i had about the same but with 2TB drives and the 9260-8i and no bbu. but i did have a ups. obviously my dataset was smaller so YMMV but i had no issues at all. just took a bit.
i did mine "online" while booted into my windows server as opposed to the web-bios of the card
you going to bench them on a raid card or softraid? looks liek you will have fun regardless
on a side note, how did you like the marietta microcenter? lol
i have 8 of the 2tb hd204ui in raid 6 on a lsi 9260-8i. running like a champ with no issues whatsoever as of yet..*knock on wood*. they usually are pretty cheap too
i tested out the rebuilding and OCE functions as well as migrating from raid5 to raid6 to see how it all worked with my 8xhd204ui. worked perfectly and was easy to do once you know what to do. i could post some benches later tonight once i get off work in a couple hours if you would like to see...

i can also say that the asus rt-n16 is a good option. i have it running with dd-wrt mega build. easy to get that setup. i have a media server hooked up via gigE and constantly get bout ~110-115mB/s transfers.
as stated before since you already have a switch, no need to spend more for an 8 port...
are you trying to install 2008r2 to the raid itself? if so i cant help on that as i dont know.
i used to have this same exact card and when i booted up the server, it would show a prompt or key combination to get into its bios. as for setting up the raid, you can do that within the OS with the...
ouch man i really do feel your pain, happened to me not so long ago :(
i ended up building myself a server with a LSI 9260-8i with 8x2TB in raid 6.
i really do recommend you do NOT skimp on the raid controller or the whole setup as you will regret it later.
Im loving my lsi card so far though...
