I learned my lesson the hard way a couple years ago when it comes to a PSU (went through 2 PSU's before I lost a few GB of data :()

My computer killed 2 300W PSU's and I had a 400W one that couldn't keep my rig stable when I overclocked it.
I...
I have a 520W PSU and the only effect I got was more stability, better overclock, and a cooler running system.
*The wattage of your PSU makes no difference, the bigger the better. The amount of power your computer uses is solely dependent on what components are in your computer...
Ignore the n00bie under my name.
They may be enough but when you are running a PSU at it's max all the time, they run hot, and have shorter life. A 500W+ PSU may be overkill, but it will also last longer and deliver more stable power. (rails have high current ratings, voltages stay up better...
It's better IMO to use a separate PSU for the hard drives instead of having the system PSU handle all that load.
When I use to use SCSI, I used an old AT PSU to run the drives and had no problems.
I'd go much bigger than a 400W.

550W PSU with a 50A 5V rail and a 30A 12V rail, can't go wrong.
I have an older quad-fan 520W version of this PSU, but ths 550W one is nicer because the bigger fan is quieter
When I upgraded to an Athlon, it was because of my games, but once I got the faster system, I liked how much better performance for windows and apps was, and I kept upgrading my computer.
However, games IMO are a big reason why newer hardware (esp Video Cards) keep coming out. Also, having a...
1. Your PSU might not be very strong
2. When connecting high power components, connect them on their own wire. (don't connect a bunch of stuff to the molex connectors all on the same set of wires with a high power device)
I hope you get your system back up and running soon. :(
My Albatron Geforce4 Ti4200 OC'd to 315/565 Best $153 I ever spent on computer parts.
My modified Iwill KK266-R motherboard, has lasted me over 3 years, and has been the MOST stable board I've ever had/used. I volt modded the board, did the 5V mod, and later on upgraded the CPU Vcore caps...
But the difference between the two isn't like comparing ATA 100 to ATA 133.
PCI Express is MUCH faster, and eventually we may need that bandwidth for out video cards.
I think it's better that this is the end of AGP.
PCI Express is going to be so much better, so I see it as a good thing.
I mean a 6800 ultra or X800 is plenty fast for AGP, I think it's time to adopt the new standard.
I haven't got my case yet because I'm in the market for one.
The Antec is nice, but pricey, and the Chenbro is nice.
I saw other cases at newegg that took 120mm fans, but usually they take only one fan, or the fan grills suck
I imagine having 2 120mm fans pushing air through the case...
Well that's good, I'm really in the mood to go buy some new games. I'm glad I got rid of my Athlon 1400 a while back then, because this XP is much faster than the T-bird. Vice City was slow with my old Tbird.
I'd love to get an NF7-S and some good PC3200 in the future, then eventually an XP...
Wow, FryCry looks really good.
If your 1.4ghz T-bird can run it, I imagine my 1700Mhz Athlon XP would do ok then.
As long as it's playable, and looks good. I don't use AA or AF anyway so I imagine a 9800 is overkill.
Also by reading the post about the efficiency of the ATI cards, I...
My rig was much slower when I had the Athlon 1400 Tbird OC'd to 1533.
But will 1700Mhz be sufficient? I'm only 100Mhz slower than a stock Barton 2400+ so I imagine my CPU isn't as much a limit as my SDRAM is for me.
When I get $300 I'll be getting an Abit NF7-S and 1GB of PC3200 and keep...
I've had this Ti4200 for a long time, and it's plenty fast enough at 1024x768 for all the games I play so far (GTA Vice City, UT2K4) but what about the newer games out now?
Do I need a Radeon 9800 or is this card good for a while longer?
System Specs:
AMD Athlon XP 1800 Oc'd to 1708 Mhz...
I managed to get some 12V, 1.2A  120mm computer fans, and I want to have a case that I can use them in. I also want a window and I don't have the time to mod one in.
What case has a nice window, and can take a few 120mm fans?
I'm tired of the regular old 80mm fans most cases use.
