Simple. They can't afford to lose data. Lost data is lost money. That's a benefit of RAID 1, not RAID 0. RAID 1 does NOT give a speed increase. It was never designed to. He was arguing that RAID provides a speed increase therefore he must be using RAID 0. RAID 0 IS faster than non RAID 0 raptors but in games the difference is negligible. Not enough sustained sequential data transfers when you're gaming or web surfing.

I guess I have to say it again. He said "RAID Systems". NOT "RAID 0 systems".
Everyone knows huge businesses use RAID 5 (or 0+1) almost exclusively, so I would only assume that's what he would be referring to. Only a fool would think big businesses use any kind of storage that doesn't have redundancy.

I don't think anyone here needs schooling on what the different RAID levels do, either.

The POINT is, big business wouldn't be using RAID systems unless there was a speed benefit, WHICH THERE IS with RAID 5 and RAID 0 + 1.

Man,

I came in here looking for a good deal on a 36GB Raptor and I left feelin' violated.
