That asus board looks solid with the rebate. Good find! Just avoid the msi boards if you overclock, their vrm's like to explode since they don't handle a lot of extra power than am3+ spec.

Don't discount the 970 chips. Unless you need 3 or more 16x pcie they are good boards for a bit cheaper. I'd get the 8 core amd fx over the 6 core imo. Gigabyte 970 ud3 for $110

That motherboard has 4+1 power phases. Look for something with 8+2. The asus you linked is 6+2. I'd go up one step on the asus to get 8+2, I know the gigabyte ud5 990fx I got is 8+2 also.

Do you need this system up or data off it? It seems like it would be better getting a newer motherboard and possibly cpu than waste money on an old used motherboard. You could also virtualize it possibly if you have another system and run it in there and get what you need.
