maddude0025; nop, you can install vista then xp
dbwillis; to install xp... i would somehow have to clear the partition where vista is installed now... and run the install... and install xp... too much thinking... just missing something.. a coworker tried running this software i want to run...
I've been trying to get xp installed on a second partition from a pre-existing vista installation. It's installed on an lenovo X61s with no cd/dvd-rom drive. I do not have access to a cd/dvd drive via usb or docking bay, and want to get this working without if i can. I do have a usb floppy i...
It's a hardware raid too.
Adaptec 39320A-R i beleive..
From what I understand.. theres 320Mbit for each channel.. if i had enough disks on the one channel to saturate that channel, then i should go to the second channel.
Hi hi everbody,
I have a configuration of a dual channel SCSI card in my system now, because I thought I would need different channels for the seperate drives much like in IDE. I have been running on 4 9.1GB scsi disks for the past year, and now i'm going to be upgrading cuz 40gb is not...
Though, I have in the past found that when a hard drive fills over 80% the speed seems to slow... slow access times, slower read times.. but i'm sure it's the fragmentation.
There may be no direct correlation between space available on the drive and speed, but indirect, with other factors, yes.
I wouldn't bother. To read off tape drives, you have to spin up the device, and then stream it to a computer before you can begin to read the data. Backup libraries were created to do backups, not have regular consecutive reads for data access. That's what hard drives are for. Tape drives...
Lest you guys forget, a DLT or LTO tape is about 4X the width of a DVD-RAM disk.. or DVD-R (in a datacenter environment they use cases for the disks). So for space issues, they store 4x the data.
Big companies such as IBM are looking at the amount of data that can be stored per square...
That whole NTFS thing that somebody brought up earlier - would only be an issue if you didn't copy the data to another medium before you had formatted. If you were to keep your 30gb partition for windows and re-install *nix on it, you would be able to read NTFS partitions still, but write...
THANK YOU FOR THIS ARTICLE Brent & Kyle
We have had many articles about this gpu/vpu or that cpu and heard so much bs about DC systems. What I read confirmed what I have been thinking in my head for the past year. DC systems are there for multitasking, DC doesn't have much effect on current...
Thanks for the correction - I wasn't 100% sure if you could say put 15 drives on a 16 cable and not require a terminator. (Thought they said at my school you could  )
I'll be back.
Yeah.. well they have been running quite well for old drives! I went with SCSI mainly for the faster seek times, load speed (not a HUGE factor), low cpu usage. And I have been VERY pleased with them. I have been burning dvd's.. downloading like 10 torrents... having like 10 apps open and like...
Update: There are no updates. Will be moving soon, getting a new job, getting a car. No time for computers right now. *sigh* There won't be any updates till I move into the new place. This thread is now going into a submission possibly of several months  :o
This is the first time I have enjoyed a review, as it pertains more to my experience.
I really enjoyed the 16X10 benchmarking - showed me some real world info about running games on the monitor I use, and pointed out the facts to the end users regarding widescreen. It is the future (well for...
Like Czar said.
Plus - if your lookin for answers, you gotta give some to get some.
If you have poor airflow in the case, and none of it is going past the drive (other than the one fan) well then the fan could be circulating recycled air, which only gets warmer and warmer as it keeps...
I'll be able to fit 14 drives in it with the upcoming configuration. If I get a supermicro drive cage so I can fit more drives in the 5 1/4 slots i'll be able to put another 4 drives in there!
I can say this from personal experience. Don't buy the BYTECC ME-320U2F. I experienced nothing but problems with it. Every time I would burn a disk, the first one would get FUBARD. I tried changing drivers all over the place, nothing helped. When I had to remove the dvd-burner, I totally...
That is running a bit high. When you say "near"... how "near" ? Blowing ON the drives? or beside them? Back in the day, when 7,200 rpm drives came out (read new on the market) - they always reccomended you have a fan blowing on them. Nowadays, they should be alright. Unless you have almost...
All good stuffs. I was in grade 9 when I first started fiddling around with my computers & in grade 10 when I built my first.
It was a nice, of course now it's only fit for a linux server:
Celery 466 (OC'd it - was a learning experience)
ABIT BX6 R2 (later BF6 - after I fried the bios...
heh, sure
2x 80mm LED (estimate 2,600rpm)
2x 80mm (1 right now - pretty sure will be modding the case to add second) (estimate 2,600rpm - i should put in my 80mm delta there LOL!!!!)
1x 120mm (1,500rpm, 0.08 Amp)
NForce2 Mobo (nf7-s 2.0), 1 stick ram, pci graphics card, 2 controller...
Yep - I used to go to the Doc to get my warts frozen off with Liquid Nitrogen. He had this cool gun with a small tank & a large canister where he stored all the nitrogen. It damned HURT. But as they all said - No damage to your mobo. I've used the stuff. Heard it's bad to breathe in...
That's awesome!!
In my grade7 class I made a crane out of 1/2 x 1/2 pine - with all the cross pieces and everything. Was like 3' high & 3' across Figured it out... 3074.841 grams X 2.. 13.5 lbs Could pick up these two solid hunks of steel... heavy suckers... about as much as a large shot-put...
If I were you, I would try... any computer shop
Any computer shop i've gone looking for them, has had them.
http://froogle.google.com/froogle?q=ide+y+power+splitter&btnG=Search+Froogle
It's just an IDE power splitter ... 1 Male end, 2 female ends.
It's not a licence to go crazy...
Well I splurged and bought a 620W Enermax Liberty PS - I haven't booted the system to see if it recognizes both cards during boot... but I'm not too sure If it will. Any body have any reccomendations for 6 channel IDE cards?? Staggered spin-up would be nice... but I my new PS should be able to...
Somehow I doubt that a 350W power supply will do it. I have bought an Enermax Liberty 620W power supply. 80% max draw on Watts & Amps is the most I want to put my system through.
Case Log Update #2
Ok, well I forgot to pick up some sandpaper, but I did put in an order for a nice new Enermax Power supply. It should provide enough power for more than 12 drives (not many more), even though I only have 11 ATM. Liberty 620W. Picked up the package today :)
Along with...
Does the Antec P180 count? It has drive rails... From manufacturer to manufacturer the rail sizes may change...
Says here "Compatible with ATX case with 3 x 5.25 drive bays." - And the product code is STB-3T4-E1.
It's Monday now... Update :D ?
Ok, well now that I've been told....
I have thought about what you've said. I saw the PF numbers in the task manager before, and it didn't always seem to add up. My system wouldn't always be accessing the HD when there was data in the PF, but when I first played the alpha Doom 3, and...
I must agree with ScHpAnKy completely - unless you play games where you know you have times in-game where it loads alot of stuff off the hard drive - and this would deteriorate from the game-playing experience. WoW is a good example.
