With my old soundblaster it would mute my mic everytime I started up COD. So try alt/tabbing out of game and check windows sound settings and see if its muted.
what about the ASUS P5N-T Deluxe 780i SLI or is your on a budget the ASUS P5N-D 750i SLI is a nice board. I would go with a newer chipset like these so you don't have issues.

I have the Zerotherm Nirvana on my E6600 @ 3.6 and it cools it 10to12*C better than my Zalman 9500. with the Zalman it use to idle at 39 to 41* and hit in the low 50s at load, now it idles around 27 to 30 and never sees above 42. Just a thought.

1680x1050 and it is very playable. given there are times where you get a quick lag but for the most part it is runs nicely. wouldn't believe it myself if I haven't seen it first hand. I also run Cuban's Custom Crysis Configs and for some reason it makes the game run better...don't ask me how...
It would be over kill for BF2 that's what I meant by "FUTURE PROOF" like maybe a new game...BF2 is pretty old ya know. Plus I figured he paid around 250 for that 7900 when he first bought the card and I was thinking in that price range. Wow so quick to call BS b4 you consider all the facts...
I would go with 2 Palit 8800GT Super 1GB cards and be happy:) You can find them for around $265 online. I am soo happy with the performance I got out of mine I am getting a second one next week! I can play Crysis on high and 8x AA with decent fps.
