This is nothing to be scared of, AMD and Intel both used to ship chips with no IHS. Mounting a HSF or water block directly to the die was common practice.
go into UEFI, Advanced, Sata, And change mode to "raid", hit f10 to save and reboot.
The Bios will run, and then the Raid bios will display, and you hit ctrl+I to configure the array.
Here is where I ended up:
Ran AIDA64 for 13 hours, simply need to use my computer before it could run for 24, fire-strike demo looped for 6+ hours
4.6ghz
1.295v vcore
4.4 cache
1.280v ring
HT enabled
PLL over-volt enabled
+ .05v offset to the I/O voltages
spread spectrum disabled
1.9 input...
I disabled HT, and set the input voltage at 1.9, set memory to 1333, and left the cache at auto, I was able to boot into windows, but it was at 1.35v core (), and was not stable at all. It made it though @ 5min of Aida64 and BSOD'd; I am going to guess that I will need at least 1.37v to run...
First, Merry Christmas!
I tested AIDA64 and even when only doing FPU with small FFT's that fit into cache it was still a full 14'C cooler.
I still can not replicate it... but it did help.
Yes it is , and that has been an issue with the "24 hour prime" test for the past 20 years. It is...
It still might be, What the combination of your overclock and prime95 changed was producing an outrageously high and artificial heat load that is proving to be difficult to replicate; the fact that it failed at 12 hours is further indication of an unintended consequence of the two. If it runs...
Pretty sure Prime95 is pretty worthless for these chips, even the the newer version.
I can run at 100% load over 8 threads with multiple applications, load testers, benchmarks, etc. and temps always hang around at 60-65'c; I fire up Prime (any version) and it jumps to 80'C +.
Not really...
Here is where I ended up:
4.5ghz across all cores
4.4ghz cache
2400mhz memory @1.65v
1.265v vcore
1.265v ring v
left everything else at default.
Run some 3d test looping most of the day (9 hours), ran prime for 6 hours and manually stopped it. Played some ARMA 3 for a few hours, had no issues.
Simply running prime95 for 24 hours proves little in terms of real world stability. If you use it as a tool to make yourself feel better, then fair enough; but it is hardly the be all end all tool for determining stability. It has been known for many many moons that the prime95 torture test is...
The application itself is very old, and at it's core, it is running the same stresses on the CPU by running prime number calculations. It was been used by overclockers as a stability test since at least the mid 90's as that is when I started using it.
There are many reasons why a 24 hour...
If you have never overclocked with some micro-drill bits, and hand drill and a soldering iron, your are a beginner.
Even the "bios" over-clocking on these wiz bang boards have a lot of pre-sets, and auto-built rules. At least the Asus ROG boards have a full memory timing suite...
Hey all..
I think there is a fundamental misunderstanding about semi-conductors in this thread. They get old, they start to "bleed" electrons, and will run hotter and hotter as they age, until eventually they start to fail. Most CPU's will be thrown out long before they fail, but most will...
Hey Hurin,
I too am fighting a 4770k right now, but I am not willing to push V-core past 1.3; It has been a long time since I bought a new cpu, and I have to admit, I don't like all this auto OC BS.
I am having trouble getting past 4.5 @ 1.28 with H100 push/pull
Perhaps I am just old school, but what is wrong with keeping what you have, buying a $20 SATAIII controller card, and your SATAIII SSD? I know add in cards are not as common as they used to be... but... for $20, you will get all the same performance increases (in terms of I/O) from a SATA III...
Wow.. not sure where you guys live, but I have had no problems with Sprint in all reality.
My 3G speeds are not amazing, but they are still faster than I got with my iphone on At&t, and the wimax "4G" is available most places I go, and it appears the Sprint LTE goes live here (Dallas) in June...
It has been awhile since I have updated my hardware; but a recent "power event" has given me no choice. I have decided to do a budget upgrade on my system (specs below), and am looking at buying three monitors to do a surround setup. Currently I have 2 9800GTX+ running in SLi, but it appears I...
Not sure how you would use Pelts to cool any modern system to be honest with you.
I messed with cooling old Celeron 500's back in the day, and even at just 110w each the amount of cooling that was required to get the hot side cool enough to sustain CPU temps under load was very hard to do...
Having personally used a demo Windows mobile 7 phone, I can officially tell you I am dumping my iphone, and moving to the new MS phone platform.
Not only is the Windows mobile 7 phone simply better than the iphone OS, but I have had enough of Apple. The iphone is YEARS behind on some of the...
I beg to differ. I have run Hyperthreading since it's release, on every form of on intel processor it has shipped on (mainly on servers), and it has never made an impact on real world performance. A few benchmarks, sure, depending on which one you run, but in real life number crunching...
Keep in mind that I am an old school overclocker and have no problem sending brand new hardware up in smoke.. and have done so many, many times.... Over volt at your own risk good sir.
I just don't see the point of these in a home computer.
If you are a serious folder, wouldn't your rather run multiple quad core based machines for the same price as a single quad?
As a gamer, you will gain little to nothing with a 6 core over a quad
I was so impressed by how easily this chip OC's; I thought I would stop my lurking and post my results:
No question the best overclocking chip since the Celeron 300a......
3004B197 | 4200 MHz | Stable | 1.27V | stock air | Yes/No/21x |
3004B197 | 4368 MHz | Stable | 1.30V | water (H50)...
My rig is now completely outdated so it is time to go balls out and buy a new motherboard, CPU, and some new vid cards.
So...
What is the best CPU/MB/Memory combo for oc'n these days?I already gathered I would have to go back to intel (first time since the P3 550!)
here is my current...
I cool my CPUs to about -53'C with no issues thus far. I have done this on several AMD CPU's, (opt150,4800+,6000+). I have cooled my system memory to 3'C, and I have only cooled my GPU's to 0'C.
hope this helps.
I have not overclocked in the BIOS since the good old Celeron 300A days, but I seam to be having trouble locating a "Soft FSB" type tool that will allow me to adjust the CPU clock speeds on my Intel C2D T7700.
Can anyone help?
I'd rather have one or two cores that run faster than 4 slower cores.
I really just want to drop a dual core under my phase and overclock the snot out of it.. so what is my best choice?
I am looking at updating my rig.
I am running a modded vaporchill LS, and currently clock my X2 4800 to 3.2ghz, and my old OPT 150 to 3.5ghz.
Has anyone hit 4.0ghz stable on some of the newer AMD's?
What does everyone recommend as far as a new build?
Well my system is getting a little aged, and it is time for an upgrade.
currently running:
X2 4800+ @ 3.2ghz (Phase)
DFI NF4 sli expert
1GB OCZ Gold @ 2-2-2-2
2x 7800gtx sli
I really want to hit 4ghz on both cores. So what is the golden CPU/MB/Memory combo these days?
I assume you guys will be running Linux?? Windows XP, and Vista only support two CPU's.. so to run a windows based 4x CPU system you would need Windows Server 03.

I have not had an intel CPU for since my celeron 500's, and have been out of the hardware game for about a year. So what is the hot Intel CPU for OC'ing???
My current setup is:
AMD X2 4800+ @ 3.2ghz (Phase)
DFI NF4 Pro
OCZ DDR5xx Gold running 2-2-2-2 @5.2v
2x nvidia 7800GTX running SLI...
ORB will not let me publish in 06 due to driver version, but it will let me publish in 05? strange.
I ran this 100% how I game. full driver defaults, no LOD, image settings set to "quality" (driver defualt) with a background apps running.
Single 7800gtx 256mb @500/1300
Opt 150 @ 3.4ghz...
