When you get down to the basics of why life works, we know astonishingly little. Most of biochemistry is based on predicting activity based on what's been observed, not knowing why. The simulations done with the folding project are bringing the understanding to a lower level. Take this...

I've been considering a 4p rig for a while now as well.
I mined until early December when I started having machine issues. Back up at half speed. I used a good chunk of my stash to buy gift cards for Xmas at about $3.
Kardon or anybody else who has downsized, you got any x16-x16 patch cables laying around you need to get rid of? I'm getting a spotswood case and need 2 or 3.
This is nothing like what some of you guys are rocking, but I like it. The goal is to utilize a small amount of floor space as the room I'm working with is not all that big. Yes, that is my center channel on the second shelf, off center. All the audio parts are left over from college. Polk...
Maybe the 6 slots close to the edge are all for one CPU and the 6 slots inboard are all for the other. Just because slots are surrounding a socket doesn't mean they are associated with it. Trace lengths are still pretty short.
My rig is keeping the furnace off for now. I have considered trying to sell my 2 mining cards for BTC. I'm just not sure anyone would be in the market for hardware right now.
I've also switched back to BTCGuild from SC.US. Slowly plodding away. I spent a few BTC at amazon a couple weeks ago. Managed to hit a high point at $6.08 on spendbitcoins.com. I might save up some and try to get a Kindle Fire for Christmas.
My OS is on a 40GB Kingston SSD which is small enough to be an annoyance with Vista Business. I've considered upgrading eventually but so far it's been easy enough to work around. Less trouble than re-installing at least.
That's what I'm doing, Evil J. I have SMP folding on my AMD hex core(5 cores) and then have the remaining core devoted to supporting the mining GPUs. I think there is a little interaction but it's minimal.
On a more awesome note, SC.US just mined a block!
Check out DSee's 4P system he is selling in the DC for sale area. He wants $1800 for it, but you might be able to let go of something else to up your budget and get more overall performance. That system also gives you an upgrade path to Bulldozer in case 200k ppd just doesn't suit anymore.
Last time I moved one of my 2 miners back to BTCguild we had a block and another 3 hours later on SC.US. I Think I might do it again. I keep checking and finding nothing is agonizing. I guess my psyche needs to see results more frequently. Either way I need to stick with one strategy and...
I guess I'm spoiled but Nxdifficulty blocks make flogge a sad panda. It's gonna drive me to drinkin. Speaking of which anyone heard of "The Beast" Grand Cru from Avery Brewery in Colorado? My buddie's bar got some and they are asking $15/bottle.
Simplecoin be kicking the asses. If things continue thus I'll be jumping on the next Spotswood order and splitting my mining rig and my HTPC. Right now I have a profile saved that knocks my clock speed on my 2 6970s down to about 500 so the fans aren't running full blast if I want to watch a...
I started a thread a few years ago suggesting 230V power for the big farms. At the time SMP was just taking hold and GPUs were brand new. Nobody was building the mega-rigs like what is out there today. At the time it was impractical, but nowadays I think some appreciable gains can be had if...
I just bought some from http://www.replacementupsbattery.com/Product_pages/wka12-75f_4pk.html. This 4-pack was what it took to get my UPS back in shape. I still have the old batteries and if reconditioning them is possible I might do that and just keep 2 sets for it.
Nice. Simplecoin just got a ~3 day block while averaging something like 13 GHash. I've been getting a fairly large number of stales since I switched over. Was 10% at first and now my average is down to 4%. I got my second card today and have it running. Due to heat I'm going to keep my...
Price seems to be inching back up, almost $10 again. As a brand new commodity with no direct relationship to the existing markets, I'm not surprised by some wild trade swings. Maybe after I have some to work with I'll try playing the market.

It's back! I tried to buy this about 10 days ago and it went out of stock before I could check out.
Bitcoins have value because of a perceived future value. If everyone knew that bitcoin would be worthless in 5 years, the value would plummet in short order. The value of bitcoin is based on the utility of it in the future. Every time some new entity starts dealing in BTC, the faith in the...
Of course lots of people will be thinking the same so I would suspect a difficulty rise when it gets cooler. I'll ramp up anyway and mine through the winter, then get my system in place to dump heat to the hot water pre-heat tank for next summer.
Thanks, Lorien. I skipped CCC when I did my last driver install, and according to google searches there is no way to modify Powertune without CCC that is within my proficiency/risk tolerance. That's alright for now. I've backed the volts off and just run at that level for now and save some...
Step 1: Obtain six 22oz beer cans.
Step 2: Dispose of contents of cans in whatever fashion you see fit.
Step 3: Cut bottoms and tops from beer cans, then slice lengthwise to obtain flat aluminum sheets.
Step 4: Find out if you can fold as well as your boxen!
