Wow. Just, wow. Time I left this forum for good, and stick to the forums with human beings and not assholes.

DFI strikes back with the DFI lanparty JR P45 T2RS

I think I realize where some of the confusion in this thread may be coming from - people might not be realizing that "P45" is a chipset designed and made by Intel, and used by many motherboard makers. So when someone says, "all P45s", what they are saying effectively is this set of motherboards...

DFI strikes back with the DFI lanparty JR P45 T2RS

Huh? Why would I do that? I've had the board since release, I've known that it's x8 x8 wired. I saw someone's post claiming all Intel P45s were x8 x8, had read otherwise, and asked that person to back it up. Pretty simple. Go back and read my post on 09-16-2008, 03:47 PM - I talk about...

DFI strikes back with the DFI lanparty JR P45 T2RS

Hmm? I'm not so concerned with what DFI will do, but what they (and other companies) can do. What I have been investigating is two possible scenarios - one is that the Intel P45 can only do x8 x8, the other that it can switch between x16 x0 and x8 x8 if a motherboard maker chooses (or has the...

DFI strikes back with the DFI lanparty JR P45 T2RS

Ah, I see now that you didn't look at my system config in my sig, or read my other posts in ohter threads in this forum... I've had the JR P45 T2RS since it was released, so I never needed your pictures of that. I was just concerned with whether DFI cut any corners with their P45 MATX...

    Website reviews J&W MINIX 780G mini-ITX

DisplayPort's advantages over DVI-D are mostly connector size and the fact that it's packet-based, and can support things like daisy-chaining monitors off of one connection (which will be awesome for notebooks someday). But it's not like there's any quality difference in what you see on the...

DFI strikes back with the DFI lanparty JR P45 T2RS

Most of the time PCIe 2.0 8x isn't a problem... based on the reviews I could find, the only time it could make a big difference is if you have a 30" LCD (2560x1600) *and* you have a video card (or two) with only 512MB of video memory. At that point, the video card(s) would have to use the PCIe...

DFI strikes back with the DFI lanparty JR P45 T2RS

lowteckh, what is your problem? MSI could be wrong - never said they couldn't! Look, I was hoping you had some real insight into the Intel P45, heck, maybe you were an industry insider, I don't know do I? You made a claim about all P45s, and I wanted details, and asked you to back up your...

DFI strikes back with the DFI lanparty JR P45 T2RS

Does everyone else here find that lowteckh adds as much value to this thread as I do? I've been trying to think of ways to thank him for everything he's done, but I'm having a hard time deciding how best to express my appreciation of the wonderfulness that is lowteckh... Anyway, back on...

    Website reviews J&W MINIX 780G mini-ITX

Good to see someone has done a review: http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/2008/09/17/j-w-minix-780g-mini-itx-htpc-motherboard/1 They didn't do any testing with PCIe x16 video cards though. Would have been nice to see how it performs as a tiny workstation/gaming rig, but I'm sure they'd have...

DFI strikes back with the DFI lanparty JR P45 T2RS

I don't care what term anyone uses... either you or MSI have "misinformation" - who is it? Wrong. P45s are either 16x 0x or 8x 8x. I brought up MSI and linked to their product page for a P45 board they have which they say auto-switches from 16x 0x to 8x 8x because YOU said "all p45s are...

DFI strikes back with the DFI lanparty JR P45 T2RS

Do you recall what I took issue with? When you said this: "all p45s are x8." That's what I took issue with. Now unless you know that all P45s are x8, and that MSI is a liar about their P45, why would you say that? MSI could be a liar, I don't know, you haven't provided any evidence. I...

DFI strikes back with the DFI lanparty JR P45 T2RS

Speaking of "immense amount of false and crap info", either MSI is a liar or you are: "When using two PCIE x16 slots, the PCIE x16 lanes will auto arrange from x16/ x0 to x8 x8" So who's the liar? (I'm honestly curious.)

What can fit into the DFI P45!?

