This depends on monitors, and graphic cards' drivers. Some monitors have aspect ratio controls (such as SONY), and ATI Catalyst (for my X800 XT PE) displays correct aspect ratio according to the resolution I set it to.Also what happens when you play at non native resolution? will the games looks right?
vthee said:nope never searched for it.... just bought 4 of these monitors... i hope they are good...
thanks for the input
APOLLO said:Does anyone know how the picture quality of the SDM-P234B compares to Sony's XBRITE technology displays? I have a XBRITE notebook and love the picture quality so much, I vowed not to replace my 24" CRT desktop monitor until I found a LCD of similar size with the same picture quality as my Sony notebook.
welcomerain, welcomerain said:the sdm--p234b DOES have xbrite technology. i fail to see how the backlighting technology affects "picture quality" (highly abiguous term) other than by brightness and contrast. the panel manufacturer (assuming it's the same universal 23" lg panel) and hence the panel itself would have more bearing on picture quality.
ShePearl said:welcomerain,
Are you sure about P234B using X-Brite (some call it X-Black) ?
AFAIK, it does NOT. All SONY's P series (Professional series) does not use it.

in any case, notebook LCD/TFTs usually have a lower (superior) dot pitch which would account for their superior display qualities. it's necessary to cram as many pixels into a limited space to be efficient in a portable display for sharper contrast and higher resolution. you're probably being unrealistic as to hold out for a equally comparable LCD monitor. but then again, i can hardly discern the minute difference on high-end displays.
Woodchuck said:the sonystyle website doesn't say the SDM-P234B has XBrite technology. it says it has something called ErgoBrite.
vthee said:i just got my monitors yesterday from sonystyle at the beverly center in LA... they are awesome!!!! I like how the sony lights up... i'll post some pics... but so far they are GREAT!!!! IMHO they are better than the HP's out there... i think it just looks plain better..
I got 2 for myself... and the other 2 will go to my parents... they are still using CRT monitors...
i'll keep you guys posted!
In the fifth picture, you've posted, I see you're using D-SUB (analog) cable, rather than DVI-D ? Come on. You gotta use DVI-D for this beast. Analog coneection may still look good, but it doesn't do the monitor's justice, no where near it.wow, my monitor arrived today and i'm using it right now. while it is not as sharp as my Sony F520 CRT it is definitely very good still. some of the text fonts look a bit distorted but i'm still adjusting/calibrating mine.
Man, this model is just released in July (or June) in Japan. Anyway, can you also check, and let us know where it's manufactured (made) from ? I wonder which part of the world LG manufactured this display ? China, Maxico, Korea, or somewhere in Europe ?p.s. the manufacture date of my monitor says July 2004... nice and fresh wow.
I see. Thanks for the info.Woodchuck said:thx, ShePearl! i just checked in the back and it says made in Korea. so i'm assuming it is indeed an LG panel.
Have you tried Nokia test ? Google for Nokia test. This is not specifically for LCD display but I find it great to test for bad pixels, colour unifority, and some other aspects.anything else you want to know/test let me know. i went to try those test utilities at MonitorsDirect.com but they didn't work. apparently they couldn't detect correctly what my native screen resolution was..

A couple advantages I've noticed with the HP is that its cheaper, PiP, and hdtv.

i want one so bad.
APOLLO said:Woodchuck,
Thanks for the pics. Beautiful monitor...
The pics confirmed that the SDM-P234B doesn't use the XBRITE technology. XBRITE tech displays have a glossy surface, which some dislike because of increased reflection. Personally, I am sold on this technology. Does anyone know if SONY will release a 23" display with XBRITE?
