    Random Hard Locking, Suspect PSU

I learned my lesson the hard way a couple years ago when it comes to a PSU (went through 2 PSU's before I lost a few GB of data :() http://www.directron.com/sf550stainless.html My computer killed 2 300W PSU's and I had a 400W one that couldn't keep my rig stable when I overclocked it. I...

Antec TruePower 380w, or Antec 400w?

Yes. That PSU will much better suit your needs for an A64 system. IMO the 380 or the 400 is just getting by for an A64 system.

How would a computer with a 500w powersupply affect your electricity bill?

I have a 520W PSU and the only effect I got was more stability, better overclock, and a cooler running system. *The wattage of your PSU makes no difference, the bigger the better. The amount of power your computer uses is solely dependent on what components are in your computer...

Antec TruePower 380w, or Antec 400w?

Ignore the n00bie under my name. They may be enough but when you are running a PSU at it's max all the time, they run hot, and have shorter life. A 500W+ PSU may be overkill, but it will also last longer and deliver more stable power. (rails have high current ratings, voltages stay up better...

    power 17 HDDs?

It's better IMO to use a separate PSU for the hard drives instead of having the system PSU handle all that load. When I use to use SCSI, I used an old AT PSU to run the drives and had no problems.

Antec TruePower 380w, or Antec 400w?

I'd go much bigger than a 400W. http://www.directron.com/sf550stainless.html 550W PSU with a 50A 5V rail and a 30A 12V rail, can't go wrong. I have an older quad-fan 520W version of this PSU, but ths 550W one is nicer because the bigger fan is quieter

Do Computer Games Drive the PC Industry?

When I upgraded to an Athlon, it was because of my games, but once I got the faster system, I liked how much better performance for windows and apps was, and I kept upgrading my computer. However, games IMO are a big reason why newer hardware (esp Video Cards) keep coming out. Also, having a...

can a fan cause a big power fluxuation?

    1. Your PSU might not be very strong 2. When connecting high power components, connect them on their own wire. (don't connect a bunch of stuff to the molex connectors all on the same set of wires with a high power device) I hope you get your system back up and running soon. :(

What Is The Pride of Your System?

My Albatron Geforce4 Ti4200 OC'd to 315/565 Best $153 I ever spent on computer parts. My modified Iwill KK266-R motherboard, has lasted me over 3 years, and has been the MOST stable board I've ever had/used. I volt modded the board, did the 5V mod, and later on upgraded the CPU Vcore caps...

The Future of AGP Video Cards

But the difference between the two isn't like comparing ATA 100 to ATA 133. PCI Express is MUCH faster, and eventually we may need that bandwidth for out video cards.
