My pictures of the Cooler Master 690 (the new $50 uber-case!)

metalhead, that is some excellent wire management right there. By far the cleanest CM 690 so far in this thread. Great work.

Did you make any additional cuts to the motherboard tray to make your wires neater? Yours case just blows away everyone else's wiring, thats why I ask.

Seems to me that he doesn't have much to cable there, plus he's got a modular PSU.

Damn, I hate you guys.

I just ordered one from zipzoomfly for $59 and free shipping. Hope the $20 rebate comes through.

I have the same PSU as m3ta1head, hope I can make it look as purdy as his install.

I did not make any additional cuts. Like ClariorHincHonos said, I don't have much in there thats cabled up (4 120mm fans, 1 sata DVD drive, 2 IDE hard drives, esata header, firewire header, and usb header-I left out the audio header because I didn't want it). I also took full advantage of the modularity of my power supply and daisy chained everything together instead so as to keep the wires inside the case to a minimum. It took some pre planning and about 5 hours of work to get it like that, but it was well worth it as far as I'm concerned.

Wow, I havn't looked at cases lately, but that is seriously a bad ass case.

Does that fan that's behind the board do much? Seems like there wouldn't be enough clearance between it and the board to get much air flow.

Grommets for watercooling tubing are a plus.

m3ta1head - Looks awesome, this case alone now has me excited to build again in a couple months!

heh, i was on that page no more than two days ago and there was just a simple sketch (minus dimensions) there in place of the current masterpiece.

paying to ruin a nice looking case isn't something i'm interested in. (as i move to my solution which some would consider ruining a case :p)

the holes in the side fan-grilles are big enough to see through anyways. just mount a couple of those clear LED coolermaster fans, in your choice of nifty colour. they make a great window and you can see inside just enough.

While I wait for mine to arrive this week do you guys have any suggestions for a couple of 120mm fans for the top of the case? I would think quite would of utmost concern since they are on top and that location is closest to my ears. Or would some 140's be a better bet?

Never mind. I just picked up 4 Loons.

does anyone got their $20 rebate? i'm getting a vibe that CM customer service suck a$$. because i e-mailed them about those rubber fan mounts and NO one replied to me. anyone else heard anything from them about their missing rubber fan mounts?

Considering that was ONE instance I've seen it, and it was sent to a review site, I think it was just a special deal. And seriously...you're not missing much with the fan mounts. No one that I've seen has got them. So it was probably a fluke.

I picked one up as well. Its not 100% finished, but here is what I have so far.

Specs are:
Intel Xeon x3210 (quad core) @ 3.2ghz
Asus P5WGD2-WS Pro
2gb DDR2-667
Radeon HD 2600xt Crossfire (waiting on bridges)
Corsair HX 520w
4 Rosewill Blue LED 120mm fans
160gb Seagate 7200.9
DVD-Combo

questions about the case since mine is all installed.

Does anyone else have "gaps" between the 5.25 bay covers... not small ones... but a decent size. Like they are not tall enough. Also my fan side of the case does not sit flush with the case on top... like it "bows" out? Thanks... Love the case... trying to find the side window now...

Just got my case in today....b-e-a-utifulll.

Took my time running all the cables. Nothing great like metalhead and others but it turned out pretty well.

I'm just waiting on my 4 140mm and 2 120mm Yate Loon Super Silent fans to come in and then I will install those into the case, along with my CNPS9500.

The front LED fan is starting to grow on me. I don't really go for flash, but it is rather subtle since its muted by the mesh front and foam filter.

I will post pictures when I have time to upload them to a picture host. Been installing drivers all night to get my new rig up and running.

C2D E6750, MSI P6N Plat. Mobo, 2 GB DDR800 Crucial Ballistix, MSI 8800GTX OC, 250 GB WD, M-Audio Audiophile soundcard.

I finally got my case setup and wanted to pass on some real world numbers with regard to cooling and the 4 fan locations.

I installed 140 mm Loons in all four locations and they are wired to a fan controller. The two side fans are pulling in air and the top two fans are exhausting air. I include GPU temp numbers due to the fact that the 2nd side fan blows over the 8800 GTS I have in the system.

Ambient temp in the room was 67*. I ran Orthos with Small FFT’s. Voltage was set at 1.425 but drops to 1.36 under load. Idle temps on both cores are around 32* C. without the other 4 case fans running.

The first set of numbers is without any of the 4 fans running. Only the rear case fan, the front case fan and the Freezer 7 are running.

The 2nd set of numbers is with the two side fans running and the top fans turned off.

The 3rd set of numbers is with the side fans turned off and the top fans turned on.

The 4th set of numbers is all fans running.

Observations:

I finding it interesting how running the side fans dropped the GPU idle temp. I need to check the numbers while running 3Dmark06 and stressing the GPU.

Running the top fans alone is not as effective as running the thee side fans alone on CPU temp.

Running all four of them only has a negligible effect on CPU temp compared to the side fans only and has no effect on the GPU temps.

Running the top fans at full tilt does add some noise but it is not noticeable when gaming or music playing in the room. The side fans are virtually silent when they are running in a quite room.

Would you mention which fans you have sucking air in vers blowing air out of the case.

Thanks

Have any more pics? I'd like to see how you routed the wires for the PC&PC 750.

I picked up a second CM690 and moved my Gaming computer to it (see sig).

After getting a decent vibe on this case from this thread I went to Newegg to order one - $79.99 +$15 shipping... just on a lark I went to zipzoomfly.com as someone earlier in the thread mentioned:

They have the case for $59.99 - $20 Rebate and FREE shipping - total cost = $39.99 :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

If you're even thinkin about it the rebate is good till the 15th of Nov - not sure on the FREE shipping.

The side fans blowing in were too loud for me; now 1 fan is blowing out; top fan blowing in. I think there might be less chance of dust getting in w/ this config, and it seem quieter.

I read through the thread and sorry if this was already addressed but do you guys have the fans behind the mobo blowing on the mobo or sucking air out?

Very nice case, might get one...

Just ordered a cm 690 and 4 120mm yates fans. Is there a need to order an addition fan controller or do i just plug the fans onto the mobo?

Good question!

Thanks for the reply PornFlakes. That makes good sense as heat tends to rise anyway and it's always cooler at floor level.
I seen some rigged for down draft flow too, like dekruyter for example. I feel dust is going to get in no matter how you put the fans so just plan on cleaning it out when the dust bunnies are blowing out!

I got the fan controller for those times when I am gaming. I didn't want all the fans running full tilt when I was just surfing or doing general PC stuff.

Depending on how many fan connectors your MB has you might need a controller.

Ok had my 690 for about two weeks, its a great case, probably the heaviest case i ever owned.

Anybodys 690 get hot on the top where the usb and esata ports are?? Also I touched the usb/esata's wires inside the case and they are extremely hot as well.

Id also be interested in this and what people have tried. I just got the case and am putting in a q6600 system with an ultra 120 xtreme and am using 1 top exhaust, 1 rear exhaust, 1 bottom intake , 1 front intake, 1 side intake(lower) all of which will be scythe S-FLEX SFF21F 120MM fans, and Im gonna use the led fan that came with the case as a 2nd top exhaust. Im also using one of the scythes on the 120 xtreme pointing out the rear.
