I would say it should work just fine. I've been doing the same with a Note 2 for 2 years. Contact ends in 2 weeks, and unless someone can show me something better (maybe that Asus Zen), I'll have a nexus 6 in that timeframe.

Guarantee you can get a Motorola Triumph for under 100, possibly even new. Flash or with MTDEV Cyanogenmod 7 and it will work great for your needs.

From a bit of research, I need to create a VLAN? How do I do this?

I got a Cisco router (works just fine) and an Edimax range extender/AP. My question: can I setup the extender to be seamless so that there is only the Cisco showing, but the benefits of the extender? I've tried setting it up both as an AP and extender, and both require login to the edimax.
