I bought a Cinema Display a couple weeks ago. With the rumors of the new Cinema Display coming any day, does anyone know what Apple's policy is if you've made a recent purchase of a new product? I thought I remembered that they would give you a rebate, or opportunity to trade it in, but I...
Hey, it's been a while since I did a system build (Apple convert), let alone a server build. I've been running two separate Linux/Windows servers at my home for few years. Recently I've made my mission to lower our power usage and my first victims are going to be those servers, so I'm looking...
I'm wondering if anyone knows when iLife '11 will show up in the non-Apple retail stores. The closest Apple store is 2 hours in either direction. We just had a baby today, so was actually hoping to grab iLife and take advantage of those letterpress cards. A 2 hour drive is kind-of out of the...
Was walking around the local Target store last night and ran into a friend browsing the movies. He said "Hey, do you know anything about the Logitech Harmony remotes?" Went over to look at them and they were the Harmony 610 series, marked from $70 down to $50, in the clearance section of the...
A long while ago, let's say 15-20 years ago, I remember getting a kids magazine and some issues had BASIC programs on the back. You could supposedly type out the script provided and run some game or whatever the goal was (I never got them to run). From what I remember, everything else inside...
I picked up ODST the other day. Since it pretty much comes with all or more of the multiplayer from Halo 3, is there any reason to keep the original Halo 3 disks? I haven't played the singleplayer in months, maybe over a year. I'm thinking I can trade it in for some credit at the local used...
I'm upgrading a computer I put together a few years back. It's has an Asus A7V8X-X motherboard. I'm adding a Western Digital EIDE 500gb drive to it (upgrading from a dying 120gb).
I updated the bios of the mobo with the latest non-beta release, 1013 from 2004.
So, I installed the drive...
Hey all, I'm building my first HTPC from parts some my buds got together for me.
So the system I have right now is:
VIA Mini-ITX w/ integrated 1.3ghz CPU
Integrated graphics
512MB Ram

