Well yesterday I had fun while hacking my new NEC 355A DVD-RW to a NEC 4551A DVD-RW enabling DVD-RAM support and LabelFlash support (similar to LightScribe for those who dont know, I never heard of LabelFlash until I got the sale on the NEC).
I woke up today with my techie blood still flowing...
Mod #1
I have the stock fan from my stock AMD X2 3800+ hsf sitting outside the empty pci slots as exhaust #2. I am planning to do the rest as soon as I can afford the two 120mm fans.
Mod #2
This mod is mainly to compliment the top intake fan added in Mod #1. And also to make my case...
Strange.... what firmware version did the original steps update you to?
Maybe that firmware version was a cracked one :(
MePopeye,
1)After you unzip the NECBFL.EXE, simply open the folder where you unzipped it to and double click on it.
2)You have to enter the entire line of...
Yes, I used the steps that were posted originally to change the bootcode. Then I updated firmware by running the prog: http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/Firmware/SingleModel.aspx?DriveId=1328
Am waiting for my refund from newegg before I can purchase my qpack :(
So right now my mobo is sleeping in a cardboard box (carefully protected with static bags etc) under my bed awaiting its judgement day (hopefully some day next week)
Honestly I see no reason why it should not fit.
Mine hacked successfully :D
I did the firmware update a lil bit different though
I just download the latest firmware update from here:
http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/Firmware/SingleModel.aspx?DriveId=1328
Unzip the files and run the .exe prog. It will ask if you want to update from version N/A...
Received mine yesterday, picked it up 2day :D
benamaster, can you link me the steps to flash it to 4551A? Did you use the link that was originally posted but used the 4551A firmware instead?
Thanks in advance
The G.Skills I posted are 250 1:1 stock. You should RMA yours if they dont do 250mhz.
Only yesterday did I make a thread similar to this, the info might be useful:

There are some great combos with the G.Skills on newegg atm :D
Works fine for me.
Try the direct link

And also the Diamond Flash Image version

The refund is from newegg actually :D
Just checked the G. Skill link again and I am seeing a ridiculous amount of combos, just ordered an vf700 for my GTX for free!
Plus I wont have a rebate to deal with. G.Skill it is :D
Thx everyone.
AlmostEvil, have you decided on some sticks yet?
I just went through a few months of hell with my 2x 1gb Crucial Ballistix PC4000 till I finally confirmed that one was defective and RMA'd them back to newegg. Im getting a refund of $200us in the next few days (hopefully tomrw) and I have started to look at which new sticks I would like. I want...
Honestly the 7800GTX 256mb cards are still great cards and there is no reason to upgrade unless you NEED the extra power.
I, for one, dont...yet :D
In a few months I will just slap a VF900Cu LED on her and see how much she can OC to.
Should there be any probs running this set of ram with it?

Between my DFI mobos, defective 2gb ballistix and kingston hyperX sticks (wish they were compatible with DFI). I really have had enough ram issues to last me a decade or so.