Yes, but with a needlenose pliers it's not too difficult to remove those metal latches. I appreciate that the SATA connectors are angled and not blocked by any cards installed in the case, and consider the incompatibility with latching SATA cables an ok tradeoff. Really? Didn't notice this...

Q6600 and 333Mhz FSB stable, 400Mhz mostly stable so far, haven't done extensive tweaking yet, but I'm running a fully loaded system so it's tricky (four 2GB sticks of RAM, all slots filled, etc.)

yes, yes YES!!! THANK YOU! That did it! You did what Codemasters tech support could not do - solve this problem. The last thing they said to me was: "If you are still not getting the monitor resolution you want, then you may need to use a lower resolution unfortunately." I think I'll...

Vista 64 bit not using 4gb

Not true. Ever since the Pentium Pro (i.e. for the last 13 YEARS) 32-bit operating systems have been able to address not just 4GB of RAM, but up to 64GB of RAM on Intel systems with PAE enabled (PAE is 36-bit). The reason why we're still seeing 32-bit operating systems like XP and Vista...

DFI strikes back with the DFI lanparty JR P45 T2RS

Weird, sounds like a Vista specific issue. I've had no trouble at all with XP 64-bit and Catalyst 8.8, but in general XP 64-bit doesn't seem to have half the problems Vista does.

DFI strikes back with the DFI lanparty JR P45 T2RS

I was having trouble with 400FSB until I wrapped my head around the fact that CPU VTT is not the CPU voltage, and *then* everything fell into place, and I'm running just fine at 400FSB with my Q6600 (8x multi for 3.2Ghz, RAM at 800Mhz).

Hope at last: DFI to make mATX crossfire/SLI boards

I just wanted to mention that I got my replacement JR P45-T2RS from DFI yesterday, and it's been working great so far. Bill at DFI did a great job with the RMA, and it's actually one of the best support experiences I've had in a while.

AFAIK as soon as you put PCIe cards in both PCIe x16 slots, they both become x8. You must leave one PCIe x16 slot empty to have x16 lanes in the other. (The PCIe x1 slot is independent of both x16 slots.)

The heatsinks seem to be attached very well, and I'm not going to mess with them before I send the board back, however I do think I found what might be the culprit - there is some discoloration across the surface of a PLL IC near the northbridge chip - "ICS 9LPRS918JKLF". I think there's a good...

Hope at last: DFI to make mATX crossfire/SLI boards

I received the board on Friday - that's good to see that Motherboard Pro does have a DOA policy, all I could find was their page where they said their warranty for products sold was "as-is". AFAIK, nothing was grounding out. I literally went over every inch of the build with a flashlight, and...

Hope at last: DFI to make mATX crossfire/SLI boards

Wish I had something positive to report, however it appears my DFI LP JR P45-T2RS had a manufacturing defect and has rendered itself a doorstop. I moved my components to the DFI board, powered up, all was well for about 5 minutes, then there was a strong burning smell, so I powered down...

Sure, you can use GPU-Z to see how many lanes a card is using. I actually have my JR P45-T2RS in my hands now, but I'm going to be gone all weekend and won't be able to do anything with it until Sunday, so I can't offer any personal experiences until then.

Maybe someone else can chime in, but I'm not sure you can enable motherboard RAID after an OS is installed... at least I've never tried. What I've done that works in XP is have a floppy disk ready with the core RAID drivers, enable RAID in the BIOS, configure the RAID through it's pre-boot...

The "JR" stands for "Junior", as in "small", and will be used for all of DFI's LP (aka LanParty) MicroATX motherboards. Thus, if you see a "JR" in the DFI model number, it's MicroATX.

I haven't crunched all the numbers, but at first glance I'm not sure they're that contradictory. Tweaktown tested performance at 2560x1600, 1920x1200, and 1280x1024 (3.9, 2.2, 1.3 megapixels respectively). OCforums tested performance at 1920x1200 and 1680x1050 (2.2 and 1.7 megapixels)...

I own the case as well, though I'm using the stock power supply with an Intel Atom motherboard. There are quite a few MicroATX/SFX power supplies that will fit, including the Athena Power AP-MP4ATX47FE 470W I listed above.
