Just found out Open Office can be used with Vista, which is sweet. The only problem is that I want a program like Outlook. If Open Office offered that, I'd be all over it.
I keep hearing that the X-Fi drivers for Vista are not good at this moment. Is it really that bad where the audio experience is crippled compared to that on XP?
This is the only thing that is keeping me from upgrading to Vista. If anyone could give me their impressions, I'd appreciate it.
I've placed an order for an evga 8800gtx at ZZF. I like the x1900xtx, but I've been wanting to play oblivion at a smooth framerate which a x1900xtx does not do well. I still might cancel though since Oblivion doesn't seem reason enough to upgrade to an 8800gtx even though I know other games will...
There's two annoying problems though. If you notice while playing, there is vertical banding. Also, the Xbox 360 image is being stretched. It's ouputting in full screen a 16:9 image. That means there is some anamorphic distortion since the NEC 20wmgx2 is a 16:10. The Xbox 360 does not support a...
You can set the aspect ratio. I have my Xbox360 hooked up this monitor via component connection and it keeps the 16:9 aspect ratio. You can set the aspect ration when in component video (normal, wide, 1:1, full). I keep it on normal which stretches the image while keeping the 16:9 aspect ratio.
Actually, I am mistaken if the Samsung 215tw does 720p via component. I guess that makes it another good solution assuming it keeps the 16:9 aspect ratio.
I'd still be hesistant to buy the Samsung considering it uses the same panel that is on the Gateway and I was not impressed with the Gateway.
Yes, I know from first hand experience. I bought the Gateway 2185 in December and it had a very dark output in component. Even if I adjusted the brightness to maximum, it was still too dark. That's not even including the fact the monitor uses a PVA panel so it already has the inhernet flaw that...
NEC Multisync 20WMGX2 blows all those monitors away. The component output on this monitor is great with my Xbox 360. The component connection on this sucker supports 720p and 1080i. I use 720p.
For those other monitors:
Gateway 2185 - too dark
Dell 2405- input lag and 1080i (some have...
Trust me, I just got the NEC Multisync 20WMGX2. It's a 20inch widescreen monitor that has a native resolution of 1680x1050 and double as a TV. I have the Xbox 360 hooked up to it's component connection and it looks awesome. I can recommend this monitor without hesitation.
I've had the Gateway...
Yea, I bought the NEC 20WMGX2! I'll be posting pics sometime this week. I'll have the Xbox360 hooked up to the component connection which should be an awesome experience with this monitor. This is the monitor I should've bought from the beginning. I've owned the Gateway 2185, Dell...
I know what you wrote and I still don't think it's a dumb decision. If he's going to sell his cards, NOW is the time to do it. As soon as the 7900 series of cards are out, then the 7800 series of cards are going to be worth less.
What this means is that somebody out there will be willing to...
That dell machine doesn't do the X1900XT justice. They should've tested it on an AMD X2 system with the same video card. I bet it would run alot better.
Basing Oblivion's performance on what framerate you get on Morrowind is a horrible comparison. Morrowind is one of the most horribly coded graphic engines on the PC.
Oblivion should run at full detail and at 30fps on your rig if not above. If it runs in the teens, then the devs were lying...
What you people complaining about Xbox 360's graphic don't realize is that all the games released had minimal time with the final development kits. That means all these games don't even use 50% of the systems capabilities. When Fight Night Round 3 and other games in March come out, you PC only...
Drooling over what. A number on a synthetic benchmark when they can't even use that rig for 24/7 computer use like gaming, work etc...
Show me a rig that is overclocked and can be used at those overclocked settings 24/7 and then I'll be impressed.
Not a good decision. It's a mistake to sell a game machine that plays games that look better than what any high end computer can produce now and will only look better when developers fully utilize the system's capabilities. Even with the 7800gtx, your system will still be vastly inferior to the...
Perfect Dark Zero looks OK. You need to make sure you have the game's brightness setting set to "LCD". PDZ looks the best on that setting.
I have the 2005fpw hooked up to my Xbox using Monster video cables. I set the res to 1280x768. The monitor settings are aspect scaling mode, 20...
Yes, I own COD2 on the PC. I know from first hand experience. I've tested with FRAPs and with my own eyes. It gets choppy. COD2 on the PC is an example of piss poor optimization.
I can see waiting until the G71 comes out, but waiting until the G80 or R600 is not a good solution IMO. I want to use my x2 4400+ to its max potential.
Exactly. The 7800GTX is a very good card, but games such as Fear and COD2 run slow on it. I think alot of it is attributed to lazy developers who don't take pride in optimizing their game engines. Also, I don't think another 7800GTX is a solution because it's not that much cheaper than a x1900xt...
I'm so tempted to get an x1900xt. I have a dell 2005fpw and want to run games like FEAR and NFS:MW at the native resolution. Not to mention that the COD2 does not run well on a single 7800gtx 256mb. My current system is:
x2 4400+
Asus A8N-SLI Premium
2GB TwinX Corsair RAM
EVGA 7800GTX...
The same thing has been happening for other people with X-fi cards. Check out the Creative Labs forums and you'll see some threads talking about BF2 and the performance drop.
Interesting, I've checked my 2005fpw with the Monster vga cables and I still don't see any video noise.
MS is supposed to release a big update for the Xbox360 dashboard etc... which includes new options. I hope one of these options or fixes they include is solving the vga brightness problem...