So right now I'm playing with Mythbuntu. Granted, I've played...
I'm making a Flash/AIR app (it will operate on the persons local machine, instead of through a browser) that will integrate with some server-side code. The client basically needs to login, and retrieve data from the server for that client only. Simple stuff.
But, how do I do that securely...
I just picked up the Firefly DVD set at my local target for $17.99. They were running a bit low, the display out front was empty, but they had some in the isle. The price isn't reflected on their website. Been waiting for the price to drop on that to pick it up, about time again.
Hey, I'm thinking about doing this for various reasons, a little experimental a little practical. What I want to do is go through a webpage, before it gets to the browser, and replace all the urls with a different url. I guess it'd be pretty much a proxy, but not all the urls get rewritten...
I have a client that wants to move their existing website to my company's server (we have a dedicated server for our clients). In addition to a new website design and the hosting, they currently broadcast a streaming audio file of christian music, which they want us to host also. The problem...
Has anyone setup up osCommerce to work just with PayPal as their payment gateway, using either the PayPal Website Payments Pro, or Payflow Gateway? As in, not just "pay with PayPal" but paying with credit card on the osCommerce site. I was wondering if there was a osCommerce module that is...
I got the Logitech MX Revolution a week or so ago and it seems to lag out every once in a while. I'll just be moving my mouse across the screen and it will stop for a couple secs, then catch up. Same with scrolling, or clicking. I can't really narrow it down to when the computer is busy or...
I'm looking for a good program that keeps track of files I have backed up. I currently have a fileserver with a RAID solution that I push files to from my laptop nightly. Every 3 months I burn everything to DVDs. I'd like to find some software that catalogs the files, so if I want to find a...
Take a look at this site: http://longandassociates.interactive-id.com/index.html (in development), specifically the top menu (in gray). I had it working nicely using a an unordered list and CSS, but it uses a custom content manager and the client added a page. The page didn't fit on the menu...
I'm thinking of building a few computers for some people in my town, mostly grandparents, retirees, etc that want a computer to browse the net, do some word processing and a little more. What would be some suggestions on hardware that's cheap and reliable, including monitor, keyboard, all that...
I'm working on a friend of mine's computer. During a storm a few days ago his house lost power for a second. The computer shutoff and immediately came back on. Since then, when it boots up it comes to the Windows safe mode screen - "Your computer did not shut down properly, please choose from...
I'm trying to setup my local webserver to accept incoming mail. After a few hours, I got Postfix setup relay to my ISPs SMTP server to send mail out, but what do I need to do to set it up so I can send email TO my server? I have a dynamic DNS service setup through no-ip.org, but far as I know...
I have a linux test webserver at home, as well as a Windows fileserver. I was wanting something where if need be, I could shut down those computers remotely. Optimally, with my cell phone by sending an email to maybe the webserver.
Anyone know how I could setup a mailserver to parse through...
I'm pretty new to having a Linux machine at home. I'm trying to learn as I go, setting up a local test webserver. I have Samba setup so I can just share my public_html folder over my Windows network, and can modify files without FTP. So I use my regular username/password to use Samba, when...
I'm looking at replacing an old on-board RAID controller with a PCI one. I just want a RAID 1 Mirror array setup. I was looking at Newegg's selection and trying to figure out the best to get and came along a few sub $50 ones. As far as I can tell, they all use the Silicon Image 680 chip, but...
A friend of mine was telling me about Visual Studio Express, but didn't know to much about it. It's free, available on msdn.com and looks like it does most whatever you need to do.
I'm a web designer/developer, designer mostly. Most of my development has been PHP, but now I'm wanting to learn...
I'm kinda new to having a linx box around the house, but I wanted something to learn linux on so I scrounged up some spare parts and put one together and fired up Ubuntu on it.
Right now I have a Windows machine that doubles as my wife's computer and a fileserver. On that machine I have...
I was thinking of getting a 360 controller. Just wondering if you can use it as a mouse in Windows or other programs. Don't ask me why I'm asking... just curious.
My company currently has a dedicated webserver, hosting about 150 clients. We use cPanel WHM + SSH to manage the server. It has the standard cPanel install with PHP4. Since cPanel doesn't officially support PHP5, we'd like to install it ourselves, but keep all our clients happy and keep PHP4...
I'm working on this site and I can't get the CSS to validate. The HTML validates fine as HTML4.01 . On the CSS side though, W3C says I don't have a valid document parse tree and to make sure my HTML is valid. There's nothing too out of the ordinary on the CSS, stuff that I've used plenty...
Hey, just trying to see if this is proper or not. Is it okay to wrap image tags with header tags, like an h1 tag? The reason being is tha that the image is a title of a section, or a page, and if images are turned off the browser will still render the header tag on the alt tag.
But then again...
I found this keyboard when looking at the Evoluent mouse (the one that's on it's side). I thought it was a great idea. Before I had my laptop, I was always frustrated that the keypad was in the way of the mouse. Anyway, linky: http://www.evoluent.com/kb1.html
Forgive me if it's very very old...
In developing websites, as I understand, just about anything that collects personal information needs to have a privacy policy. Also, just about every commercial website needs a terms of use statement. But, I can't see going to a lawyer to write up a new policy for every single website...
I have a server running with the cPanel WebHost Manager. I'm hosting about 150 sites on it for now, but I'm going through and cleaning out old users and so forth. But, I created a few sites a while ago, creating a new user at the same time. Their sites have been removed since then, but their...

I work from home and my two business partners work in another home office. We have two printers set up, one is a HP all-in-one and the other is a Samsung laser printer. The HP is connected directly to the network, it has a print server (I think) included on the printer. The Samsung is...
*Disclaimer: This is a just a primer on the basics of starting a website and of what youll face when starting a website. Its not comprehensive, theres much more that I didnt cover and of course there are other views and opinions on most of the items below. Im just putting this together to...

This weekend I finally set up my fileserver here at home. I setup a RAID mirroring array using 2 120gb Seagates and a no-name Silicon Image 680 raid card. Last night I noticed some data corruption going on with some largish files and Windows notified me of some data corruption on some of the...
I was upgrading my fileserver this weekend and did something very clumsy. I had the PSU cable to the motherboard shorted so that the PSU would power up without having the computer on and I was rearranging some of the plugs. On one of the hard drives I accidently put the power plug in crooked...
