You can use HDMI to DVI, or on the 2209WA you can set it to YPrPb mode and use a component-to-VGA adapter.

badcaps, to clarify... There is no "intelligent" setting on this monitor for magicbright. There are custom, text, game, sport, movie, internet, and DC modes. When I said I was using the brightness/contrast settings you referred to, I was doing it in "custom" mode.
