Thanks will do! Great easy, simple, practical solution!
The power management doesn't let me set power options for each HDD separately so I set to turn off HDDs after 10 minutes.
I can hear it click off after 10 minutes but is there anyplace that shows the drive has powered down?
I was thinking of getting a secondary HDD for data storage (500GB SATA II; running at SATA I on my Asus P4C800 Deluxe but transferable to a SATA II MB in future).
Sometimes I wont need to access the data but once or twice a week and sometimes I will need to access it 8 hours a day.

Memtest86- great tip. I ran this - no errors! :)
Haven't run the 3 hour #9 test yet though, later.
I was unaware the test would loop itself and restart. Didn't notice until Memtest had run through 4 times (90 minutes)

I have a 2002 IBM A30 Thinkpad 1.13Ghz P3. The hard drive LED was flashing continuously (as if the hard drive was working) even when the system was idle and it took longer than normal to access data (disk did not need defragging). I ran the IBM disk checks and all passed but reformatted and...
Saw the specs on the new Samsung and would have liked to wait to get one but needed a monitor now so went with a 213T (silver). The faster response time and slightly finer dot pitch were appealing but Im happy with the 213T as it stands. I had considered the Samsung 243T and HP L2335 but when...
Looking for a new monitor: the specs on the Philips 200P4VB appear pretty decent, although I wish the contrast ratio was a bit higher and the speakers make it look a bit ungainly. Havent seen (found) any reviews on the Philips model. I'm also considering the HP-L2335 (or maybe even the...
