You'll figure this out when you get it but the red di-noc is based on white film so shows white on the edges. A red sharpie covers it well but is a pain.

Just a quick update. Excaliberpc.com packaging on these is horrible. Two drives stacked directly on top of each other wrapped in a single layer of bubble wrap with some thin foam strips above and below in a box barely bigger than the two drives.
Here's hoping they're ok.
Steve
Excaliberpc.com has a bunch of the 3TB in stock at a decent price. I ordered two yesterday, after deciding I didn't want to wait for Amazon to get them back in stock. They're out for delivery right now.
They're on amazon's dealer list but the drives are $16 cheaper each direct.

Got the OOS email for the Desktop kit at the Sacramento store this morning. Based on what the guy above said about them having several of the Laptop kit drives in stock I drove over there and sure enough was able to buy one.
Be sure to check both part numbers when you call. Numbers are in the...
Thanks. I noticed the two part numbers after I posted that. As of this morning it's actually saying both are available. Going to head over there about 8:30. Hopefully will have my pickup email by then.
Steve
Sweet, still in stock at the Sacramento Frys. Picking it up tomorrow.
Looks like I got the last one there. That's always a scary thought with Frys. Here's hoping for the best.
Thanks! Those are coolermaster Excalibur fans. Fairly loud at full voltage but still move a lot of air when turned down. Got them on sale at Performance PCs a while back.
Steve
Thanks! It took a lot of work to get it the way it is and it's not quite where I want it. I've actually made a few changes since the pictures.
Anyways, the only wires that haven't been touched are the 24pin cable. The 8pin cpu power cable I extended and the rest I made from scratch from a...
Hehe, convoluted tubing is NOT what you want. It's split down the entire length. Designed to wrap over the outside of wires. You could certainly wrap it over the outside of regular water tubing but I'm not sure that's the look you're going for.
Have fun.

Just to finish this up. I ended up taking the ram back to Frys before my 15 day window was up. Reordered from Amazon since they had the C7 varient for just $2 more. Got it today and the system boots just fine at DDR1600 and has been stable so far. I'll put it through the paces before I go...
Don't want to hijack this thread so I'll just say 4.2GHz and point you to the 930 overclock thread :)

I'm actually at a lan party right now ;) Running BF2, L4D2 and a little BF:BC2. I'm not having any trouble with the first rig in my sig at full resolution.

I put a 60mm fan running at 7v over my IOH heatsink and temps are low to mid 40C's with a 75F ambient. Out of the box mine ran high 80's then changed the TIM to Shin-Etsu and dropped to mid 70's. When I first installed the fan my tests showed temps stable at 73C without the fan then stabilized...
Does anybody have a problem with their monitor randomly dimming? I'm not quite sure it's random but occasionally it will dim then come back. Even when I'm in the middle of using the computer.
Any ideas?

Gigabyte boards don't go with anything :) Worst combination of colors ever. I'm still holding out hope the new Asus Rampage III will be under $400 but I bet I'll be disappointed.
Steve
Yeah, this is one of the weirdest PC issues I've had in the past 15 years or so :)
Thanks for the cmos battery suggestion. I have a Gigabyte P45 board here that I recently had an issue with during POST. It would reboot right before it reported memory size and specs. Resetting the cmos via...
I did a little more work on this last night. Plugged the ram into my friends i7 setup with an Asus P6T Deluxe board and it runs at ddr1600 just fine.
Even plugged a new hard drive into my PC to do a fresh install of Windows and it locks up before setup can start.
Now I'm pretty confident...
Thanks for the suggestion. I think I'm leaning towards just RMA'ing it instead of spending the 2+ hours to do three different memtest passes :) I've just never had ram exhibit problems and not show the failure in Memtest86. I keep thinking I'm missing something thus the post here and at the...
Here is the system:
MSI Pro-E X58 motherboard (latest bios)
i7 930 w/H50 cooler
TR3X6G1600C8D 6GB DDR3 kit (new ram)
CM3X2G1333C9 (total of three 4GB kits as test module pool)
I've been running this setup with 6GB worth of the CM3X... modules for about a month. RAM works fine at 1333...
FYI, the temps on my MSI Pro-E IOH are now at 40C with a 18C ambient after adding a small fan blowing over the heatsink. The night I set this up it was stable at 73C without the fan and went down to 46C with. I used an old AMD 60mm fan. Running at 7v it's basically silent.
Steve
Well I ordered one. Bit on the Amazon $40 credit on first order when applying for their card. Shipping was a little high but still made it about $73 shipped in the end. Now to see if I can find a local anodizer :)
It'll be nice having a Lian-Li case again. My last one was an older PC-60...
Any rumors or news of a version that'll come with a black anodized interior? I see some of their larger cases are starting to have that option. I don't have one yet. Waiting for a decent special price. I need a smallish full ATX case for my second computer.
Steve
Yep, 120mm.
What's wrong with the drive trays? The snap in place and are pretty solid. I know they're much better than the first gen 690 drive trays.
Steve
The LED simply presses into a hole in the underside of the top panel. It's held in with a bit of hot glue. Remove the glue, desolder the red LED, solder in the Blue and reinstall. It's a friction fit so I didn't bother regluing it.
Coolermaster part. Can be found at the CM Store but is...
Finally "finished" this just in time for this past weekends LAN party. Probably won't change until I go to a full water cooling setup. The 3M di-noc film on the H50 is there because when I had it in my previous case (Scout) the logo was upside down :)
I made the 24pin extension from...

Yes, the JMicron port is the blue one, along with the one on the back panel. The rest of the ports are controlled by the Intel chipset.
Is this typical of all X58 motherboards? Does hotswap work on the intel controlled ports on any of them or is it a board specific issue. Now that I think...
Yep, it's connected to the intel controller. I haven't yet tried all the ports but I don't see any reason why they'd be different.
I also haven't yet tried the 363 controller. The cable routing isn't as friendly for that port but I might just have to deal with it.
Thanks,
Steve
Thank you for the suggestions. I had set up the bios before installing windows and I also had already tried the matrix storage manager before my original post.
Any other ideas. I don't usually post questions like this but I'm stumped.
Thanks again,
steve
I can't seem to get hot swap working on the esata dock on the top of my 690 II advance. It worked just fine with my previous P45 chipset based setup.
It's an MSI X58 Pro-E motherboard. AHCI is enabled for all ports in the BIOS. I have tried loading the latest X58 chipset drivers as well as...
Started 2009 with an older silver Lian-li PC-60
Then swapped parts to a black Coolermaster Praetorian (PAC-T01)
Next was a Coolermaster Scout
Finally a Coolermaster 690 II Advance
My HTPC started with an Antec Minuet 250 and just recently changed to a Silverstone Grandia GD05 to better...
Got mine today and already mounted on the wall. The AG coating isn't bothering me in the slightest and I haven't yet found a dead or bright pixel.
Watched a movie and played some Borderlands with the FOV corrected. Very nice.
Very happy with it.
