    Thinkpad battery FRU compatibility

    I have an older 9 cell battery (FRU: 42T4912) for my older T series that's apparently compatible with: EDGE 14 EDGE 15 L410 L412 L510 L512 SL410 SL510 T410 T410i T510 T510i W510 I was wondering if I could reuse it if I bought a T520 and T530? I'm suspecting it may work because the current...

x230t used with dual 1920x1200 monitors?

Hmm, it's that's a good sign. Hmm, I've asked Lenovo support about this but they end up just not responding anymore when I ask this question . I very much want to buy the notebook/tablet, but to make it my desktop replacement I need to be sure it supports both my monitors.

    2x8Gb, recommendations?

Thanks for the recommendations, then I think I'll stick with the 4x4GB route. I'm glad to find out there's nothing I need to watch out for when I decide to upgrade to 8GB modules. Conker: There's a pretty good deal right now on 2x8GB for $160 after rebate...

    2x8Gb, recommendations?

Is anyone considering a 2x8Gb setup now? I suppose I could go with 4x4Gb and later down the road do a 4x8Gb when those become mainstream in pricing. I'm just wondering if there are any drawbacks with a 4x8Gb and whether I need to worry about ECC with RAM modules this large. If I do, I might...

    2x8Gb, recommendations?

I'm considering a new build with 2x8Gb and then in a couple years adding another 2x8Gb (or higher). Is there anything special when buying 8GB sticks that I should know? Do I need to worry about things like ECC? Does mixing brands become more of an issue?

    Expanding linux partition size

Gparted can't seem to extend my ext4 partition after I resized the NTFS volume: |--NTFS Recovery space (100MB)--||--Windows 7 space (250GB)--||--Unallocated Space (250GB)--||--Linux Partition (100GB)--||--Swap (4GB)--| Gparted still tells me the maximum size of my ext4 partition is 100GB. It...

Small Air Compressor or Electric Duster

    Extension cables

Are there any noticeable issues for people using PSUs with extenders for big cases? Are there specific cables I should try to avoid extending. For example, the 24 pin motherboard cable to power the CPU?

    Recommend a case

Requirements: Full tower Side Window Bottom mounted power supply (with PSU air intake from the bottom to get outside air) Dust filters (third party dust filter is fine) Right now, I've been staring at the CM HAF X. But I was wondering if anyone knew alternatives.

Dust filters on the HAF X, do they work?

Looking at all the reviews for the CM HAF X full tower has convinced me this is the perfect case. But but I'm also considering the HAF 932 which is a bit cheaper. But one of the big features the 932 is missing is dust filters. Could anyone comment how well the dust filters on the CM HAF...

    Securing vnc

So is there any way I can prevent port 5901 from being exposed on the remote machine while still having the ability to connect via ssh tunnel?
  19. C

    Securing vnc

Thanks for that comment, I think I realize what SSH tunneling actually does now. So any connection I make to port 5901 on my local machine will be forwarded to port 5901 on the remote machine. All traffic will be tunneled through the SSH port. Therefore, the only external port I need open is...

    A build for number crunching

So the big difference for Socket 2011 is the 4 memory channels vs the 2 in LGA 1155? How will that impact performance? And will performance gains only be seen if I'm using 4 sticks of RAM as opposed to 2?

    A build for number crunching

What does '16Gb start with 8GB' mean? Does that mean I should buy 2x8GB RAM sticks for now or is there something new about RAM I've missed since the C2D days?

    A build for number crunching

How is the hyperthreading on the Sandy Bridge? Would it make it possible for me to run sims on all 4 cores (using 4 threads) and use the free threads for normal desktop things like web browsing, hulu, etc?

    A build for number crunching

16GB of RAM would likely be enough. Budget is around $700 (for board+RAM+CPU). But this number is flexible depending on the configuration. For example, I wouldn't mind spending $100 more if the system was fairly upgradeable. The multiple cores is mainly for multiple simulations as I tend to...

    A build for number crunching

Oh, sorry I wasn't clear. I mean within this year 2011. Will the Socket for this Hex Core work with boards which support Sandy Bridge? A build for number crunching

I'm looking into a build for mostly running simulations and tests. The simulations will likely be both CPU and CUDA based. I'm wondering when if Sandy Bridge is the right CPU or does Intel have something more suited to my needs coming in the near horizon (in 2011). One of the key features of...

    Are you skipping 2500K/2600K?

So is Socket 1155 considered Intel's next long term socket? Also, what are the chances of incompatibility issues when moving from Sandy Bridge->Ive Bridge. Will certain chipsets cause an issue?

    460 768MB SLI or 6850?

@Valset: From what I'm understanding, he doesn't have a spare PCI-E slot. I think the best advice was to go with the 6850 or another ATI card that supports Eyefinity.

    Has anyone considdered this comparison?

It's fairly well established that the thermal sensor on the CPU is considered inaccurate when testing the performance between different cooling solutions. But has anyone considered finding out how inaccurate that method is? For example, comparing [H]'s method of using a 'thermocouple milled...

Is there any Flash 10.1 installation on Linux 64 bit?

Well I did get around to trying it out and it works fairly well for me. HD streaming no longer seems to be an issue. I do get the occasional audio issues where there's no sound output but nothing a browser restart doesn't fix.
