The bottleneck would be the HDD? What would be my best option for dealing with that?
I also just realized you're right about discounts for windows---unfortunately, I can't get my system without it, so it's not an option
Thanks for the lengthy reply, enginurd.
My budget is somewhere between 2500 and 3500 (taking into account some discounts I'm gettting from dell).
I'd be using it for playing current-gen games: HL2, NWN2, Supreme Commander, etc...But I'd also like to play future games like HL2: Episode 2...
I'm ordering a new system for college, and I've been pressured into getting a system from Dell for reasons that would be useless to elaborate on. However, as I've been out of the Hardware market for a while, I'm unsure about what choices to make. I'd appreciate any suggestions. Please keep in...
Has anyone tried this monitor with a Gamecube?
I tried it with the composite, and the image was really, really bad (much worse than when playing on a TV).
If it's worth it, I might try to find a set of Gamecube component cables.
It would only be tearing if the line appear when you (or something on screen) moves.
If you see the lines, when you are stationary, could just be a driver/video card related error.
Im not sure if your card can do it, but check the nvidia driver settings (and check to see if you have new drivers). On mine i have "Digital flat panel settings", which lets me change the way my monitor displays things ( stretch, strech (but maintain aspect ratio), center, etc).
On that...
Maybe they just used a VGA cable?
Also-- is this monitor dazzlingly bright to anyone else? I have brightness down to 50, and it is still really bright. It burns the eyes, and even the face! And it does warm up my room quite a bit.
It turned out to be a lot simpler. I just added a custom resolution of 1440 X 900 @ 75 Hz in Nvidia settings. Like 30 more FPS with that resolution, despite the fact that it doesn't look as clear and pretty.
And also, i didn't notice any change in gradients when i tried to input 75Hz...
Quinquinux AA? Im not gonna lie, I have no idea what you are talking about....
unless you are talking about that weird ati aa that i heard about once, long ago.
But regarding HL2 again-- i cant seem to get a custom resolution to work. It worked after i uninstalled Ez Tune, but it...
Hmm.
Just got this monitor. Not gonna give a full review, since that has been done to death. But I will hit upon a few points.
Backlight- Im no expert with monitors, as my old monitor that I have used for years wasn't really good at all. But , from watching a DVD, I could tell that...
Can anyone else comment on VGA vs DVI for this monitor? I was all set for getting a DVI cable to go with this monitor when i get it, but now im unsure....
Do pricey dvi cables (such as monster cables) have any advantage whatsoever? Only reason i ask is because selection in stores is really kind of bare (And i wont be buying this cable over the internet.) Like, i could either get a $20 cable, or a 60$ monster cable at compusa. But the $20 is 16...
TempestX I cant remember--did the monitor buzz for you? If so, did i go away after changing the brightness?
I still can't wait to get this though. Too bad i might not be running games at the highest possible resolutions (i like special fx!). But it will still look fiiiine.
Im...
Wait im unsure...are you using a DVI or VGA?
And have you checked your video card drivers? Have you also tried tuning the color correction and gamma and stuff?
I hope by "screenshot" you mean a physical picture of the monitor's screen.
If you just take a screenshot all you are just seeing the effects of the gfx card.
I know i asked this before, but im still unsure:
What kind of DVI cable do i need?
I have an nvidia 6800...
Do i need a DVI-I or a DVI-D? Do i need single link or dual link?
And are any brands better than others?
Anyone ever gotten a Best Buy extended warranty? And how is the Gateway warranty support?
Reason im asking is because i might be getting the the monitor from either BB or gateway's site, and I'm wondering who might have better replacement guarantees and service and stuff. I know the BB...
Sorry to re-post this question, but:
Currently I run at a resolution of 1024 X 768. How much of an impact will this monitor's native resolution have on my systems performance during games?
I have a 2.8Ghz P4, a nvidia 6800 and 1GB ram.
Actually, i read though all 12 pages of the thread and you seem to be mistaken. The problems were not reported by everyone. Every single person saw the monitor differently.
Some people heard buzzing in the monitor, others didnt and one person, i believe, said it went away.
Some people...
But which one will be a better investment? I plan on having this same monitor for years to come, so I need to pick one that will be the best 3-4 years from now.
Alright, I've never been a monitor-sensitive user in the past. But i now want a new one. I currently have a Viewsonic VG150B.
I have a BFG 6800 OC
2.8 GHz P4
1GB Rdram
Now, here's what i need to ask: What kind of DVI connector do I have? And what kind of cable...
Hmm that Gateway FPD2185W sounds sexy....i might have to read that thread....
Only problem is the gateway would be 200 more than i would pay fora 2005FPW (i have coupons!)
Advice?
I've considering getting a new Dell monitor (whichs does not seem to be uncommon, given all the 2405FPW and 2005FPW threads floating around).
I considererd the 2005FPW, but i'm not sure i want it just because i don't want to have to tweak some games to get a good resolution.
