PSU illeterate, need help picking between 2 power supplies!

Ah, great to hear! Seasonic is indeed one of the best PSU makers out there, in my experience. I'm pleased that XFX went with them, rather than the cheaper options.

PSU illeterate, need help picking between 2 power supplies!

I would contend that reviews on Newegg and the like do matter - but look past the ratings. Look at the folks who rated something low (1/2 stars/eggs) and see *why*. Materially, though, I would agree with Tsumi: the Antec HCG should do very nicely. I'm not sure who actually makes the XFX unit...

Our sample sizes on Corsair and OCZ memory are going to be smaller and older, so they may not be applicable to the current memory being produced by those companies, but here is what I have: Corsair memory failure rates (data based on memory purchased between 2005-2008): Value: 7.03% XMS: 8.88%...

Corsair Announces Availability of High-Capacity Force Series GT SSDs

I don't think they are raking money in quite as you describe. Check out this recent article on SSDs - most of the first page is dedicated to talking about the costs involved: http://www.anandtech.com/show/4604/the-sandforce-roundup-corsair-patriot-ocz-owc-memoright-ssds-compared It is...

Netflix Users, Time to Pick a Plan

Returned my last rented DVD yesterday, confirmed it via email today, and switched to the online-only plan. $2 more for me per month, and the kids still get all their fun streaming video content. We hardly watched the rental DVDs anyways - our last one was The King's Speech, and it took us like...

I have a different perspective, based on the experiences we've had where I work. When it comes to RAM, whatever is *most reliable* is the key. Bad memory can have far-reaching effects on stability, and as the numbers I quoted before show there is a lot of variance from one brand to another...

Virtual memory setting in Win 7 with large amount of RAM

That may be true today, and I really haven't had a page file since... 2004 maybe? So perhaps I'm not giving it a fair shake. But I can say definitely, from my own experience, that having one in Windows XP ended up slowing things down even if you had enough RAM that whatever task(s) you were...

Virtual memory setting in Win 7 with large amount of RAM

I'm curious - what software have you run into with this requirement? I've run without a page file on all of my systems for several years now, and had no such issues... but then I don't do a ton on the more creative side of things (Adobe creative suite apps and the like).

For what it is worth, here are the statistics for RAM module failures from the company I work with over the last 10 years. Please note that this includes modules that were DOA or found to be defective in our testing here, as well as those which failed later on for customers in the field (if...

Where I work, we go off reliability as the #1 factor when selecting RAM. Based on the three main brands we've tried, for long periods, over the years I have to say Kingston is the best. Half the failure rate of Corsair, and about 1/10th the problem rate of OCZ. Now that is their ValueRAM...

    Recommendation on Kill-A-Watt meter?

I have the meter P3 meter you linked to myself, and it seems to do a good job. I guess I've never tested it against anything else for accuracy, but we've used them extensively where I work too... so I believe they are considered reliable.

Fresh install showing 40 GB used

Looks like I was typing while you posted some new info - sorry for the late links! I personally would turn off the page file when you have that much RAM, but I know not everyone shares that sentiment. Joe Average on these forums has some good suggestions too - go to the "Operating System"...

Fresh install showing 40 GB used

Here is an article with info on turning off the page file (you can also just change size / relocate it from the interface shown): http://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/Best-Practices-for-Computer-Performance-and-Safety-71/page2 Here are instructions on disabling hibernation, after which you...

Fresh install showing 40 GB used

It is likely the Windows page file; possibly the hibernation file as well. Those are both based off the amount of RAM you have installed, and if you are rocking 12, 16 or 24GB of RAM (not at all hard to do these days) then those temp files will eat up tons of disk space. Consider turning them...

    digital input

Windows 7 supports that on any touchscreen monitor with a stylus input option. For an example, check out the Asus EEE Slate (model EP121) - a tablet PC running Windows 7 which comes with a stylus for text entry.
