Yep. Bear in mind, I would have kept the Doublesight had it not been fucked up.
I'm still thinking about holding out for the new one. But the price of the FP241VW sounds just right. I also fully suspect the FP241 monitors are better for what I'm looking for than virtually *any* TN, including...
Thanks, 10e, as always.
What do you mean by that? That seems kinda important because one of the functions of this display, for me, is to be hooked up to my HD-DVD player (for upscaling standard def DVDs).
Yeah, Jonathan, I had the Doublesight and loved it for the 2 hours it worked. When I...
So, a refurbished FP241VW for $445 in the Clearance Shop. I always wish I knew what they mean by "refurbished" - anyhow, that's a pretty damn good price for that monitor from what I gather.
The new ones are backordered at the moment with no available date listed.
I guess I'd like some...
So I just got one of these famed DS-263N panels directly from Doublesight.
The Good:
Bright, clear, and large workspace. The panel can be tilted to an acceptable range of use. I actually like the little menu "nub" and find it easy to use.
The Bad:
There's some sort of horizontal, wavy...
So, I'm out of options for overclocking this XPS 420, because the BIOS quite simply doesn't allow for it.
However, I *can* physically alter the CPU.
There's a guy who overclocked his Q6600:

So...
1. Does anybody here think this trick...
Just scored a 12,816 with everything set to default on 3DMark06.
I guess I need to overclock the CPU / GPU to see a significant increase?
Here's the breakdown:
SM2.0 Score: 4901
HDR/SM3.0 Score: 6077
CPU Score: 3731
I actually don't have a clue how to overclock a CPU.
Sorry, forgot to mention I was running 1680x1050 resolution.
I'll run it again at the standard resolution.
Anybody know how I can force the 4870 to do Vertical Synch? The tearing drives me crazy sometimes.
I just scored a mere 12,369 on my first run of 3DMark06.
With a stock, 750MHz 4870 inside a Q9300 (also running stock @ 2.5GHz)...do I just suck or is this about what I can expect?
Oh, resolution: 1680x1050
Hello, I've never run CCC on this new machine (32-bit Vista with .NET Framework installed).
When I click on CCC, the hour glass spins momentarily, but nothing shows up on my desktop or elsewhere for that matter.
Am I missing something blatantly obvious?
I feel for ya. It's a shame there's not much in the way of a technical review available for the DS-263N.
I imagine there isn't much for the Planar, either.
Yeah, for me, it was between the Doublesight D-263N and the BenQ FP241VW.
I went with the Doublesight.
If that doesn't work out, then I'll give the BenQ a shot. At this price, it's even more tempting.
I was laughing at the distance from your monitor. Like, how do you keep from getting migraines staring at a 40" display when it's like two feet in front of your face?
Yeah, the dude I talked to said they come with polarizers from LG, but you're right. If Doublesight isn't sure when they do or don't have the polarizers, that's bad.
I just ordered a refurb (actually, it was an oben box) DS-263N for $600 + $25 shipping.
With a 30 day return policy, I'm pretty excited to check it out.
Comes with DVI-D and DVI-I inputs, so I can use one with an adapter for HDMI (PS3, Blu-ray).
Wish me luck!
So, I'm running a Q9300 but not OC'd. It's inside a Dell XPS 420.
I am adding a HD 4870 to the mix.
The recommended wattage for PSU with the 4870 is 500 watts, so I have to upgrade.
PC Power&Cooling makes a "Dell-compatible" power supply (Silencer 500) that's exactly 500 watts.
I...
I realize now that it was vertical shift more than horizontal.
When I moved laterally, it was okay, but if I lifted or lowered my head just a few inches, I noticed changes. To generate a noticeable problem laterally, I had to move to a few feet off-center, but it was still far reduced...
So, I won't belabor any statistical evidence to support my opinion. After all, everybody has personal preferences, but the V2400W was very disappointing on a couple levels.
Mine had zero stuck pixels.
Out of the box, I was worried about the stability of the bezel. The touch-sensitive menu...
Thanks!
Yeah, I'm glad I found out about the PSU issue. The XPS came with a lowly 350 watt PSU. I read about the Dell compatible "Silencer" series from PC Power & Cooling from a rival forum. :p
Does anybody know whether or not I'll have trouble using a Radeon HD 4870 with a Dell XPS 420 rig? (Don't hate me for it, I didn't buy the thing.)
I bought a Dell compatible PC Power & Cooling 500 Watt power supply so I should be good to go on that front.
Now I'm just worried about space...
I have one of the very first generation 2005FPW monitors (Mfg. October 2004) and I have had zero problems with it. In fact, I generally consider it the nicest piece of computer equipment I've ever bought.
I'm learning a lot about this LCD technology from [H]ard|Forum over the last few days...
I'm not really interested in overclocking. I am buying this card as an alternative to the baffling glut of 8800 / 9800 offerings from nVidia. If it runs Crysis @ 1900x1200 with 30 or so FPS, I'll be happy.
