OpenSolaris derived ZFS NAS/ SAN (OmniOS, OpenIndiana, Solaris and napp-it)

I've always heard that you can mount a hard drive in any orientation, just once you choose an orientation, it should stay that way for the rest of its life. This is because the motor bearings may wear slightly over time, settle in and stay functioning, but if you change the orientation, they...

OpenSolaris derived ZFS NAS/ SAN (OmniOS, OpenIndiana, Solaris and napp-it)

I seemed to have resolved the issue, and it was because of the .hal-mtab-lock file and the fact that I chose media and /media as my pool. HAL uses /media for it's auto mounting of devices, so it was creating /media on boot with .hal-mtab-lock. I don't need auto mounting of any devices, so I've...

OpenSolaris derived ZFS NAS/ SAN (OmniOS, OpenIndiana, Solaris and napp-it)

This is a fresh default install of OpenIndiana with nothing else enabled or installed besides Napp-it. The...

OpenSolaris derived ZFS NAS/ SAN (OmniOS, OpenIndiana, Solaris and napp-it)

Hi all, long time lurker in this thread, finally finished reading all 130 pages yesterday! I've been running NexentaCore as a home media and VM storage server for about a year and a half with napp-it and great success and all the performance I need. My OS disk decided to die last week and I...

OpenSolaris derived ZFS NAS/ SAN (OmniOS, OpenIndiana, Solaris and napp-it)

I'm using a AOC-USAS-L8I and it works like a champ under Nexenta 3.0.1 Core with nappit. I have it in the x16 slot of a Gigabyte motherboard, 4x1TB and 4x2TB attached to it with no issues. I went with it specifically because this is for a home setup and was significantly cheaper than other...

Nope, they're fixed size 14"x14" mesh squares. All you can do is change the number of shelves.

Thanks :) I actually got it as a grad present a couple years ago after high school, don't know where they got it. sorry :( it is a really neat shelf system though, you can make them into different configurations. I actually had it stacked one higher until I brought the VCR (using as a tuner...

My desk: My tower behind the monitors from the other pics: The tower of power! :D:D And what it creates... Call of Duty 2 in 1080i on a 90" screen. Don't mind the poor quality of the low light shots, my camera suxors. It really does look beautiful in person :)

    Cable box for a projector

That does look hot, maybe some time in the future. For now, the projector's gonna suck up all my money, so I'll just stick to the VCR I have.
