I played the beta a lot, but I just couldn't stand that engine, even when I was getting high fps after unlocking the fps cap, the game still felt bad. I have been thinking about trying it again though since they have patched it up a bit, but you can't really fix that engine.

bump To answer your question, the online accout works perfectly fine (no punkbuster bans or anything like that). As to how it compares to BF2 and such, I would say they are pretty similar, although ETQW is faster paced and has a little more "deathmatchy" feel than bf2.
