My FW900's black is a bit light already, which I've heard is something that Trinitrons drift towards with age, so a slight darkening might actually help. Hmm, I may go for this.
It would be nice to find a film with anti-static properties too, but I'm not coming up with much on that search.
Thanks! This is exactly the kind of test I was hoping to hear about. Would you recommend the 3DLens film as a replacement if the original is scratched up like mine? It looks like their P620A could be cut down to the right size and stuck on.
I'd also be curious how it compares to the original...
I appreciate the good discussion around this, and I'm curious to see that side-by-side comparison.
Here's my damage level; it's a little more obvious in person:
But it's easier to ignore when it isn't on a solid bright area:
(The fuzziness and wavy lines are just my camera being...
Thanks for the info! The scratches I have are just light lines where some of the darkened material is missing from the surface, but no tears all the way through the film. It is distracting on white backgrounds, but otherwise pretty easy to ignore.
It would be nice if there was something out...
My FW900 has the same problem. Quick warning: wiping with microfiber cloth will scratch this film!
Did you end up doing anything about it? I've seen a video of someone just removing the anti-glare film, and I'm wondering if there's a good replacement that could be applied, maybe something...
I've been busy at work, and keep forgetting to take a break and call Digital View.
I did get an email from a local Optrex rep after I downloaded their panel's spec sheet (there was a form to fill out), but I haven't heard back since I asked them about controller boards. Probably because I made...
I was looking at this again, and I wonder if maybe that ALR-1400 would work afterall?
This diagram from Digital View shows how the SP-1600 and the panel would be connected:
SP-1600 to Optrex panel (PDF)
It looks to me like those same connection points are also available on the ALR-1400...
Thank you! That is exactly the sort of newbie mistake I was afraid of making, since I have no experience with LVDS panels. :)
Digital View actually lists two models of board as being specifically compatible with that Optrex display, but they are larger and $270-$370...
Yeah, that Optrex display I'm looking at is intended for industrial use. The brightness is 500 nits, which seems a bit high but hopefully not blinding. They also make a 1000 nit "Super High Bright" version!
I get that TN picture quality and viewing angle are not the best (I use a CRT...
I appreciate the suggestion, but unfortunately it appears to be an 800x600 display with the ability to downscale a 1024x768 signal:
I'm sure 800x600 would be usable, but since I know 1024x768 panels are out there in this size, I'd much rather try to incorporate one of those.
I've been...
I'm looking for a good tiny LCD display for a Mac Classic II shell. The viewable area of the opening is about 8.6" (7.2" x 5.4"), but I would really like a native resolution of 1024x768 or better.
Basically, I want to use something like this display...
Hey internet, here you go... that is a perfect example of irony. ;)
I sort of put up with the closed nature of my iPhone, because at the time I got it, there really was no more powerful phone experience. I might look for an alternative now that other mobile operating systems have caught up...
This man speaks the truth. I never run a resident antivirus on my XP machine, only occasional scans. Just put your machine behind a physical firewall (router), spot-check any iffy downloads before you run them, and you're fine.
Of course, it has an advantage since it only gets used for...
Get a plasma.
/thread
I bought an LCD a few years ago, but if I was buying right now it would definitely be a plasma. All the good ones are 1080p now, and the burn-in I was so paranoid about turns out to be mostly a non-issue.
(I still feel I made the right choice a few years ago, since...
I don't really see what's sad about it. Most of them used Vista, did not like it, but are optimistic about upgrading to 7. The Windows world finally moves forward.
I'm unfortunately hitting a Windows 7 compatibility snag with my favorite flight sim, Falcon 4.0 Allied Force, so my primary boot...
Windows has no way of knowing your total bandwidth use. BITS isn't a complete solution unless you only have one computer on your network.
I hope by "turned off" you mean "set to notify only". You should at least know when there are security updates available! And then you can browse through...
Hey guys, I tried giving up on 2003 and going to XP 64-bit, but that may be a no-go as well. The Atheros wireless works with it, but unfortunately Apple really has no driver support for XP 64-bit, so I'm having trouble getting the multi-touch trackpad and multi-function keyboard to work (both...
I believe some of the changes are quite legitimate for SSD users concerned with limited writes. While I would never recommend running any Windows without a page file (you're asking for page faults there), it may be a good idea to move the page file and temporary directories to a standard hard...
Hmmm, so the software on TechNet requires activation? I was hoping for Volume License copies that don't.
Still, looks like a cool service. Once I'm convinced that I want to buy Windows 7, I'll probably go this route. If I could get the latest Visual Studio this way, that'd be awesome too.
I guess that makes me super human too. My desktop PC has a 19" CRT at 1600x1200, and my consoles have a 46" HDTV at 1080p that I sit about 6-7 feet from. I don't see how anyone can argue that you can't see the difference between upscaled 720p (or less) and a nice native high-resolution image...
