Tried that, still no go. Wish I had another computer to try it in. Probably not worth downgrading the bios in the motherboard to try it again that way.
I have an interesting problem. I've been using an MSI 6950 2GB that was flashed with a 6970 bios since I first got it almost a year ago. I recently upgraded my motherboard and CPU. The video card worked fine initially but after updating my motherboard bios to the latest version I get no video...
What I like about Corsair is pretty simple. Everything I have bought from them over the years has been high quality and is still working. Most dependable components in my builds.
The lack of openness is my only concern. Is the whole game going to be like the starting areas? I'm just not getting that sense of exploration like in WOW, EQ, or DAOC (the only MMO's I've played). In fact, it feels very similar to KOTR, almost on rails.
It might not be an option for you but this was my solution.
I put the HTPC on a shelf in the basement below the TV then just ran HDMI and a USB cables through the floor. Attached my IR receiver and external drive and that was it.
I have two Vista Ultimate SP1 32bit machines networked with a gigabyte switch, cat6, etc. File transfers from PC1 to PC2 go at 50-60MB's/sec. If I try and do the opposite, PC2 to PC1, I will only get transfers at 14-15MB's/sec. This makes no sense.
I think I made it about 1/3 of the way through before I called it quits. I picked it up because I was a huge fan of XII. I'm pretty disappointed in the selection of serious RPG's for the DS. It seems that the DS gets the kiddie titles and the serious titles go to the PSP. I haven't tried the...
It is impossible to run 1366x768. What you want to try to do is get the TV to not scale the image. For example, on my Sony, it runs 1360x768 and just cuts off three rows of pixels on each side.
Another good deal, if you don't already have a sony card, is getting it from sonystyle.com. I grabbed a 40gig for $432 shipped, 0% interest for a year and $100 credit on your first bill. Plus, I think you get enough reward points for an extra controller (though you'll have to wait a few months...
I have the need to test a large number of laptops for hardware problems. Only hardware needs to be tested because they will all be re imaged if they are working. The two programs I have heard about are micro2000 and PC-Check. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with either of these...
How much ventilation is there for the TV? If it's going into a niche in the wall and there isn't enough space for air to circulate, plasmas will have more problems than lcd's since they get much hotter.
The machine I'm playing it on is a A64 3200+ with 1GB of ram and a 6600GT. I currently run vista media center on it. The video is x264, I use the FFDShow codec for audio and video. I don't use any type of post processing, as that would murder my machine. I would get one of the new 8600...
I've done a bit of searching around but have not been able to find a program that does this easily. My media center cannot play 1080 files without dropping frames, and as I only have a 720P TV, I won't be missing out on anything by resizing the files. If anyone has any experience doing this...
I know it's about $80 over your budget, but you may want to consider just getting the high end logitech Z-5500 and skipping the sound card. If your onboard audio has coax or 5.1 you can plug directly into these and get true 5.1 (they have a dolby digital and dts decoder). Onboard sound is...
I've never used my movies, but thought you might find this interesting. It allows changing of mkv streams via your media center remote interface. It also allows ff/rw. It only works for vista media center, but if you plan on playing alot of mkv/xvid, it's pretty nice.

I had the same problem. When I initially build my media center, I was planning on using it to record SDTV and playback xvids of movies. I tried numerous tuner cards (happauge, ati, etc) but the picture quality never came close to what I saw when I plugged the cable right into the TV. I had...
Considering all the fun I'm having, and that I'll most likely need to buy an X-FI if I want eax....I'm thinking about dropping the Vista experiment for now.
As an update, I'm only able to achieve the same overclock with considerably more voltage. To get a stable 350 on XP I only needed 1.325v, on Vista, I need over 1.4v. I've set up a dual boot and have isolated it to the operating system.
You should be able to cobble something together from the parts listed here.

I've had my below system running at a 350 FSB since I bought it with no problems. I recently upgraded to vista, and can't get the fsb over 315. Has anyone had any similar experiences? I'm running 32bit btw.
There is a new yamaha receiver that has a feature which is supposed to improve MP3 quality. Might want to check it out. I've found that Klipsch speakers go very well with yamaha. They would also work well with rap/hip hop music. Not sure how much you want to spend, but you can get a 5.1...
I've had a HTPC for a few years. I initially used it to do all my TV recording, as I just had standard cable. It was also handy for playing back DIVX and MP3. Since I got an HDTV, I stopped using it to record TV. Even the picture quality for standard def recording doesent compare to the...
Well, mine is on a shelf in the basement just below the TV. I have the DVD drive in a USB enclosure and the IR sensor is almost hidden on the tv stand. I'm particular about things being quiet when I watch movies, so for me, this was the best way to do it. I was able to use existing computer...
My understanding of the current EULA is that you can install either, at any time. So if you install the 32 bit, then decide to reformat and install the 64 bit at some later date, as long as it is on the same computer, you are ok legally. But, installing both as a dual boot would not be allowed...
