the better performance, they will match :D

LOL i just noticed the hibiscus sticker on the bottom left of your window

edit (well, several hours later, but it's been quiet in here today):

i've heard mixed things about Enermax... but with as many of them as there are in a 900, i don't think it'll matter :p

i've seen these awesome fans that have neon green blades, and translucent black frames. they'd look perfect in my case. but i can't remember what they're called, and it doesn't matter because when i did know, they'd stopped being made temporarily and were only available in europe anyway

instead i think i'm just gonna get some neon green apevias off newegg and spray paint the frames black

(look at the second pic to see what they look like under regular light).

oh... one more thing. we're not supposed to hot link images (post them from websites like newegg.... image shack is fine). that's why i usually just use regular links :)

you know the sad thing is my fiancee has one of these cases and i don't. how does that figure.

haha well isn't that one of the secondary points of marriage, combining resources? :D at least you know you picked a good one.

Here is my build finally. Sheesh too many problems here and there (cutting hole issues, aluminum bottom feet issues, paint issues, many more lol)

This is my first attempt at cable management and case modding. I been looking at this thread for a while now trying to see what I could do for the Antec 900 I had. This is one of the best or probably the best thread I seen for the Antec 900.

I wanted an interim build before my Silverstone TJ10 but I ended up making this build my main.
I started this build like 2 months ago, ran into problems here and there and worked on it off and on.
I was going to not paint the case but after seeing all you guys paint it, so I decided to do as well.
This was can spray painted.
Antec%20900%20Build%20Pics%20000.JPG

As you can see, it has holes cut out as well. That is another story.. LOL
I planned out the holes by drawing them out and seeing how I can cut thru using a dremel but in the end best tools are those hole punchers once you know how to use it properly.. LOL Yeah I made a mess initially with bad cuts but I ended up rounding all the edges with the dremel and cutting better circles with the Greenley hold punchers.

Well the paint didn't last long because the painted surfaces felt a bit sticky and I wasn't satisfied so I ended up powder coating the case and drive cages. I should of went with semi-gloss black or flat black but as it turned out the gloss black was fine.

Also another story is that, I wanted to put the power supply (Corsair HX620w) with the letters right side up so I ended up cutting the bottom, but in doing so I neede to remove the bottom feet. I wanted to upgrade it so I bought the aluminum feet but found a problem because with these you need to place a nut on the other side of the panel but as you can see where I wanted the feet, there is no space under the power supply. I could either place them closer to the front which didn't look too pleasing or use stock ones but not evenly placed. Anyhow I solved the problem using JB weld. I decided that I could place on nut on the bottom to screw in the screw/bolt and have it leveled even thru the hole I made below the power supply and grind off excess to even out the bottom of the panel.

Finally I got working on putting it together.

Antec%20900%20Build%20Pics%20004.JPG

Had to even the bottom so nothing would be poking the power supply from the bottom.

I know some of you reversed the hard drives and I thought of doing that but might as well show the cool connectors.

The Thermalright Extreme 120Ultra heat sink is just too big and gets in the way of putting the fan on the side. I need someone to help me create a new plexi panel so I can actually mount a 120mm fan on the side.

My 9800 GTX was having glitching issues which would not go away after even giving it a long rest and having more fans on it so it went away and came a Evga 280 GTX.

I will have to post new pics later.

Anyhow I hope you guys like it. I did go thru an ordeal to finish but I am happy other than the video issues.

Looks very nice. I like how the cables, sleeving, etc match throughout. Nicely done. After several months, I'm nearly to the point where mine will actually get started soon.

Nice work. When I get my new motherboard in (black PCB :D) I plan on that same 24-pin wire tuck action.

sleeve each wire individually FTW :D actually i'm considering sleeving those wires in groups of 4, as a compromise between the sexiness of individual sleeving and the work it takes.

Covered most of the visible parts of the case with sound deadening material. More for looks than performance. No experience painting yet and I'm still afraid.

Better shot of motherboard area. All possible cables were routed to the back of the case, even ones covered by the hard drive cages. Cages were reversed so fans are in a push-pull configuration

This is my home "server" computer that will eventually hold a total 8 hard drives by adding 4 more 1 TB WD GP drives when space is needed.

I don't like the color of some of the LEDs on the yate loon fans (some lightish blue, some close to green). I would like to replace them with the darker blue 5 mm leds. Anyone had any experience buying them off of ebay? Any specific manufacturer you've had luck with?

Please let me know what you think and if you have any suggestions for improvements.

BTW I actually know the guy who designed the outside of this case for Antec as well as all the recent Antec cases. He says he has fun working with this client.

Ive got some of my stuff together now I'm just not 100% on the holes.I got this motherboard...

dfi%20DK%20P35-T2R-S.jpg

Then after I have drilled, whats best place to start? Will I need many extensions for fans or what? Please help!

Could you explain what you did? I like to have the same arrangement as yours, but looking at the pictures, I am not understanding how you do this. It seems that you are able to mount fans in the front and back of the HD cages.

Thanks
Chris

Hi Chris,

As you can see I did not use the original hard drive cages from the Antec 900, I used the silverstone ones cuz I wanted to be able to fit 8 hard drives not just 6.
I removed the black aluminum face plates to the silverstone cages and the fans are mounted to the cages not the face plates. I reversed the cages and pushed them back as far as they would go. Each cage is mounted by only 4 screws instead of 8.
I removed the face plates (black plastic peice and the 3 grill peices) from the stock Antec 900 cages. On these cages the fan is mounted to the face plate. These face plates are also mounted by 4 screws each.
You can see from my pic below where I cut holes the size of a quarter for the sata power (custom made using sata power connectors from performance-pcs.com) and data (right angle) cables and the fan power cables were run. I did not have to cut the cages like other people did to their stock cages for wire running.
2769098661_4d1d6298cb_o.jpg

Chris you may run into space issues as everything in my box is very tight. Meaning the motherboard's 24 pin connector and pcie power connector pushes up against the back set of fan housings and the sata power and data cables touch the front fan grills. The only reason I was able to pull off this setup is because the GA-P35-DS3R is shorter in width than most motherboards.
I would post more pics but I'm not at home right now. Let me know if you need any more explaining and if you'd like pics when I can get to my machine. BTW adding hard drives is a big pain in the butt.

Hiroman_77,
Aha...I did not realized you arent using the original HD cage. Seeing what you did, I reversed my original HD cage last night. I drilled some holes so I can mounted in reverse. I really like it since now my cables are hidden like yours, but it will be a pain to try to change HD.

I thought this case is big enough, now feels like it is cramped. Maybe time to move to full size case, but I really like the 900....decision....decision....

Btw, great job on the cable management. Very clean...

Cheers
Chris

Thanks Chris, I'm glad I could contribute. I was running into the same dilemma, but since everything has fit so far, and I like the look of the 900 I think it'll work as my server for a while.