That's a good idea, though since it's on a different partition from my Windows boot I can probably move things around without formatting. Do you happen to know if the outer part of the hard drive is the beginning or end?
Thanks for the tips; I will definitely look into a better defragmenter...
When does it BSOD? During bootup? Sometimes changing hardware will cause a BIOS reset, and when that happens it can change the power management setting (APM or ACPI). Windows doesn't like it if you have a different power management setting than the one that was set when you installed it.
As dannybgoode said, there should be no problem running higher-speed memory than what your laptop supports. It should just run it at the reduced speed. HP probably provided that because they also use it in 333MHz-capable machines, and it's often cheaper just to get a bunch of one type.
Now...
Haven't played Quake Wars, but I know it's not the only objective-oriented team-based game out there. I would say any of the Battlefield games fall into this category, but you'd be right to point out that only a small percentage of the people playing it actually care about their team...
I have Call of Duty 4 loaded on two PCs: a desktop and a laptop. The desktop runs the game wonderfully, with no noticeable slowdowns ever. The laptop (at lower settings) keeps pretty decent framerates, but will often stutter when new resources are loaded (especially sounds). The first round...
Well, regardless of whether it was your fault or not, the fact is you still had to reinstall Windows. And you will again in the future. With Windows, it's not if, but when. Trust me, when you do get to that point where you need a reinstall, you'll be a lot happier for having planned ahead...
Code that "may not work in XP"? So you don't even know?
Before you even try digging into how to fix that ME install, try copying the software over to an XP machine. Who knows, it might run without even being reinstalled. Many programs do.
I have to completely disagree here. I never...
I wish you could legitimately buy Windows without their lame online activation DRM. Even if it cost more, I would definitely buy myself a 2-copy "volume license". I like to upgrade my hardware, utilize virtual devices, and reinstall Windows whenever it gets wonky.
There are some good arguments you could make for 7, but XP's age isn't one of them. XP SP3 is still fairly recent, and the OS is just as well-supported as Vista or 7 by applications and drivers (I'd even say it's better supported).
Personally, I am dual-booting XP and 7 right now. There are...
That's why I always install applications to a different partition, and back up their registry entries. No need to reinstall, just reapply the registry data. For many applications, you don't even need to do that.
ME should never have been made. I can't believe they tried to tack on the slight UI upgrades of Windows 2000 onto that wretched Win9x kernel. Stability was terrible, as with all Windows 9x predecessors (even the much-beloved 98SE).
After they finally merged the NT kernel with a decent user...
What are the sizes of your hard drives?
Regardless, I would make a 30-40GB partition for Windows on one of them (probably the 10KRPM) and move your My Documents folder to a different partition or drive after setup. Also, don't install any applications to this drive (except system-integrated...
I can understand OP's frustration, because certainly shortcuts and settings all over the place are depending on file paths that are wrong whenever he's booted into Windows 7.
My solution, which works really well for me, is 3 partitions:
1: Windows XP (20GB, C: in XP, D: in 7)
2: Windows 7...
I'd advise against trying to upgrade an RC to an RTM in place, but you can minimize your workload by partitioning the hard drive. Give about 30GB or so to your Windows boot, and a second partition for your other stuff with the remaining space. Move the My Documents folder to the second...
I've got Windows 2003 Server SP2 Standard R2 32-bit going on my MacBook Pro (2007), and for the most part it's working beautifully. I installed the XP Bluetooth stack, and tweaked the Boot Camp MSI file with Orca to install under Windows 2003. The only thing not working is the built-in Atheros...
Ah, interesting finds.
Looks like the i-RAM is reasonably-priced ($118 + DDR1), but maxes out at 4GB. That's not really enough for both swap and temp.
The ANS-9010 seems absolutely awesome, but I'm not sure I can justify that expense ($354 + DDR2).
Thanks for the tips! Anyone know of...
I'm considering adding an SSD to my computer for swap and temp files. Since none of these files need to be retained after rebooting, I wouldn't even need the drive to be non-volatile; basically, if cheap RAM could be attached to a SATA bus, that would suit my needs just fine. :D
So, does a...
Sorry to bump a year-old thread, but did anyone ever find a solution to this?
I've got my larger drive dedicated to keeping my games and larger programs in their own unfragmented partition, but those pesky Windows Update files keep going there. (This actually became a pretty big problem when...
I too have the turning on-and-off problem, which starts up after about 1-2 hours of use. I was beginning to worry that it was the difficult-to-replace Mac-version 6800 Ultra in my G5, since I was unable to duplicate the problem on my PC's 7800 GT thus far. But seeing that your 7800 GT is also...
