I have 2 of these and am very happy with them. I have had only 3 small files that were slow writers out of hundreds of vid files written on them. In many cases these are files have been rewritten over deleted vid files with absolutely no reduction in write speeds. Playback on BR vids work...
I will repeat, there is no speed reduction at all (none) if you are using Win 7 or 8 on a storage only drive or even a partitioned storage area. Many years ago it was recommended for the OS portion of a drive to have a 50% free space. Why? Mainly because Windows kept all of the updates added to...
He is asking about a storage drive not an OS drive. I will presume you are using Win7 or 8 and there is no defragmenting that needs to be done. You will have no problems with filling the drive and there will be no speed reduction or any other problems.
B&H is one of the most reliable and honest companies out there. I have been purchasing all of my HD's from them for the last 2 years. Consumers Reports Mag listed them last year as one of the 5 top rated online stores for electronics. They are owned by a pair of devout Hasidic Jews and close...
The switch center for a new Google Internet city? Mass production of a standardized center would reduce infrastructure costs greatly and could be used on inland waterways with a permanent mooring.
I have to agree with Fritingo. I also have worked with RE drives as Main and Secondary drives for several years and not a one has ever had a problem in a normal desktop or workstation environment. I install the RE drives in new computers and say good-by to HD problems.
I have been using UltimateDefrag for a couple of years now for a few disks that I needed to do the same thing as you. Archive video that is not going to be altered or deleted and it leaves the rest on the outer rim for fast access. You will be happy with it over the slower free programs.
Handbrake is the way to go. GPU encoding for video is inferior in video quality but faster in rendering compaired to CPU encoding from personal experience and the pros say the same thing.

I highly recommend Fastmail.fm for an E-Mail client. I have been with them for several years and it has only been down one day in that time and I have never lost any info. They were bought out earlier this year by Opera so they can use it for their in house E-Mail client but have kept the...
I wipe them, take the screws out of the top, put a rubber band around the drive to keep the top on and then give them to local schools for their science class. The teachers are appreciative, the kids love handling them and get to see what and how their computer that they use every day works.
You have to understand that each step of the way involved new technology and it took the Studios and Manufacturers to come up with a standard that they both would agree upon. The 480 standard was almost a give because it allowed current TV sets (tube sets) to use the standard without any...
You hit it right on the nose George. Almost all of any corporate management will accept any cost reduction and in this case, is a SSD going to reduce time needed to complete a project more than the cost of the SSD? I think you will find that most companies will not invest more than they already...
I have a Cyberpower 1500AVR that I have been using for the last 4 years and it is wonderful. It powers a 14 drive system and never has let me down. I have no idea how long the battery would last on a charge but it has run the system for 3 1/2 hours during one power outage.
It is true a big CME is coming our way but no one knows exactly what year it will happen. The big one will be a lot stronger than the one NASA is predicting. We have 2 previous know major CME strikes. The one mentioned in 1859 that literally set on fire Moris code wires and destroyed at least...
I give my dead drives to the local schools after I have removed the screws to the top of the drives. The teachers have been very appreciative because it makes the study of how a computer works so much more understandable to the kids.
This has been my E-mail company for many years. It looks like I will have to find another company. FastMail has been wonderful for me. Sorry to see them go away.

Very interesting. None of the sites list the feature “Dual actuator technology”. The model number is also not listed on WD’s site yet.
What is happening to your card is that it sees that you do not have a backup battery supply. It automatically defaults to the very slow read and write speeds because of it to ensure no loss of data in case of a power failure. I very strongly recommend that you have the battery backup unit that...
Sorry folks but I am in for a pair of these. I have way to much back and forth writing. It looks like it will be a great improvement over the 2 1TB Blacks I have now.
Thanks for more info again. The company I work for requires that the entire drive be encrypted. We use TrueCrypt for the encryption. No one here has been allowed to use an SSD because of the companies own unresolved certainty of long term reliability and a sustainable speed with TrueCrypt or any...
I would also like to thank you for the info. The only question I have left is what happens to the write capabilities of the Intel when the entire drive is encrypted. I have heard good reports of no major differences in speed and others that their drive slowed down considerably after encrypting...
In stock at the Egg. It does not have the Dual actuator technology that the 2TB model has.

I need to add the WD site info. It looks like it does not have the Dual Processor just like the other Blue drives.

I will add that if you are using Raid 0 (as it looks like you are) the Areca card will be the choice you will want to use. The Areca card will run circles around a 9650SE card in Raid 0.
I also agree with the above statements. The 3ware cards are slower than the newer ones from Areca and LSI but I have found that they are almost bulletproof and not one card has ever given me a single problem. They also have worked flawlessly with any drive I have installed on them (almost all...
