i've maxed out the ati overdrive 690/800 on stock voltages, so did pretty much everyone else that owns the card ,
whos the manufacturer of your card?

I'm just about to fire off an order for one of those right now. Actually the 620W model. I have yet to run into any problems with an Enermax PSU.Digital Viper-X- said:I have no problem running my machine on an Enermax Liberty 500 =p including 2 hds, 4 120mm fans dvdrw =D
Rocco123 said:Ricewind - Are you using the ATITool to overclock or the CCC overdrive? If you're using the ATITool, make sure that you up the voltage a little on the memory, as it's probably using the 2D voltages (posted in the thread earlier). If you'd like, post the voltage readings off the ATITool and we can probably tell you if they are correct for 3D mode, and you can start overclocking from there.
Also, yes sapphire is a notable brand, as they make most if not all of ATIs retail cards. It's always possible to get a board that doesn't overclock well as others, but I think you may be running lower voltages
tesfaye said:I tried to OC using ATI tool and the settings are overrided by the ATI driver when I try to do any testing. I killed those atie...exe processes and I still coulded get the damn thing to OC while in a 3D app. I was able to monitor for artifacts and frame rate using that windows with the hairy cube but I can't get the clocks to work in an app. To make matters worse, Overdrive is doing nothing. I confirmed this by running the bench at various above stock levels and my 3D Mark scores never improved. I got my highest score of 9981 after I reinstalled my drivers and didn't enable overdrive.
I was able to run 690/800 at 1.45v/2.2v. I got it as high as 705/812 but it started getting crazy and I wasn't too sure if I should try to raise the voltage any more on the memory. Does anyone know what the tolerances are for the chips used on the 1900XT? I noticed a substantial jump in frame rate within the fuzzy cube window when I made the clock change. I tested for artifacts and didn't find any after about 15 minutes of letting it run. It would be nice to actually play a game with that OC.
I'm basically trying to get the best minimum frame rate that I can from this card. Black and White 2 can still get slightly choppy in some views and I want to minimize that.
I really should be happy that my card out of the box tramples my old 850XT but I can't get past the fact that I can't OC this bitch.
Rocco123 said:Heat - Possibility. Have you taken off the stock cooler? Sometimes the heat pads on the stock cooler and really poorly placed. What are your temps? The GPU temps might clue you in on if the heatsink is placed properly.
I'm assuming you've tried adjusting fan speed to keep temps down>?
That sounds about right for 2.7 GHZ. Here are my scores for 3D Mark05. These are at stock GPU and Mem speeds.rincewind said:Weird, I'm getting just over 11k at stock. I do have an x2 3800+ at 2.7GHz, but seems weird that it could give me over 1,000 points more than you. What processor are you running? It may be that OD is actually lowering your clocks due to temps??
Thanks for that.plywood99 said:1) Disable the Ati Hotkey Poller service.
2) Set voltages in Ati tool to vgpu 1.4, mvddc 2.097, mvddq 2.097, vddci 1.475 , this is my setup for water.
3) I believe AtiTool has a bug and will not store the vddci voltage after a reboot. On my system it sets it at 1.3xxvolts which is not stable in 3d at all. Still investigating this.
Yup. Same here. It's sooooo much better than my 850XT but I won't be happy unless I can overclock it.rincewind said:I can't believe how pissed off this card has made me. It tramples my GTX, but I have a need to overclock that this card can't deliver. It's gotta go.

Heheh, my 1900XT isn't going anywhere! lol. I reinstalled the drivers again and I OC'd to 650/775. This time I noticed an improvement. Nothing earth shattering but I am pissed that the OD tool maxed the settings at 689/796 but when I try to benchmark with those clock rates the machine crashes. However I am patient and can live (for now) with ONLY XTX speeds.plywood99 said:Before you all return your "lousy clocking" cards, be patient. X1900 series really is a different beast from other video cards, even from the x1800 series. They require more touch, or skill so to speak. Plus better tools for clocking will show up shortly, cards only been out a couple weeks. All the overclocking tools right now are buggy and not fully supporting x1900...

With the x1900XT's and b12 of ATI tool the 3D detection sorta works but crashes more often than not. I disabled the ATI Poller service and it worked a couple of times. It's REALLY buggy. The best thing is to use it at one setting only. That doesn't work for me. I don't want to hear the fan at 65% while I'm browsing or working. Even with 3D detection disabled loading different profiles resulted in crashes and hangs.Jodiuh said:I thought you couldn't set 2d/3d with atitool. Thought you had to disable the services and you get one speed all the time?
rincewind said:Considering the fact that everyone else is managing to use ATiTool for overclocking, the reality is that I have a dud. Well, a poor overclocker anyway - it's not fair to call working card a dud.
I can use ATiTool no problem, just can't actually get any significant increase that actually works. I must have re-booted my box at least 50 times trying to tweak this card, and it just isn't having it. The fact that OverDrive crashes as well doesn't exactly inspire confidence that this situation will change.
plywood99 said:Once again, there is more to overclocking than just the card. Do you have a good strong power supply???
rincewind said:Having now played COD2 and FEAR, I'm not returning this. The GTX sucked at both of these games, but they play brilliantly on this card with higher AA levels to boot.
Jodiuh said:So true. I've still got issues with F.E.A.R., but COD2 (Aside from setting affinity) ran great @ 1680x1050 with 4xAA and high details.
rincewind said:What problems are you having with FEAR? I only ran through the first couple of stretches, but I haven't noticed anything amiss yet. It sucks that COD2 doesn't like dual-core - took me a while to figure out why I couldn't get past the initial training when I first played it
