I'm not scared of them. I went the water cooling route a few years ago. They're just more expensive and sometimes not worth the hassle. I'll have to think about it for a bit.
Good catch, I didn't notice that the case came with the fans. I'll take a look at the other video cards. Actually, not getting the slipstream fans saves me like $30 so I'll upgrade to a 6850. Is there a HSF that's all the rage today?
1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
Mostly web browsing. I will want to play Diablo 3 whenever that comes out though. I'm in IT, so I'll tinker with things, but I also have an ESX box at home for most of that.
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping...
How is it even possible to screw up putting screws in? Is there another assembler you would recommend? If it's going to cost me more than $100 to have it built, I'd rather do it myself.
My old desktop finally bit the dust and I guess it's time to move on. I've been out of the desktop space for years now so I'm a little unfamiliar with whats out there right now. I'm actually going to buy a built PC (I know *gasp*).

I'm looking for a laptop, I'm not really looking to game with it although a halfway decent video card would be nice. I think I've narrowed it down to the HP dv4t (9200) and the Dell XPS M1330 (8400). Any comments?
I don't need another monitor, I figured if it was an easy project it might be nice to have another smaller LCD around, but its not sounding like its so easy
I have an old junk laptop that wont turn on anymore but the screen still works. How tough would the laptop screen apart and use it as a monitor? I'm guessing there are just a few wires that correspond to a VGA plug? Could I just get a ac/dc converter from radio shack to power it?
The school I go to, Rochester Institute of Technology, has a Networking and Systems Administration major...you might want to look into some other schools if you're specifically looking for an administration degree.
As far as math goes, I only had to take discrete 1 and 2
